From what I could see on the plates of others, the food looked great. Once seated, I scanned the menu and was pleased to find both Filipino and Western food. Everything was off to a great start until I noticed a cockroach crawling on the wall as I was eating my dinner. The site of this was a little disturbing, but I just told myself "this is the Philippines, a tropical climate...lots of bugs. So I continued to eat my meal and then I happened to look down at my plate and seen a second roach. However, this time, the cockroach was already dead and had been for a while. My stomach turned and I almost vomited. I immediately pushed my plate away in disgust. My fiancé and her family asked what was wrong and then I showed them. This too made everyone sick. My fiancé then asked to speak to a manager. While waiting for someone to come, a third roach passed by, crawling on the wall. Instead of getting a manager, a different wait staff member came by and began to inquire as to what was wrong. I as a foreigner just kept my mouth shut because I knew that it would be a losing battle to attempt to argue my case. After explaining the entire situation to the server, my fiancé wasn't given any apology. No embarrassment on the staff of this restaurant. It was as if we were made to feel as if we had done something wrong. The server kept stating that if we didn't pay that they (restaurant employees) would be responsible for the bill, which in my opinion has NOTHING to do with me or the party I was with. I know that the standards are a lot different in the Philippines than where I'm from, but I really feel like this place needs to be inspected. This is a matter of public safety. Anyway, I would encourage everyone to avoid this establishment. Maybe if there are no customers then attitudes will change (Not just at this restaurant, but at all business that don't or refuse to maintain high standards). After everything was said and done, we (my party) got up and walked out without paying. Very disappointing experience to say the least.

Halo Halo is a traditional Filipino snack/dessert we grew up with cooking us down from the heat of our motherland, the Philippine Islands. It's the Filipino version of America's ice cream treat and a more sophisticated hawaiian shaved ice concocted with evaporated or condensed milk, sweetened beans, leche flan, crunchy flattened dried rice (pinipig) to give it that crunch and Filipino flavored ice cream. Ben's came highly recommended by my dad and his girlfriend who was taken here by my dad's friend escaping a funeral in the hottest part of the summer. This place lived up to the hype! It is air conditioned, very clean and inviting. They have different types of halo halo to choose from varying from Ben's original traditional famous halo halo to spicy with their Spicy Winter Halo Halo, corn (mais Con Yelo), Macapuno (Sweet Coconut Strands) and even a unique take on sweet and salty with their salted egg version of Salty Summer. For an average of about $2 each, these icy treats are a must find here in the town of Silang. Ben's is located in the heart of Silang Town Proper about a block down the main big Catholic church of Candelaria. Management has a sign up protecting their employees from customer abuse which made me very good inside for the level of care the owners exercise in protecting and caring for their employees. My sister ordered their cucumber water which we found to be extremely sweet. We self served ourselves with water from their self serve water station and poured half of the cucumber water in a glass and poured regular water in it to dilute the sweetness to taste. It was very good once we added more water. The mango juice I ordered came from a can and the brand they have on hand is quite delicious! I thoroughly enjoyed my Spicy Winter Halo Halo. The heat from the hot Thai chili peppers compliments the sweetness of the halo halo which is literally translated as "mix mix". There are other halo halo joints around Silang but at first taste, this became an instant favorite. The ice is very fine, not crunchy and it reminded me of Japanese Kakigori which is crushed fine ice. I highly recommend stopping by and fulfilling your halo halo urge here!

It was nearly a year after its opening when I finally got to try this restaurant. The name sounds…read moreJapanese but it isn't... I think the words were selected because one sounds like "yummy" or something like that. My cousin told me she and her friends like this place (they would--they're tweens). She ordered one of those flower pots. It's like a pot with a cupcake in it (the flower is fake, but I think it costs Php 80.00 extra). The place looks really cute and girly (read: not my kind of place) and the chairs are rather tiny. My knees would bump on the little table too. Not for very tall people. So I think we ordered the tiny burgers and the fries which are nothing to write home about... they're just...okay. The ingredients aren't anything special, but very interesting concept with the pizza fries. I'm going to try making that one day, with better cheese (the secret to making anything awesome is cheese, I tell you). Now, the thing on the menu you have to order are their drinks. They have cute names like "Once Upon a Nutella," "The Three Maltesers," etc. I had the one with the tiny Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, so it was salty and sweet at the same time. Anyone would go into sugar shock with the sweetness, so I think I requested just 3/5 sugar, but they'd sprinkle this colorful sugar on top of your drink, which looks very cool on instagram. We decided to order a slice of red velvet cheesecake (I think) and a slice (or square) of blueberry cheesecake (as takeaway for my mum) and they were tiny... so a little disappointing. The red velvet wasn't that great; the cheesecake wasn't cream cheese-y. It was quite bland and not rich at all. It tasted like paste, actually. I think my mom didn't really love her dessert either. I've definitely had better cheesecake. So, I'd probably give 4 stars for my drink, because-- duh, presentation and instagram-worthiness. But overall, for the concept with the movie house thing (there was a group of kids watching a film when we ate there and they looked like they had a lot of fun), the cozy (albeit cramped) space, and the decor and for making me feel like giant Alice in Wonderland-- all good things, but then, the not so special food, the cakes -- I'd have to say three stars. I might go back for coffee, but not for the food. * EDIT: Oh, and they sometimes offer Buy 1 Take 1 deals for their drinks on their anniversary, around May if I'm not mistaken, so that's cool.

Crepes and Cream may be ubiquitous in the metro's malls, but that doesn't mean their products are automatically inferior. What I can appreciate is that they offer a variety of flavors, from the savory to the sweet; their stalls and are clean and uncluttered; and they make the crepes fresh and fast. (It's quite addicting to watch their staff turn the batter into perfectly thin crepes that, no sweat! And I've always marveled at how their crepes don't tear or break down at all despite being filled and folded in a rush.) I recently triend their Kani Crepe while my sister had the Taco Crepe for lunch. Though the filling is not as abundant as I would have wanted, the simple but yummy flavor of the crepe made up for it. They were quite filling, too, lasting us till dinner while we strolled around the mall.

Before I tried this place, all the crepes I ever had were of the desert variety. That said, the stuff on their menu isn't that expensive. The quality of the crepe is great at least when compared to most of the places I've been to. Give it a try, once again, since you'll do little wrong in spending your money here.
