    More Polish Pottery

    More Polish Pottery

New to the Crown Point area in the last year I think and easily found on the main square right next…read moreto Tavern on Main, I am so excited to be here at More Polish Pottery. A polish pottery collector on a mini scale having grown up with a mother that is a life long die hard collector (she grew up in NY where she went to a lot of bridal showers for girls she grew up with and they were all Polish and they received polish pottery as gifts), I was anxious and interested to pop into an actual store. I have only really Inherited from my mom or purchased online. Out west where I call home, nobody has heard of polish pottery let along would I be able to find a place that sells it....I mean "real deal" polish pottery, not some knock off from Pier One or something that simply looks like it. Lucy who greets us upon entering past the super cute Easter display in the window, appears to be the only one working today. She is young, charming, super sweet, knowledgeable and helpful. She quickly asks us and anyone who enters if they are familiar with Polish Pottery. And although I very much am, it was interesting to hear her share he passion for the product with newbies, encouraging the to explore. As I am telling my girlfriend who is with me that is uninitiated to polish pottery, you can throw it in the dishwasher, you can toss it in the frig or freezer, it is safe in the microwave or oven, chip and scratch resistant.....it is hearty stuff designed to last. It comes in an endless variety of patterns and colors and has functional pieces (plates, platters, cups, bakeware, casserole dish) and decorative pieces (holiday pieces, ring dishes, tiny bowls). And every piece is indeed handmade in Poland. There are different manufacturers, but it all comes from Poland. I am kind of seeking a certain bowl size to match some that I have at home, but am out of luck. They do not have the style I am seeking. Although Lucy is very quick to hand me a card with their email address, and if I send a picture of the bottom of the bowls I do have, they will check to see what they can find and maybe available elsewhere. This place has loads of stuff....dishes, cups, plates, cookware, decorative items, platters, trays....this stuff would be the perfect little gift for a wedding shower, girlfriend gift, "you deserve a gift today" treat. I walk out this day with two mugs and my girlfriend walks out with a ring dish. She has decided polish pottery is going to be her thing, to give as gifts to friends and family. It is unique and charming and did I mention....you can put it in the oven. Small pieces are probably $15-$20 and large pieces can be $75+ (the rarer the pattern and larger the pieces, the higher the price). But you will have it forever and like my own mother, you can pass it down to others. I am a fan and loved being in More Polish Pottery. I will return the next time I find myself in the area to visit with Lucy again, she was most helpful.

This is my third time trying the wine tasting. But my first time this year…read more We went here right after work at around 4:45 PM. It wasn't crowded there was couples there and a few single people. I walked in first and I legit waited for five minutes, no greeting, no service. Then the server Matthew came and asked me for my ID. I gave it to him and I let him know my friend was joining me and if he could bring out an extra menu for her. He did so about five minutes later. I mention all this because the service was not good from the start from the waiter Matthew. Once my friend came in, I noticed that the people around us everybody had two glasses and both menus so it appeared that everybody was trying a wine from each menu. Because usually they'll just pour all of the same kind of wine from both menus into one glass. But since seeing everyone around us doing it a different way, I requested we do the same. The waiter Matthew did not say anything about a glass pour limit or how having two glasses works. NOTHING! He didn't mention anything so we tried about four wines. Mind you we are chatting about work in a peaceful manner. We saw a server we were familiar with greeted him, and he poured us some wine. After that Matthew abruptly brought us our checks when we did not ask to receive them and he said we've tried eight wines already. I mentioned the fact that the couples around us have been there since before we got there and we got their last. There were no new groups of people coming in either so I thought that was strange. Matthew wasn't budging. We asked if we could try one more and he let us, but I did not appreciate him trying to cut our wine tasting short. The last time we went we had xavier last year in February and our wine tasting was great. We actually got to learn a lot of new things about the wine. The service from him was really good. He was the reason why me and my friend wanted to go back to the tasting. There was no limit on how many wines we could try. We even purchased wine bottles as a result from that tasting. Apparently the server Matt got mad at Xavier and argued with him in the back about it. But Matt needs to realize he's a rude server and needs to take notes from Xavier. All in all winetasting should be fun. Chill and relaxing, not rude. The ambience that was created wasn't safe and I couldn't enjoy my experience. Request for your favorite server to serve you because that's actually important.

Both had great flavors! I had a Caesar salad and my friend had jambalaya. Both were DELICIOUS! Destiny, our server was top notch! Great service! Looking forward to visiting and getting a wine membership!
