Located a block away from my hotel this place has a coffee bar and cafe downstairs and a restaurant upstairs. The theme is bullfighters, they even have a few bull heads mounted on the walls. There's also outside patio seating on the second floor but only enough room for 2 tops.
I went up the stairs and got breakfast. I got the chilaquiles Rojas (red salsa) o arrechera (with beef) very reasonable at 167 pesos. The chips were freshly made and the meat was very tender. At first I didn't think it was too spicy but about half way thru the heat built up and I was sweating! It's a lingering type of heat that adds up. At first i thought it should be saltier but the flavor was built with spices not salt if that makes sense to you. I really enjoyed it.
My friend got the same but with salsa verde he said it was too acidic and thought mine was better.
I really liked this place, it's not touristy as I was the only non native there. So it's a locals spot. The cafe downstairs seems to have different types of coffee beans for sale. I did have a regular drip coffee with my breakfast which was smooth and delicious. Service was quick and efficient and I was able to pay with card.
If you want to get away from the touristy restaurants in Mexico City give this place a shot. read more
