My friends and I were feeling a bit bothered after watching a psychological thriller film and we wanted to have dessert to get those feel-good vibes again.
We chose Cafe Breton, a dessert experience we're all familiar with. I don't remember if we ordered the Cherries Jubilee (with a flambé) or customized our own crepe with a flambé ourselves. Either of the two are my usual orders at Cafe Breton. What I do remember is that we did get a crepe with a flambé. I love the crepes with flambé, as it's not only an experience of smell or taste, but also sight - particularly, it's a performance. The waiter sets the plate down and then lights it and then the flames lick at, but do not burn, the crepe. We had fun watching the flames dance and disappear. And as we bit into forkfuls of crepe, we felt ourselves perk up again after the gloom cast by the movie.
I never get tired of the taste. There's sweetness of the fruit and the coolness and creaminess of ice cream, mixed with the slight bitterness of alcohol. I really would recommend Cafe Breton's flambé crepes. For the non-flambe crepes, I love Original Sin, which has apples and caramel ice cream and syrup as its main ingredients. The caramel really goes well with the apples.
Of course they have savory crepes too, as well as other savory dishes like pasta and sandwiches, but I always come here for dessert. read more
