IF I COULD GIVE 0 STARS I WOULD! I paid $26.10 for a chile relleno and a large Hibiscus (Jamaica) drink. I received this packaged and trusted it was well packed. I am unable to open and eat this because it is soaked in liquid. I haven't manipulated or moved this bag aside from carrying it by the handle and laying it flat on the floor of my cab. I called to explain this to the staff who offered no recourse except that it is not their responsibility, despite the fact that clearly, you do not know proper packaging or offer the items contain what you sell. Their seasoning is giving me a headache but I had no idea it was because it was leaked all over the bag. Shame on you and your cheap packaging, and poor customer service. Never again. read more

The food here is insanely good! Coming from the south I haven't been able to find good, authentic Mexican food, but that's all changed now. The #19 specialty torta was soo good! The ham was my favorite part, so I'll definitely try more sandwiches soon. The staff was so friendly and helpful! We weren't sure what they had to offer since we were just walking by and decided to stop inside, and they were patient with us and made sure all the ingredients were things we'd like. Overall: average taco place around this area! Doubled up tacos, prices are on par with other places, nothing extravagant but not bad! Inside: some seating! Maybe 18 people can sit inside fully! Theres an atm, you can view all the bakery items, breads cakes and flans. Food: the tacos are doubled up so you know they doing it right! Flavors could be more (salt, cilantro, lime etc), i dont know the difference between the bigger and smaller tacos but I just ordered the bigger ones and they seem like a regular size taco to me! Visited this location after a haircut. The restaurant was clean, nicely decorated, and had seating for at least 20 people. There was a wide selection of food options and drinks. I ordered a large bistec taco and one flan. The taco was absolutely delicious. it came with two sauces one was a chipotle and one was a tomatillo green sauce. The flan tasted rubbery and could have used more caramel topping as I felt it was very dry. If I return to this restaurant, I would not re-order the flan. read more

Authentic and delicious for a very good price ! A hidden gem that looked like a deli and convenience store from the outside but an actual authentic cafe from the inside. Ordered two tacos large size for the value - chorizo and spicy pork. Couldn't help myself but to get a churro since it was calling for me on top of the counter. All were delicious. Horchata was sweet and refreshing. In my opinion, ho brah serves more of a Cali-style trendy taco (think blackened fish) while this place is the true New Yorker Mexican food experience with tortas, chilaquiles, and the best proteins (pig ear, beef tongue, etc). I was craving some menudo and didn't know where to get it on SI. Cafe con pan was one of the top hits and so I dragged a friend to come along and explore a different place. I'm glad I went! Big healing bowl of menudo - that I neglected to take a picture of bc I was really excited about eating it. We did order a side of guacamole ranchero and chips and he ordered vegetarian burrito. Café Con Pan is my favorite restaurant. This may sound like a hyperbolic statement, considering Café Con Pan had no table service and currently has a bathroom that is out of order, coupled with the fact that I live in New York one of the food capitals of the world, but I assure you it is not. For avoidance of doubt, when I say "favorite" I mean their tacos are the last thing I am eating if it is my last meal on earth. Let me take you through my typical experience at the authentic establishment. (I'm salivating as I write this.) I either order ahead or order when I get there. While I have ordered other items on the menu (and they were excellent), I stick to the small tacos. Trust me when I say go with small. The tortilla to content ratio is perfect. The amazing thing is they let you order individual tacos. Other Mexican/taco places in the area make you order three of one kind...boring. The tacos themselves are heavenly. The double corn tortillas are the perfect vessel. My personal preference on meat is to go exotic - Lengua or Tripas. I know that's not everyone's jam so if you are going standara, the Carnias and Pastor and also excellent. Credit has to be given to the chefs in the back. Every aspect of the preparation is nailed perfectly, from the size of the cubed meats to the perfect sear on each bit. The raw onion/cilantro mix toping can only be described in one way...flavor crystals. The guacamole sauce is a recent addition - I can go with or without it as I am a simple man, but I'm not hating either way. Now let's talk about the house made salsas. Those magical salsas! Only two to choose from here: the roja and the verde. Get both. Choosing between the two is like choosing your favorite child...it's unfair. I typically choose one of the many bottled or homemade Mexican drinks available and take the food to my car, which it typically parked across the street. The next few minutes can only be described as rapturous. The plastic top of the food container is lifted and a waft of heavily meat aroma engulfs the inside of my vehicle. The next few steps are done in concert as my heart races. I squeeze the limes onto each taco. I apply the salsas as needed. As I devour the tacos with each passing bite, the thought of reality perfectly meeting expectations runs through my head. In the end...total satisfaction. In closing, all I can do is thank the owners, chefs and counter ladies working to keep this establishment open and at the peak of consistent performance. They're pricer than the tacos, but it's definitely worth it. They open late too and have some seating as well. In Staten Island, it basically is the suburbs - it's pretty hard to find casual restaurants open past 9pm (sans fast food). That is how I had grown to love this place. I've always gone for the tacos, burritos, tortas, & tostadas - they offer great protein selections for each one, and food is always hot and plentiful. When you try to fold up a taco for a bite, the opposite ends of the tortilla don't touch - that's how you know it's a stuffed taco. I have never had a problem with my selection of proteins (typical: lengua, bistec, al pastor, carnitas, chorizo), and the salsa roja and salsa verde that accompanies the dishes are pretty good as well. Ordering in person or on the phone was always pretty easy, and food never took longer than anticipated. Cafe con pan was always a safe bet if I were coming home late from work, or when everything else was closed. Although I'm not in the area no longer, I won't hesitate to pick up some grub here again in the future. read more

Huge portions for the price, Cafe Con Pon features an extensive menu that offers both authentic Mexican cuisine and Mexican/American as well as Mexican grocery. They put a ton of meat into their burritos, and I don't think I will ever go to a Chipotle ever again after coming to this place. Their tostadas are loaded with cheese and avocado, and their shrimp fajitas came with like 8 pieces of jumbo shrimp. However, most of their other items such as their chalupas and tacos were made with tiny baby shrimp, which was a bit disappointing. But their carne asada and chicken is very good. I find it interesting that most of the reviews are for the tacos, tostadas, etc. I go for the bakery items. Everything is freshly baked. In Spanish we call the baked items "pan dulce" or sweet bread. The pan dulce is not heavily sweet. They have just the right touch of sweetness. Everything is moist and have great flavors. When I compare their pan dulce with other places, there is no comparison. Other shops sell dry and almost tasteless pan dulce. Café con Pan is the place to go for the baked goods. read more

UPDATE: They FINALLY listened to my delivery instructions! It was the owner who delivered my food tonight and he made sure to come to the right entrance, I recognize him because he used to deliver to my old house before I moved here, he's always been very nice in person and over the phone. Tonight I ordered a tostada de pollo and 4 tacos de carne asada, carnitas, chorizo and al pastor. The tostada was so good I didn't even bother taking a picture of it, one thing I'll say is I wish they had tostadas or tacos de tinga on the menu. If they did I'd be ordering every day, I hope they add it to the menu in the future. All of the tacos were good, steak was a little hard but still edible. I ordered delivery on Seamless and it was delivered quickly! But I'm not in love with the food. I ordered chicken enchiladas verdes and a carnitas quesadilla. My food was pretty cold and I wanted to reheat but they put iceberg lettuce under the cheese on my enchiladas. No one likes hot iceberg lettuce :( The chicken inside the enchiladas was sadly dry and the tortillas were dry too. Carnitas were better but still not great. On the plus side, my food was packed neatly and it included salsa (verde and roja), silverware and napkins. Neither salsa was very flavorful however. This place is a small restaurant and bakery. I have only tried the steak tacos which are my favorite and delicious. Churros are also really good and so is the horchata. Staff is friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend if you are in the mood for authentic tacos. read more

I am a vampire due to my work schedule being the graveyard shift so I am totally against any sunlight and even seeing more then 1 person outside, lol. But this place saves me since its open til midnight so I can come here before my shift and get me a nice sandwich, taco or just a good pastry and nice strong spanish coffee!! COFFEE its my savior. LOL This place is pretty clean, you can sit down and eat, order to go or delivery. Great location right across from the SI train and buses and parking is not too bad neither but then again were talking about hours past rush hour and not normal for a regular 9-5! Its so affordable too, they take cash or credit and ATM located near. You can get yourself a good cup of coffee and sweet pastry for less then $3! Cant beat that at all and that coffee is super hot so beware to not burn yourself and it will WAKE YOU UP! READY TO GO! Tacos are delish and fresh and fill you up and there sandwiches are filling also. Just try everything cause its good food for inexpensive prices so can't go wrong without hurting your pocket. read more

We order from here at least biweekly (whether in person or doordash). We love the carne tostadas and the carnitas burrito is delish! The pollo flautas used to be a hit or miss when we went every now and then, but the passed few times have been really great! I also love their chicken enchiladas with green sauce. The chicken in the flautas/enchiladas can be a hit or miss too if the chicken seems a little dry, but it still gets eaten/not a complete deal breaker, but when the chicken is on point... yum! I wish though they offered sides of rice and beans and not just with the entree. No matter it won't stop us from ordering. We're happy with Doordash service too because sometimes when we wait for the food at the restaurant itself, the heat from the refrigerator cases where they store the desserts is super hot and makes it uncomfortable & they don't always have AC on / door open if you're thinking about sitting down to eat. read more

I love this place. This is an authentic Mexican restaurant but the menu is in both English and Spanish which is great. The food is not corporate and processed it's very fresh. The chicken and cheese quesadilla is amazing and fresh and is not soaked in oil. The owner is friendly and personable. The staff is kind. The smoothies are fresh and you can order a very large one with whip cream. It's in a safe, good neighborhood. There's a big selection of food. There were 2 of us so we shared an assortment of tastes. -Peppers n cheese Tamale $2, the corn was moist and flavorful, this was a bargain for the size. -1 small Chorizo taco w/onion, Cilantro and limes. $2 outstanding crispy fatty sausage -1 small spicy pork/pineapple, good but not as good as Chorizo $2 -chicken verde Enchilada w/rice n beans. $9, this is a large portion 4 enchiladas. Chicken was moist and sauce was yum. The sauce caddy had a red spicy sauce, green mild sauce, limes. Red was good, green was meh, limes great! I will certainly be back. I had previously stopped at this spot to get coffee once, never really considered their food until now, have no regrets. I ordered some steak and tongue tacos, I'm usually a bit picky about where to get tacos from because everyone has their own style and I'm not a fan of adding sour cream, cheese or anything I would consider "unnatural" to a taco sort of like pineapple and ham to pizza. I ordered a few steak and tongue tacos by delivery, everything was fast and accurate, but the tacos were really good, just what I expect a REAL taco to be, I ate 3, wish I had 3 more but I'll do that next time, the tacos come in a small tortillas, about 2 or 3 of then for one taco, steak was good, the tongue tacos were a bit soft for my taste but still delicious, oh and I ordered a cup of their coffee to have after my tacos, their coffee is nice and strong but not too strong where it's bad. I would definitely ordered or stop by this place again, I have not had any of their other plates but I would have to see what the other items on their menu later on, but for now, tacos here are good. read more

Sooo dry and just plain, since when does this plate have ham or any type of meat? I was unable to eat this because I don't eat meat. There was no onions no salsa...NOTHING. I live very close by to Cafe Con Pan and am on New Dorp Lane very often but never thought to stop by because from the outside, it just looks like a Mexican deli. When you walk in, they only have their breakfast menu and beverages posted so it's safe to assume they don't really serve any other food. I only found out that they serve food because a friend had recommended it to me. I've had their tongue, chorizo, steak and eat tacos. My favorite was the chorizo. I wasn't too crazy about the other three. Overall, the food is good but the service isn't too great. read more
