I wanted a relaxing place to enjoy a lunch after spending the morning looking around to mall and enjoying the Holiday decor. I figured that this place would have the same quality and service as Nordstrom. I was correct. You do order at a counter and seat yourself in the dining room but the wait staff takes it from there. Comfortable seating and rich decor with lots of natural light. Friendly Service that checks on you and get refills as needed. Since I am a light eater, I was happy that I could order from the kids menu. I ordered grilled cheese and tomato soup. Off the adult menu I added 2 cheddar chive biscuits taking one home. My meal came with fruit dish and a drink. I got a diet Coke which they have in fountain form. The food is well above average. Grilled cheese was on artisan bread. Soup was perfect with it. The cheddar chive biscuits are delicious. I didn't see a dessert menu but was too full so the bit size chocolate at the end of the meal was perfect. If you have a normal American appetite, the adult menu of appetizers, soups, salads, pizza and entrees will be perfect. The pizza can be shared. I went here with my mom and aunt for a light lunch. All of us got small plates. We all loved our dishes. I especially loved the chicken cilantro lime tacos. Everything was fresh and it was a wonderful and light lunch to have. The service was quick. We order our food at the counter, choose a place to sit and then they bring it to us. We also got water with our meals, which came cold with ice. The ambiance is wonderful. It's super relaxed and well spaced out. Interesting experience. I was shopping in the department adjacent to the Bistro so I asked the saleslady who was assisting me if the bistro is any good and she didn't hesitate to tell me it is and asked if I like goat cheese to which I replied "Yes!". She recommended the chicken sandwich and said they also have good fries. I went in and instead of being seated you have to place your order at the counter. Not only that, you also are asked to tip at the time which is odd because how do you know if the service is deserving of a tip? I mean they HAVE to bring your orders. Why are we playing extra for that? The sandwich fries and drink is $22 and the tax and tip. I felt uncomfortable because the cashier was literally waiting for me to decide my tip to complete my transaction. The implied pressure is just unnecessary. I added a tip and was told to take the complete order receipt to the table. The first table I sat at had debris from the last patron on the seat so I found another. The sandwich wasn't great. At all. I eat out a lot and I enjoy eating out. I am reconsidering because the food is so often mediocre and the prices are top notch. Anyway, the chicken on the sandwich had a weird, tough texture. I couldn't tell if it was deli sliced or thinly shaven tough chicken. The coke was extremely watered down. No offer for a refill although I never get one. But no offer. Interesting seeing others also have the same (weird) experience of having to order at the front but then be seated and have a nice server take care of us at the table. Note: study the menu before you go as they don't let you sit and look at the menu which is a bit strange. Once we ordered and got to sit, everything was really great. The food is pretty good for a bistro in the middle of a store. It beats waiting in line for an hour and a half for Cheesecake factory. The server we had was great, very attentive and made sure we what we needed throughout the lunch. The reason for my two star is being yelled at by the cook at the station near the registers for picking a seat before ordering. They weren't busy for a 2pm on a Saturday and I get there is a flow to grab a seat, but I did not appreciate being yelled at by this large angry lady. Visited Cafe Bistro for lunch with a friend. It's located on the second level of Nordstrom. You order at the cash register and take a seat and a waiter will come serve you. We ordered the Chicken Lemon Pesto Gnocchi and Portobello Mushroom Ravioli. Both came in generous portions and were delicious! The gnocchi came with a lot of chicken. Ended the meal with a mint chocolate. Highly recommend and would come back for a meal after shopping in the mall. read more

First time dining and was pleasantly surprised that it was quite good. The crab bisque soup was very tasty. They offer half size salads and the ginger sesame salad pretty good. You preorder your meal before taking a seat so interaction with server is minimal. Our server was fine but did not come back to offer refills on drinks. The dining room is nice and was not very crowded so it was not very noisy. They do sell a cookbook with the recipes from their menu. The recipes are not too complicated for the average home cook. I am surprised that Cafe Bistro hasn't had a Yelp review in over two years. I visited the restaurant after a day of shopping and had a great time. The ordering process was convenient, you order at the counter (including tip) and a server comes to your table to pick up the check and bring your order. I ordered the Steak Frite and my companion ordered the Salmon Nicoise Salad. The food came out quickly; my 8 oz strip streak (medium rare) was top notch, with blue cheese nuggets on top. The fries were terrific. It came with a kalamata olive aioli, whether this was for the fries or the steak, I'm unsure but I could have done without it and had ketchup instead. All in all, this restaurant is a sleeper hit in Novi and I would recommend to anyone read more

It came out well done but was still very tender and the cilantro sauce on top was really good too fried were crispy and the truffle oil and garlic oil was flavorful. WHERE: enter Nordstrom from the food court side and go to the 2nd floor (of Nordstrom of course). It's on the East side of the store. Stopped by here for lunch today. Menus are by the door; order first at the counter then food will be brought to you. When you pay, there's no tip line. Make sure to bring cash after seating yourself for tip (since your server will be pretty much on top of your water the whole time). During the work week, you'll spot many moms here with their strollers. The food: - Citrus Turkey Sandwich - pretty delicious. The Citrus cranberry chutney (jam) hit the spot. Fries were cooked crunchy. Wasn't a fan of the olive aioli (too olive oily taste) served with the fries but my counterpart liked it. - Bistro Crab Bisque - good, no complains here. Not the best I've had though. The bread served with it was pretty greasy here (super soft, barely toasted) - French onion Soup - not salty (most places over salt French onion so this was really welcoming) BUT when they brought it, it was sitting in a thick layer of oil! Had to scrape it all off but tasted much better after that - Nicoise Salmon Salad - pretty healthy and light. Enjoyed the mix of capers and green beans. I'd order again. More pros: - calorie count is on the menu per item (if you're into that sort of thing - not crowded and comfy booths in comparison to the food court Cons: - from the previous pictures, my nicoise salad looks the best! The sauce is evenly distributed on my salmon and my potatoes are nicely roasted. I hope they are usually more consistent on service! - can be pricy. 2 soups, 1 salad and a sandwich ran ~$45 (w/o tip). But that's Nordstrom for ya. Me and the hubby came here for a nice dinner after a day of shopping at the mall. It's located in Nordstrom and very easy to spot. So, when we walked in we were greeted and given a menu to order up in the front with the cashiers. I ordered the club sandwich and husband ordered the prime French dip sandwich and two lemonades. So, after paying we were told to be seated wherever we like and the food would be brought out to us. Food came out in a good time, a little longer than normal but we did not mind because it was being made fresh. Once it came out though the food was YUM, so fresh and delicious. Service was also good. Appalling experience here. My friend was ordering and I and my other friend sat down like many other customers. We were approached by a server after being seated (for at least 10 minute) who was explaining to us that we shouldn't be seated yet. She claimed that we had to go stand outside and wait until our friend was done ordering THEN we could sit. As she is explaining, we see multiple empty tables. We read the sign by the door which said nothing of this policy. In fact, it said "ask your server about any items" or something similar. When asked to speak to the manager, she took her time continuing the dishes she was working on. We also witnessed a couple who did the exact thing we did without a word to them. We also happened to be the only minorities in the restaurant. Either way, it's so insulting to be removed from the restaurant in that manner when it was our first time going there with no signage indicating the policy and the alleged policy wasn't being applied to anyone else. After a day of shopping, Cafe Bistro (located right inside Nordstrom) is always the perfect spot to top it off. They have the best soups ever! Their crab bisque is always my go-to. It's hearty and delicious and it is served with a side of crispy and flavorful crostini bread. We always order an extra side of the bread. It's great paired with the soup. We tried the margarita pizza on our last visit. It was a slightly salty but still good. Just about everything at Cafe Bistro is house-made. This place kind of makes me angry with how good the food is. Like, seriously, HOW IS IT THAT GOOD?!? In all seriousness, when I think of Cafe Bistro, "anger" is the last thing that comes to me. I get excited just hearing the name. I've visited on a few different occasions with different people and have yet to witness anyone being disappointed. The only snag is, the food is pretty pricey for the servings/portions. HOWEVER, the flavor more than makes up for that in my opinion. HORRIBLE SERVICE! One of our favorite places to grab lunch and shop is Nordstrom's, so we decided to take my friend out to lunch there for her birthday. It was a total mistake! we order our food and a bottle of champagne and find our table. Several minutes later a server comes over to greet us and look at our check. She brings back the bottle of champagne and some water glasses for us, but no wine glasses. She looked flustered and confused and walks away. Several minutes go by and she still has not returned with our wine glasses. So I get up to ask another server for them. She responds "Oh, the other server didn't bring them for you?" I talk her no and that we would like 3 glasses please. She goes about her business and never brings us the wine glasses. 10 minutes later, we still have not gotten them, so I go up to the cashier and ask her if we could please get some wine glasses. She looks worried and calls the manager, who is standing at the food expo, and does not respond to the cashier. So I walk aver to the manager and tell her "This is the 2nd time I have gotten up to ask for 3 wine glasses, can I please get them so we can drink our champagne". She gives me a snare, and aggressively yells "YEAH". A couple minutes go buy and finally a food runner brings us our glasses. it's been about 20 minutes at this point and we can finally drink our wine, that is barely cold, possibly it was not very chilled before it was brought to us. We get our food a little later we are missing our fruit, crostinis, and dressing. So we ask her for them, and to our surprise, she never comes back with them. At this point we have completely given up on them eat our food quickly and leave. All 3 of us work in the service industry as servers and bartenders at high end restaurants, so you can imagine our patients with the staff. We got dirty looks for the 2 servers on the floor and the manager, who looks extremely angry with no customer service every time we see her, a middle aged lady with a bob . We come to the cafe weekly to enjoy lunch and shopping, but maybe we will have to find a new place to eat. We never get great service from the cafe staff, but this by far was one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. I get take out from this place a few times a month and I've never been disappointed with its fresh fare. The Bistro Crab Bisque is one of my favorite dishes to order, and the crustinis that come along side of it are just to die for. Their salads are sandwiches are better than average, but I wish they were served in something with a little more insulation, as everything that should be hot seems really cold by the time I get back to the office, which is just about a mile away. The crown jewel of this place, in my opinion, is Cafe Bistro's take on French fries, which are nicely seasoned with a delightful blend of what I believe to be garlic, salt and herbs. The fries are served with a splendid "ketchup" that I'm not even sure has tomatoes in it. And while I do love take-out from Cafe Bistro, I'm not a fan of dining in. It has nothing to do with the friendly staff, but the patrons. I'm almost positive they're all snooty housewives and daddy's-girls who spend their days shopping and lunching with their friends, only to drive home in their Mercedes, Land Rovers or BMWs to catch up on the soaps the recorded while they were out. read more

Now, as for my review. I have eaten at Nordstrom Bistro and ordered food to-go on several occasions and have rarely been disappointed. The entrées and desserts are so delicious and the ingredients in the salads and on the pizzas are always fresh. This bistro is a wonderful departure from the greasy, predictable food that is available in the food court, and I am happy to say that it is still somewhat a secret that very few non-Nordstrom customers know about. You can typically eat in peace without obnoxious toddlers yelling and running around or hoards of teenagers sitting around taking up tables, and they offer wine and now craft beer! After a long day of shopping, waiting in lines, dragging bags around, and searching for a parking spot at 12 Oaks, being able to sit down and have a fresh, hot meal and a glass of wine is a welcome escape. I did not give 5/5 stars, because I find the setup at the bistro a tad bit odd. You order and pay for your food at the front, then you choose a table and your server brings your food and drinks. I find this odd, because you close your bill before you are able to tip your server. So, if you pay for your food with a credit card, and do not have cash on you, then you are unable to tip your server unless you order additional food after you are seated. I have eaten here before and didn't have any cash, so I ordered additional food to-go just so I could have the opportunity to leave a tip for my server, but this can make for an uncomfortable situation for customers, especially if they are not aware of this before eating here. read more

What a pleasant surprise! Who knew a department store could make such great food. We've been twice now and each time I've had the Roast Chicken Pommes Frites. Nice crispy skin on the outside, juicy and moist chicken breast underneath. The fries are also cooked perfectly. Just be sure to dip them in the Kalamata Olive Aioli that comes on the side. If Nordstrom's only had a TV, I would sign up to go shopping more often. The Novi location currently does not have cupcakes, but we hear that they're coming soon. Somerset Collection has red velvet cupcakes! Yes, real red velvet, not that red no. 5 food coloring. By far, the best cupcake that we've eaten in Michigan. Nordstrom's is that deal! read more

This spot is great for lunches and dinners. Soups, salads, sandwiches, flat breads, entrees. You order up at the counter and pay, then the food is brought out. I personally like the roasted chicken sandwich, the pear salad, the tomato basil soup, Asian salad, mushroom flat bread, the fries are excellent with the aioli they serve with it. Yum. Will go back again soon. Rated it a 3 star and not a 5 only because I don't like having to order and pay at the same time. It makes it awkward to tell the server how much to charge the tip if paid by credit card and don't have cash. Also, I feel the food is overpriced for what they give you. 13.25 for an Asian salad that's the size of a side salad. You can go to J Alexanders and have a salad double the size for the same price. I love love love this cafe for a quick bite! I'll be honest I always get the same things every time but they are amazing! I get the French dip sandwich with the truffle fries and the roasted cauliflower appetizer. The sandwich is juicy and so fresh and the cauliflower is on a bed of hummus with feta, it is to die for! The last few times have been absolutely awful! I ordered the Salmon Salad to go. What a big disappointment. The salmon they gave me was so small and the salad was missing two ingredients. What a wonderful experience! From perfect service to great food and awesome price! Nice and unpretentious just wonderful! You'll never guess that a 'cafe' inside Nordstrom had such quality! By the way, Nordstrom cafe is not the same in all of the different malls and the one food service company that owns the cafe at Sommerset has long ways to go compare to this one! Who would guess that the one in Novi is 10 times better than the one in Troy :) ? French fries are made to perfection, creamy inisde, crispy on the outside, nice and golden and hot! Bisque was wonderful, tray of cheeses was a a good small bite option. My kids order the chicken fingers, and it is moist and crispy. I like the salads and have tried the margherita pizza. I have been coming here for years. I honestly have never had anything here that I wasn't satisfied with. Some of my favorites include the Nicoise salad, Margherita pizza, Sautéed chicken and angel hair pasta, and the Caesar salad. They are bistro classics but they have a special Nordstrom kitchen touch. The service is so friendly, from the cashier to the chefs (open kitchen), everyone you encounter is so polite and kind. I always have a good time and great food here! Highly recommend! read more

Visiting from out of town. Friends recommended this place. Ordered the cup of French Onion Soup and the Hummus plate with toasted flatbread. Sorry Bistro, the French Onion Soup had no flavor whatsoever. I don't know what kind of stringy cheese was on top, but it was layered on too thick. I couldn't eat it. The hummus plate was a yawner. A couple of chick peas laced throughout it, some feta sprinkled on top, and a couple kalamata olive pieces. How about some peppers, cucumber, and more veggies? A pile of toasted pita wedges was uninspiring. It was okay, not great. Added a coke to drink. Bill was $20. I won't patronize this kind of bistro in the future. read more
