Clearly favorited by locals, the owner and bartender did their best with English and recommended a red wine, and told me about their specials. My husband joined me just after my wine arrived. I had the daily special, which was a chicken curry -- absolutely full of curry and coconut flavor, and the chicken was tender and delicious. My husband had the beef, which was served with grilled sundried tomatoes (completely changing the normally overpowering flavor) and pesto -- unbelievably good. The beef came with a side of pasta with a rich, mushroom gravy, which put him over the moon. We highly recommend Ortner's -- perhaps the best meal we had in Austria!

We sat in the terrace overlooking the valley and mountains. All the dishes were beautiful and expertly cooked, plated with care. My daughter had ravioli stuffed with smoked trout that was especially good, and I was charmed by a fresh salad garnished with nasturtiums. My young sons had excellently made schnitzel. Our service was friendly and attentive. The prices are quite reasonable, so there is no reason not to go. Our lunch here was a highlight of our trip and pleased both the Americans and Austrians in our group.

The outside is adorable, adorned with crimson red and golden design. The interior has the same matching decorations. It's less like a cafe and reminds me more of a parlor, it has a very vintage aesthetic. Everything from the silver trays to the contemporary paintings emits elegance. There wasn't an English menu but they had one with pictures (I think the waitress knew we were tourists and let us point to what we wanted). It was a hot day so we both ordered iced coffee which looked like a coffee milkshake. The drink was absolutely delicious! The coffee was strong and bitter, but mixed with the ice cream really sweetened it up. The menu was small and dedicated mostly to drinks and some pastries. On the back of the sheet is the allergy information. I have celiacs, so it listed everything with gluten. Unfortunately, there are no gluten-free pastries. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. If you're in town, I'd definitely recommend checking this place out! Also, they don't take card here! Luckily there is a bank nearby where we were able to withdraw some euros. It's in the normal price range--maybe slightly higher. For two drinks, it cost us 12 euros in total.
