The Host and Compere 'Silky' aways makes it feel like the show is just for you, Picks the best of touring comedy, and new acts,,, occasionally runs over, so if you're on the bus,, make sure you have the taxi fare home. If you go there you know you'll get quality comedy, not for the faint hearted. And of course 7 Arts is a cracking venue with good beer. so what's not to like.

A relatively new venture in the way of artistic spaces and venues, but it is pretty damn good. It's constantly gaining momentum, and currently there are projects going a ahead for budding film makers, artists, musicians and creative types. Seven relies on funding and sponsorship, which is good news for the local business who wish to hire out rooms for conferences and business meetings, as all money generated from the room hires goes back in to funding more arts projects. Seven also has it's own bar, Bar Seven, which is a cool place to spend before a show, or just to go in and have a drink with some friends, as it's open from mid morning til midnight. Oh yes, the events, there are many to choose from, acoustic nights, plays, comedy nights, art exhibitions, workshops and being super festive there's a Valentine's night this Sunday, with a Buenos Aires, film set, dinner and dance spectacle vibe, with tickets at £20 a head. Housing about 100 in capacity, Seven offers an intimate setting which can be a welcome change from bigger venues, especially for plays and acoustic performances. And there's the added satisfaction that your money is going back into the production of more fabulous art events.

Yes, HiFi -it's one of my favourite places to bust out my best grooves. (I'm not suggesting they're good, but I'm sure they're a spectacle.) I'd not been back for some time, so when the opportunity arose this weekend, I couldn't turn it down. As I was arriving, some of my friends had left, and in some respects I can see why. It was absolutely heaving, and of course the music was incredibly loud, as standard. It's difficult, as I was certainly getting the rage whilst trying to make my way to the toilets, or the bar -it's one thing for a venue to be heaving (this is fine, and can elevate the fun), but it's entirely another when you're battered and shoved beyond belief. Perhaps it was because it was so late, and so folk were drunk, but there were rather a lot of pushy people and manners had almost entirely left the building. It costs nothing to say 'excuse me'! Anyway, rant over. That being said, once I managed to wade to the bar, things got a lot better. The chap who served me was lovely and friendly, and beer in hand, I managed to find a spot with my comrades where we could dance with abandon. Top tip - the steps by the stage seemed to be the most spacious throughout the evening! And that brings me to the music. It's always utterly fantastic - for all the funk, soul and reggae that you could want, this is the place to come. I've not danced for a solid few hours in quite a while, and can absolutely say that it was fantastic, and in spite of the crowds I'm hoping to come back again soon. Drinks wise, I didn't really check out all the options, but there's a fairly decent range to suit most tastes. Price wise it was £4 in at about 1am, perhaps more earlier on, and the drinks are standard -expect to pay about £3+ per drink. I agree with Ben, the door staff are quite the jobsworths, though this keeps out the riff raff, for which I'm grateful! (And, they are friendly, don't get me wrong.) The toilets were in a bit of a poor state, but having been in much worse, it's not all that bad. Essentially, the biggest draw is of course the fantastic DJs, live music and comedy at their other regular events, friendly staff and having a right old dance. Highly recommended for a proper night of fun. Just be patient with the crowds!

I'll echo much of what others say about this excellent little club…read more It's unassuming and small, but is efficiently run with really nice people - both punters and staff alike - filling the place. A well priced bar with one quality draught ale available - it was the superb Roosters Yankee when I went but is likely to change at any given point - and a relaxed room in which to meet friends, chat and catch up. Connected by a small corridor is the venue itself. Not too large again but comfortable and with a half decent sound system too. I've seen 2 shows here and both both were very enjoyable with a casual approach on the door and enough space to move about. One thing - if you see something heavy in here it'll be pretty intense as people are very close to the stage. I saw local Leeds heroes Hookworms here and 2 of the guitarists had to stand in the audience as the stage simply wasn't large enough! But no matter - it just felt more cosy and laid back! Very conveniently sited by the bus station it's dead easy to get home after too. As others have said this is a members club, but membership is a quid or something so fantastic value. Just make sure you are a member before turning up and expecting to get in!

An almost town hall vibe (if that makes sense to the country folk). You know the place. The bars bussed in from some friend of a farmers, the seating's all handed down and its manned by the local PTA. Basically what i'm trying to say, in the same way any village without a pub manages to put together a sort of community bar, the chambers manages to fashion a real atmosphere of here but for the grace of good people. You feel like everything is built on goodwill and i think the vibe tells. As soon as i entered on my first visit i was asked what i wanted to drink, on uming and ahhring i was suggested a beverage (tick the box for effort). I clocked the table football in the corner (tick the box for free to all fun) and then i was charged a pound for my drink and 20p for space raiders (tick the box for affordable and tick the box for space raiders - yes there's a space raiders box, every bar in Leeds knows it and that's why they all fail!). They were friendly, it was cheap, it was nice space just to be, not overcrowded, not full of people who "just love the cultural aspects that are soo..." (whatever hipsters these days say). It might feel a little out of the way but i can quickly see it being first stop before the calls if i ever have to show my face at parties with less "local savy". Sedgwick Avenue play classic, recent and new hip-hop music and also music from genres such as reggae, soul, disco and funk. Everything you would expect at a B-Boy jam to be honest! It's a pretty small place, but that's the whole appeal. The drinks can be pricey, but most of the drinks served aren't your typical Budweiser and Carlsberg so they get let off a bit on that one. This really isn't the sort of place you buy tons of drinks at anyway. If you're expecting Tiger Tiger or Oceana then you will be disapointed. Treat this as a getaway from the hustle and bustle and general madness of the main strip. It's the perfect place to chill out, drink and talk to friends. They even have an old school Space Invaders Arcade machine in there. Me and my mates went in here not long ago and even though the place was dead we enjoyed ourselves. The bar staff are also very welcoming and professional too. If you're into hip-hop as well they seem to have some big name UK and US hip-hop artists perform there on a daily basis too. Reccomended. The type of experience you have really depends what event is on in there. The cocktails really are nice and worth the money by the way!

A really friendly night with cheap drinks and close enough to wander into town afterwards, this is a must-have for all those who love the music or just want to try something a bit different. The Brudenell is a small, intimate venue that has played host to some of the city, county and country's greatest bands. It was where Leeds favourites The Cribs chose to host Cribsmas, a special three-gig event where they played each of their albums in full with b-sides forming the encore. The support acts - Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand and Kate Nash - sum up the attraction and character that the Headingley venue boasts. A number of bands - including the Kaisers - have lent their support to the Brudenell, which very nearly closed a few years ago. Thankfully it didn't and it remains one of the most charismatic concert halls that Leeds has to offer, hosting breaking acts including the likes of Girls (go listen) and Johnny Flynn (same again) in the next couple of months. What's more, despite being sold out, it wasn't over-crowded, the bar staff were efficient and prices were reasonable. Plus there is another bar so you can get away from the loud music if you want to. There's also a cab firm close by so it's not too hard to get home. Highly recommended! Updated Just to add a few further words of praise. This venue consistently stands out as the best I know of in the UK. As other reviewers have said all the people who work here are really friendly and are a lot of fun. I've never seen any trouble inside and it made me realise that I've never seen a bouncer in there either although I'm sure they know how to cope if things do get heated. At the end of the headline band's set there is no hassle to leave like so many paces (O2 Academy, Cockpit). If you fancy another drink they are relaxed and that's cool. What a refreshing attitude. I've seen so many bands here and it's easily my favourite venue anywhere - so many great memories! The thing that says it all is that if I am hesitant about seeing a band but then discover they are playing at the Brudenell my mind is immediately made up and I go. Wish it was within walking distance of my house!

It's a pub, but it's also a museum of sorts for you guessed it, The Stone Roses (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE), Oasis, Joy Division, and the like. If I could win the lottery, which I have never played, I would move to York and be within walking distance of The Stone Roses Bar. The staff are superb. Exceptional humans. The bar is nothing short of perfection. The drinks are well-made, tasty, and affordable. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. Always. Looking forward to my next visit.
