a table set for two

While visiting NY from SC my daughter recommended this place. Apparently she and her now husband used to go here often. It had been a while since they came however. The food was disgusting. The chicken was rubbery and flavorless. The service was even worse. The owner waited on us that day. The place was empty. He was rude. My mother in law didn't like her food so she sent it back. He brought something else. She ate it even though she didn't like it. Everyone in the group disliked the food. My daughter kept saying she didn't understand why he was being so rude. He is usually so nice. Maybe he just didn't like out of towners. Who knows. The overall vibe of the place was nice and I love the linen on the tables. The music was 80's music. I commented that I liked the music to the owner and he said oh you like it?? I am gonna change it. Not sure if he was joking but he looked serious. The music did go to a different kind after he said that. When we go back to Staten Island we will not be visiting this place again. The chips and salsa were not at all what we are used to.. and you have to pay for it. Here in the South.. the chips and Salsa are free to paying customers.

I've come here many times and the staff is always very friendly, music is always great, and food is very good! I usually get the steak with onions and a side of rice and beans which is delicious. This time I got the pork and pineapple tacos which I wasn't crazy about. However, the rice and beans were very good as usual. Also, the chips with guacamole is a must have, it's so delicious and creamy! My partner got a mango margarita which came in a super cute skull glass, he said it was very good and strong! I will definitely be back to try some other options!

The food here is 5/5 delicious. I've always had amazing food here. I highly recommend ghe fried calamari appetizer- it comes with the most creamy green crema sauce to dip. I also love the steak and onions dinner and the steak tostadas. Sangria is a great drink choice. My only complaint and only reason why I give it a 4/5 total is because I've had bad service experiences such as slow serving experiences. BEAUTIFUL restaurant great ambiance

Guacamole Chunk is definitely recommended. Salted beef was done right. It was a quiet Saturday noon so all food was served quickly. There's parking in the back and a park&ride near

Frozen margaritas (from left to right: mango & watermelon)

The "bad decisions make better stories" sign truly says it all! If you're looking for a brand new & unexpected pipeline to explore this summer, we highly recommend hitting La Iguana Azul before a coquettish splash in the pool at Great Kills Swim Club. Nothing could have prepared us more for a celestial evening dip than an order of guac and chips for the table, followed by al pastor & chicken tacos. To top it all off, the Miami chic interior decor is intoxicating (as were the gargantuan frozen margaritas). With a disco ball & highly literal neon sign in our midst, we were unstoppable.

La Iguana Azul is one of Staten Islands best kept secrets. I found out about this spot from a friend and glad I did. We randomly tried it out on Fathers Day and it wasn't crowded at all. Located in Great Kills you really wouldn't notice it, and it's actually so underrated. The food is authentic Mexican and plain delicious. I didn't happen to get the name of our waiter but he was so friendly and funny, he also made a killer Jalapeño margarita. This is definitely a place I would frequent often, and the prices are great. Most of the island frequents another Mexican spot (which I frequent too) but this is definitely a must go.

Cannot rave enough about how much I LOVE this spot!!! La Iguana Azul is the place to be for authentic Mexican cuisine, as well as getting that real feel of dining in a Mexican Restaurant. The decor is on point and the staff is super friendly. We dined outdoors in their backyard seating which was beautifully decorated with colorful banners and plants. We had to start off with drinks, we specifically went for Margarita Monday. We ordered a Coconut Margarita on the rocks, as well as a Mango Margarita on the rocks and let me tell you, these were the size of our heads!!! & were one of the best margaritas we've ever had. We started with chips & guac as our app which was A1, the guacamole was so flavorful and creamy. As for our entrees, we ordered the Enchiladas and the Mexican style Quesadillas (Tika aka Chicken and Sauce). The food was delicious with every single bite, filled with so much flavor. We loved our margs so much we had to order another round of drinks, this time I tried the Strawberry Mojito which was just as incredible as the Margarita, with super fresh mint. Overall 10/10 experience, I cannot say enough good things about this spot. Check it out ASAP!!!

Went here for the first time with my boyfriend on a late Wednesday night. Manuel was our waiter and he was excellent from the second we walked in. They had around a half hour or so to close and he made it seem if we got there early in the evening. I had a margarita and we shared tacos and a chicken dish. We will definitely be coming back here!!! Additionally, the decor is beautiful and the music is excellent ! Come check it out!!

Online prices- tostadas $10

I was super excited to try this place since my family comes here pretty often. We place an order for pick up and I was unfortunately super disappointed. My mom told me to order the chunky guacamole because she said it's 10/10, we ordered that, along with several entrees. It was the most bland guacamole I've ever had. Absolutely no seasoning at all, just tasted like mashed up avocado with diced tomatoes. Maybe someone forgot to add seasoning and lime. I ordered the chicken tostadas, which again I was super excited to get. The chicken in my tostadas was chicken skin that was super slimy, not crispy, and basically inedible. Looked like chewed up chicken. Super disappointed. Another thing that really upset me was that we were charged more for our food than we were supposed to. On their website online it said the prices were cheaper. The tostadas and quesadillas were listed for $10 each. The guacamole and chips are listed for $7. So we had an idea in our head for a price when we went to pick it up. When I went to pick up my food, the staff member told me the total and I was shocked to hear how expensive. I told him it might be a mistake. The gentleman then proceeded to tell me they RAISED the prices and showed me their menu in the restaurant. He said the prices online were never updated. I told him they should honor the online prices and they didn't. I know it's a few dollars more but that's not the point. I wouldn't mind paying for a few dollars, it's just rude when you see the menu items listed on their ACTIVE website for a lower price and they use the excuse of never updating them. I definitely think is the wrong move for a business to make to not honor their online prices. So instead of paying $10 for the entrees, I got charged $12.48 for each. And instead of $7 for guacamole, I got charged $10.40. Plus tax. Not sure for the odd number prices but that's what it says on my receipt. Ended up paying over $50 for bad food. Super disappointing. We came here on a Friday and sat outside and it was such a beautiful night and my boyfriend and I had such an amazing time. The al pastor tacos were my favorite and we had so many margaritas, they were so yummy!!! Our waiter was extremely nice and accamodating, he didn't rush us to finish and encouraged us to stay as long as we wanted even though they had a busy night. Can't wait for the weather to warm up so that we can sit outside again.

Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine - Three QuesoBirria

Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine

An Unforgettable Quesabirria Experience at Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine!…read more Finding truly exceptional Mexican food can sometimes feel like a quest, but my visit to Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine delivered in a big way, specifically with their phenomenal Quesabirria. From the moment it arrived, I had a feeling it would be special, and I was not disappointed. The quesabirria itself was a masterpiece of flavor and texture. It was immediately clear that freshness was a priority here. The tortilla was perfectly crisped, providing a satisfying base for the generous filling inside. But the real star was the birria steak - it was incredibly tender, bursting with juice, and packed with a deep, savory taste that spoke of careful preparation and quality ingredients. Each bite was simply delicious. What truly elevated the dish, however, were the thoughtful details. The fresh cilantro wasn't just sprinkled on; it added a vibrant, aromatic quality and a necessary burst of freshness that cut through the richness of the meat and cheese beautifully, enhancing the overall taste profile significantly. And then there was the consumé. Oh, that consumé! Calling it 'out of this world' is almost an understatement. It was served steaming hot, a rich, dark broth brimming with complex flavors. It was savory, comforting, and utterly addictive. Seriously, it was so incredibly delicious and satisfying on its own that I could have happily just sipped it straight from the cup. Dipping the flavorful quesabirria into that liquid gold created a perfect harmony - a truly memorable culinary moment. It's been a little while since I had the chance to visit Maya's Cafe, but the memory of that meal has genuinely stayed with me. I find myself actively craving that specific combination of flavors and textures again. While I haven't managed to get back just yet, I am truly looking forward to my next visit, and you can bet I'll be ordering the quesabirria again. If you appreciate authentic Mexican cuisine made with care, or if you're on the hunt for truly outstanding quesabirria, I wholeheartedly recommend making a trip to Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine. It was a fantastic experience, driven by that incredibly tasty and well-executed dish. You won't regret it!

Taco shells were fresh corn Shells with I think grilled melted cheese. The chicken and beef in the tacos were seasoned well with fresh cilantro and lime wedges squeeze on it. Dipping the tacos in the birrea gravy was heaven! The flan was excellent, not overly sweet and delicious. And the fresh guacamole was also excellent with homemade chips, too. I'm so happy Westerleigh has a great Mexican restaurant nearby!

Everything was made fresh and had great flavors . The serving size is perfect if you want to share or not it's not to much . The location is definitely a hidden gem it's very clean and cozy BUT ITS VERY COLD I would have loved to stay and eat but it was just as cold inside as it was outside . The staff is very friendly and they literally will make anything any way you want. Price point is not expensive it's decently priced for the servings you get.
