It's worth the wait. There is indoor seating and outdoor seating with umbrellas. I recommend sitting near the fountain. Cafe Borrone is the place to go to breakfast on the weekends in Menlo Park. I also like going for any other meal any other day of the week. Everything here is good- I really like their breakfast wraps, chicken salad salad, paninis, and allegedly James and Dave Franco really like the tri tip sandwich. The ONLY reason why I sometimes avoid going here is because of the pigeon situation. If you are a bird hater like me, this is not the place for you. The last time I was here i was eating oatmeal and I turned around and someone's dog was taking a bite out of an alive pigeon that was in a dish bin and it was a whole thing. I do consider myself to be more resilient than many of the other bird haters in the community, so I will continue to go back, but be warned that this is not an isolated pigeon-related incident. ALSO- if you order drinks, remember to pick them up at the drink station. They usually forget to tell you this so if you are new, here you go. I have forgotten this several times despite growing up coming here and have had several cold drinks waiting for me and are warm by the time I finally pick them up. I don't understand why this place is always so busy. There's always a line, any time of day, and it takes forever to get your food. And it's not worth it. The food is only ok, there's always families with children here but there's no kid menu and the portions are way too big. And it's old and grimy. Especially the bathrooms, which are outside in a strip mall. I just saw a literal chunk of feces on the floor while waiting for my breakfast. There are so many better places in the area. I've been coming here for a very long time. This is a great outdoor experience for brunch. Their service is pretty good if not great. The lines can look a bit intimidating, but they are efficient. I suggest having one person order while the other saves a spot because they get taken very fast. I had the BB Wrap, which is essentially a riceless burrito with barbacoa. Love me some barbacoa! I ordered mine without beans. Saucy, delicious, super flavorful, and an awesome item for the menu. I also had the French toast. The platter was not esthetically plated, but it was definitely awesome. The texture was almost bread pudding-like. Can't forget the best drink on the menu! Their frosted mocha (a mocha shake) is their most popular beverage. It is super thick but delicious! I do prefer that over a watery mess as other cafes create. My wife had a drip coffee, and no matter which refill it was, it was always piping hot. I was impressed by the temperature as a cup of coffee is never hot enough for her, but this one passed the test! Our friends made their first visit to Cafe Borrone this time, and they were very happy with their meal as well! They both ordered breakfast sandwiches that are my usual go-to here. I also ordered a fresh squeezed orange juice. They pulled out a pitcher from the refrigerator to pour mine. I was a bit weary from there as I thought I would see some kind of juicing process in front of me. I assume that they juiced it within that hour, maybe? Let me preface by saying that I loved cafe barrone. The food is good, the ambience is good enough, and there's always seating and parking. I come nearly every weekend and have recommended several friends to go there as well. Today's experience was so poor that it makes me sad to lose such a great brunch spot. We were a party of 6; four of us were seated outside with Philz coffee from next door. One lady approached our table and kindly reminded us that no outside food and beverage were allowed. We didn't have anything on the table yet so I can understand why it looked like we were "using" their table. She said we needed to order something, which we were going to but we were still looking at the menus that were in our hands. After we ordered and were waiting with the table numbers, a Second Lady approached our table saying that "this was her place of business", that that we were being extremely rude and that there was no outside food and drink allowed and that she "rather we throw away our drinks". We later confirmed with another staff member that this was the owner. I'll be the first to admit it might not have been right to bring our own coffee, but her attitude and tone was super aggressive for the situation. The worst part was that another table near us that had Philz coffee on their table, and others we saw brought their own tumblers for drink. They did not get the same embarrassing scolding we received. We spent $200 today for breakfast, 2 out of 6 purchased drinks directly from this establishment, four of us didn't. I think the owner needs to reflect on what happened today and hopefully will see the bigger picture because she is losing our weekly visit over her attitude. read more

My Sunday morning trips to the Palo Alto Farmers' Market were missing something...it was missing a good spot to grab a breakfast/brunchy meal once I had finished my shopping and before heading back home. I found the spot!!!!! Only 9 minutes up El Camino Real in Menlo Park...Café Borrone had been waiting for me! Although I was late to discover this café...it is obviously no secret...it was packed with customers! I had scoped the menu before walking in and realized there were many items on their menu that looked like something I would order. Yay...Options!!! Once I got inside, I saw a line of people holding menus and then I saw registers at the front of the line. This must be where I start. Once I got to the front of the line, I told the gentleman that was going to place my order that this was my first time at Café Borrone. He was so nice, knowledgeable and helpful...I knew I wanted a scramble and a latte, but I also knew I wanted something else. I thought about a side of toast but this smart guy talked me into a pastry. I asked which one was his favorite because there were so many good ones to choose from...I couldn't decide. He said the blueberry biscuit was his favorite and I said "okay...I'll have one of those". While I was ordering; I learned that everything is sold à la cart, my food gets dropped off to me at whatever table I pick, I will need to grab my latte from their coffee bar, and that the ingredients they use to make their food comes from local farms. Perfect!!! I ended up with a latte, a blueberry biscuit, a ham and cheese scramble, and a side of breakfast potatoes. He handed me a number (to place on the table for my food delivery), my biscuit along with a napkin and utensils and then I went over to the coffee bar to grab my latte. As I waited for my latte, I met another nice employee. He was making my drink and he told me that the pastry item I picked is his favorite. YUUUSSSS! At this point, without eating a thing, I felt like I had scored and literally just wanted to eating the biscuit as I stood there waiting for my drink. Ha...my drink didn't even take a long time...I was just so excited for the biscuit! Buuut I managed to have a bit of self-control and I waited until I sat down. I got a spot at a bar table near the coffee bar. Again...Perfect!!! I didn't even wait for my food to arrive, I just took a sip of the latte and started eating my biscuit. Oh my gosh...both were sooo good. Now I could see why everyone liked that blueberry biscuit so much. The texture was just right...it was tender with just the right amount of fluffy yet firm and loaded with fresh juicy blueberries bursting with flavor!!!! Then out came my hot items! I had grabbed a bottle of hot sauce, as I usually add that to most of my breakfast meals, BUT I decided to try the scramble and the potatoes without hot sauce first (simply based on how flavorful the biscuit was). Neither one needed hot sauce. The potatoes had been prepared with thinly sliced onions which added great flavor and the texture of my skillet was on point; not dry and a good ratio of cheese and ham to egg...and so totally ymmy!!! Because of where I was sitting, I could see the staff while I ate. They were friendly, attentive and busy...helping customers with to-go boxes, replenishing sugar caddies and condiments, clearing and cleaning tables once patrons left so other people could sit down and enjoy their meals. I even dropped a napkin on the floor at one point and was going to pick it up once I was done eating. Nope...the staff was on it...a gal came over and picked it up before I finished my meal. And because I was so close to the coffee bar area, the gentleman that took my order came up and checked on me to see make sure I was enjoying everything. What perfect service from start to finish! I love this cafe so much - one of my favorite cafes that use higher quality syrups other than Torani which make for a more gourmet tasting latte. My favorite is definitely their iced hazelnut. Their breakfast veggie wrap was delicious and super filling. It's definitely on the healthier side compared to ones that contain breakfast potatoes, but it's yummy nonetheless. My friend got a salmon bagel and he really enjoyed it! Fresh salmon and pretty cut veggies made the $22 bagel seemingly worth it. My breakfast sandwich was so delicious and the portion was huge. The blended chai tasted pretty watered down though. I tried some of my friend's French toast and it was amazing. It came with a vanilla bean butter which was immaculate and such a nice creamy addition to the French toast. This place does not take reservations- it's open seating on first come first serve basis. Plenty of outdoor and indoor options. Despite the rush and long line the staff was courteous and the line move very quickly. Efficiently managed overall. Menus were distributed for people standing in line . Then someone came and took the order while we were still in line. Pay as you reach the counter and go and sit wherever you like with your number in hand. Good idea to have someone in the group hold a table while the rest are inline. I ordered the beet root goat cheese salad - it was good but small portion size. The food is sooooo good it was so hard to choose. I had the egg potatoe wrap soooo good. Came here with my wife, 2 sisters, brother-in-law, and nephew for dinner on Thursday. There aren't many large tables but we found one that seated 6 indoors near the back. They have quasi-table service here. You order at the front and then they bring your food to you. Madison took our order and made some solid recommendations, especially the glass of Sancerre for my wife. They don't have a bar, per se, but I ordered and enjoyed an Aperol Spritz. Madison also checked in with us to make sure everything was to our liking. We enjoyed everything we ordered. The mushroom soup was rich with mushroom flavor and creamy - delicious. The beet "salad" was very beet forward - probably two beets worth of beet on it. Could have used some more arugula to balance it out, actually. All of the main courses we had -- gnocchi, pasta with pork ragu, and chicken pie -- were very flavorful. The gnocchi was very garlic-forward, fair warning. That's a personal preference. For me, I would have liked more balance with the basil. Although I live in North Carolina, I grew up in the Bay Area and visit frequently so I don't get sticker shock in restaurants, especially in $ilicon Valley. This place is nostalgic for me, as I spent a lot of my high school years here, so I'll keep coming back regardless of my little gripes. Back in the day, the thing to order was the Frosted Mocha. And it would still be if we could consume all the sugar and the calories. These days, we order much simpler cappuccinos and lattes or maybe just some sparkling water. The food it simple and good but nothing truly unique or amazing. You stand in a line (that moves faster than expected) to order your drinks and food. They give you a number for the food and bring that to you. However, the drink process is a bit convoluted. You have to go get the drinks yourself, but there's no way to tell when they are ready. I guess they could yell out names (like in Starbucks) but I never heard a name called. My husband reluctantly comes here because of this issue. The process for the drinks could be a bit better, especially if this is not a regular place for someone. read more

First time visit, but will definitely come back on my next visit to Menlo park. Ordered the Frosted Mocha and the Shake n Maple Iced Espresso. I initially hesitated on the frosted Mocha because it was a $9 drink. After drinking it, I realize the cost was a combination of the quality of the drink and how long it would take for you to drink it through a straw. It was extremely thick and rich, but still somehow balanced. It was fairly sweet and the whipped cream was delicious but hea y, so I probably won't get it again. But anyone with a chocolate sweet tooth would love it. The shake n Maple drink was also very tasty, with a strong maple taste that complimented the espresso. The staff who took the order was very helpful and recommended the drinks, and the barista was quite quick with the drinks while still keeping it tasty There were tons of tables available inside and outside around the fountain, so a nice environment to study or have a lunch date. Located next to Kepler's books, a great bookstore, and plenty of underground parking on a Tuesday afternoon, so every reason to come back and try the food. read more

Came here for my boyfriends birthday brunch on a Friday around 11am. They serve brunch until 12pm so we lucked out that we still got to try their brunch/breakfast items. We had to wait in line for around 10 min but there were many tables outdoors that we could sit at. We ordered food at the cashier then got a number and the waiters serve the food to you. We decided to order the French toast and #3 scrambeled eggs (had mushrooms, shallots, creme fraiche, scallions). The French toast was nothing special in my opinion and it was pretty heavy. I wouldn't order it again. The scrambeled eggs were light and fluffy which I appreciated. But again not worth the price. We also ordered a cafe vanilla coffee which was yummy.
