The host worked to get everyone seated as quickly as he could. A server was at the table almost immediately for our drink order, and they were served in no time. There is quite a selection of breakfast and lunch items to choose from, and I settled on The Classic. I really liked the option for a small cake instead of toast, and I enjoyed that tremendously! The ham steak was thick, juicy, and flavorful, and the eggs were scrambled perfectly. The hash browns were a little bland, and I would rather have had an option for breakfast potatoes instead. But the meal was good and reasonably priced for the portions. For those who like coffee, there is a wide selection of options. The place is cozy inside with warm colors and all of the workers were extremely friendly in their interactions with customer. I felt very welcome and the table was well taken care of throughout the meal. The restaurant itself is nestled in a strip mall off the main street, so it isn't something I would know was there if I were just driving by. But now that I know it is here, I will definitely make a return trip to try additional items on the menu that caught my attention (I'm looking at you apple and blueberry bread, cinnamon rolls, and crake!)

My current favorite is the Cafe's egg plant parmesan, served Sicilian-style (which is not served warm). Great flavor, good texture, and all-in-all a very pleasant lunch dish. The menu is limited, but pre-made sandwiches, and desserts, are also available. The Cafe is in the modernist Richard Meir part of the museum and faces out over the Art Center's courtyard and reflecting pool, and the neo-Brutalist wing design by I.M. Pei. Things to know: * There is no separate entrance to the cafe. You must go into the Art Center to get there - take the "long way" there by walking through the main gallery and check out the latest exhibit. * The Art Center, like most art museums, is closed on Mondays, so.... * The Cafe operates lunch hours, Tuesday and Wednesday until 3:pm, but is open for early dinners in Thursday and Friday nights, which are also late nights for the museum (until 6:00pm). * The Art Center charges no admission. Their mushroom soup was very bland and had a weird texture. I also grabbed a cookie and it was very mushy in the middle. There was a weird bitter chunk of I think baking powder or baking soda. I chose a Turkey club planning to pick the bacon off but it was chopped really tiny and weirdly wet and mushy, spread over the bread? I can't really hold that against them it was on me for ordering it but I didn't expect bacon to look like that. The bread had a god chew but was really bland. She was truly sorry about the pizza and even said she talked to the chef about cooking it longer but he said it might burn the pizza if they did that. And it had so many toppings on it that it might not make a difference on the crust. So she wanted me to pick something else on their menu for free. I was going to decline but she insisted, so I chose the cavatelli. They made it for me and brought it out quickly. We appreciated everything Derek and the GM did to make it up to us which really wasn't necessary. They went above and beyond. I felt bad about it but they wanted our first visit there to be great. Then when Derek brought our bill to us, we saw that they comped both the pizza and the extra cavatelli. So they were only charging us for my husband's meal. AND Derek brought us a free dessert. My husband and I were flabbergasted. They did way more for us than they should have. We have never been treated so well at a restaurant before. I didn't think that restaurants and waitstaff like this existed. It seems like since Covid, when you go to restaurants, they're understaffed or the workers don't seem like they want to be there and barely acknowledge you. But here they bend over backwards to make sure you're happy. I love that and appreciate everything they did. The atmosphere is casual yet upscale. It feels cozy and welcoming, too.
