Not to be missed…read more.. During a visit to Poole, we were lucky to pass upon R's Kitchen by chance after dining somewhere nearby. We returned for breakfast the next morning & our experience was extremely pleasant having had a delicious, unhurried breakfast from a varied breakfast menu. As my breakfast date said, "R's kitchen really gets it" - with using & supporting local suppliers for their fresh ingredients of which their dinner menus are based upon; having the philosophy of cooking by season; individually wrapped chocolates on all the tables, plenty of fair trade filter coffee refills, friendly & warm service & modest prices. The waitress mentioned that R's Kitchen is merely a few months old & we hope it does extremely well succeeding with locals as well as tourists alike. In addition to breakfast, they have lunch & dinner menus & offer homemade cakes & drinks during the day. We were sorry we didn't find it sooner to experience their dinner menu & will be back one day despite the 2+ hour drive from London!

Well, it was a good thing we did, since we didn't get to go back for afternoon tea... Just as the name suggests, it is located right by the canal. It was very picturesque, peaceful and relaxing. They also have seating upstairs, and had histories on the canal, with photos posted all around the wall. Their cakes looked amazing, but I decided not to order any dessert on this day. Yes I know, a big mistake! Our friend ordered Heavenly Hot Chocolate, and it looked so pretty! We went with Teashop House Blend Tea, and Earl Grey. The young boy who brought the teas (I hear this is a family-run business) was trying to very careful not to mix them up. But the funny thing was, he totally mixed the tea up! LOL. We didn't realize until half way through... I thought the House Blend tea tasted so much like Earl Grey. For lunch, we had Ham, Cheese & Chutney Sandwich and Eggs Benedict. They were both tasty, nice portion, and filling. Our friend went with something healthier, and ordered one of their vegan sandwiches. It is nice to have that option if you want or need vegan dish. We had a nice quick lunch here. It was adorable and cozy. The food was good, not amazing, but good. I think the sweets might be better than the actual food...I will never know, unless I go back! Lesson learned: don't never expect your plan to go just the way you planned them...and have your dessert first!

It's well-sited in Westbourne, and it has a public car park at the back which is free after 6pm, and is on the main bus route. The main problem with the restaurant however, is that it is too popular for the space - so make sure you book in advance. They turned several people away whilst I was there. The decor inside is slightly bizarre, with Salvador Dali-style murals on the walls, but this does not detract from the atmosphere. If anything, it prevents the place from being too posh and stuffy. Where Coffee Club excels is in its food. The menu, for a start, is a thing of wonder. It's impossible not to find anything you like, because it's so varied. Seafood, Chinese & Thai stir fries, pasta, pizza, burgers. Even fish & chips, jacket potatoes or omelettes at lunchtime. While it's easy to assume that it ends up in the category of "Jack of all trades, master of none", this is simply not the case. We all ordered different things and were impressed by how great it was. The starter was a Mediterranean-style mezze, with what must have been homemade hummus, greek yoghurt, olives, halloumi and pitta. For a main course, I had a Thai chicken pasta, which was rather a strange-sounding combination but worked brilliantly. Cooked to perfection, and with just the right amount of spice. I skipped straight to a cup of tea after that, but my boyfriend had a rather tasty looking fudge brownie. While the prices are a little more than you would pay for the average meal, the portions are absolutely huge, so you won't be going hungry. Dinner for 6 plus wine and drinks cost £135. Coffee club is open all day, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. It also, as you might expect from the name, does a good selection of coffees. Great for sitting outside on a summers day!
