Chicken Delight
Jenny Z.

I've driven by the Bexley Cafe Istanbul so many times and thought I NEED to go sit on that patio. Last night we made it happen. The patio is picturesque and also dog friendly! I'm not sure if it was temp controlled or something but it was very comfortable despite the hot weather. Great wine prices (~$30 bottles) and a large menu with something for everyone. The complimentary bread was some of the best... warm and soft and comes with a flavorful dipping oil. Food prices are on the higher end for what you get (i.e. $19 for my chicken salad) but the quality was good. Service was a bit clunky... I think they were short staffed.

The food here is really absolutely delish, and the patio is awesome. It provides a large shaded awning space for cover in warm weather and there are tons of tables, so you can always get one. I've had the salads, shrimp dishes, some kebab dishes, and the awesome bread, plus the hummus plate and it's really all super tasty every time. All the ingredients are fresh, and the flavors are there. Some of it seems slightly expensive at times, but usually worth it. The traditional dessert cake we ordered had the best honey sauce and crunch! Service can be hit or miss. Sometimes I've had great service, but another time I was left waiting at my table for so long and told to wait when I inquired that after about 25 minutes of no real attention to my table, I ended up leaving. Still, it definitely is delicious so I'll probably be back.

Okra Stew -to go
Jessica A.

It was my first time trying this place & I wasn't impressed. The okra stew lacked flavor. Very bland. It definitely didn't "taste" like it was made from scratch. Every piece of okra was tiny. Didn't enjoy the salad either. Maybe I'll dine in & order something else another time. This place has always caught my eye. I'm not going to let one meal cancel them out for me.

Nice atmosphere and lovely service but the food tasted like it came from a frozen TV dinner and was extremely expensive.

The food was terrible and the manager was rude and mad when I did not eat the dish. She insisted I get another dish. I will not come back

It's a beautiful restaurant that sits along the river and has some beautiful views - especially on a gorgeous spring/summer evening! Their food is top notch as well! I've dined in several times in the past, but decided to get takeaway and take it to the pavilion by the pedestrian bridge to people watch and have a nice after dinner walk. Food to go was just as good as dining in - at least for the Chicken Kebab. Made with white meat chicken, you get 5-6 large pieces with rice and veggies. I was excited to learn they had rice pudding to go as well because theirs is quite good! I ordered over the phone, had about a 25 min wait on a busy evening. All were friendly and ensuring I was being helped.

Our server was attentive and patient with us as we were catching up on our holiday stories. We both had the chicken wrap, which was really tasty. I opted out of fries with my meal and got the rice. It was a good choice. The bread and tomato oil were really good. I was trying not to have bread before my meal but couldn't resist. They have a full bar which we didn't have a drink and they have which appeared to be three large dining areas.

They have a small shop tucked in a plaza, and their display of desserts and Turkish delight was impressive! The honey cake was my favorite, although the layer of honey fell off on our journey home It was slightly sweet with a layers of cake, cream, and grainy powder that was really good. The hazelnut baklava was tasty as well, and it was covered with a sweet cream which made it wetter than Greek baklava. Since they specialize in Turkish desserts and drinks, we also tried the Turkish coffee. It's served hot and was brewed very quickly. Since Turkish coffee is prepared without filtering, we were surprised by the layer of grounds on the bottom, but it's part of the taste and uniqueness of the coffee. It is on the stronger side so it paired well with the sweet dessert. I would like to try the coffee with some cream or milk next time. There is very limited places to sit since the shop is small, but it was empty when we were there so the service was quick.

Admittedly I have had this in my drafts for a long time because I was here when they were brand new. However, the cafe is quaint and casual. The desserts are delicious. The service is impeccable. There were a lot of bodies waiting in the small area near the host desk and it was a little chaotic. Our server kept trying to bring us the wrong bottle of wine (we ordered a bottle of French bubbly and she kept coming back with a Riesling) so I am not sure if it was a disconnect or what. Eventually we received the correct bottle after taking the toast tab and pointing to the appropriate one on the POS. Our group enjoyed some small plates; the ceviche and the beet salad and hummus were all lovely. However, I ordered the kind of already overpriced lobster scramble. The portion was CRAZY. What I received was a 1.5" piece of lobster meat on top of what seemed to be less than one eggs' worth of pre blended egg. There was still liquid egg that hadn't been cooked in the pan and it was accompanied by three wedges of a Roma tomato with a handful of dressed arugula. For $29. I would hope at that price point, I would at least get 2 eggs worth. WILD. All in all, enjoyable experience but Cameron Mitchell should probably revise some of the portion sizes/menu items. And please, please, nobody order the lobster scramble and experience the same fate that I did.
