Since this place is right smack in the middle of picturesque Berchtesgaden, you can't really go wrong with dining here since you'll probably be so drawn in to the beautiful surroundings of the town. This is a relatively straightforward local Bravarian pub/restaurant. You have your waiters all in traditional dress and the expected cozy beer house settings. I had a chance to sample their weisswurst/white sausages, which are traditionally served before noon and always freshly made (at the right places). This place did not disappoint .. with the sausages tasting extremely fresh and pairing perfectly with that tasty traditional Bravarian sweet mustard. (Tip: You do not eat the skin of these sausages - locals typically cut the sausage in half horizontally and take the meat out that way). The beer here was also just right and adding pretzels to the mix made the whole experience feel so ... Bravarian. If you're visiting this lovely part of Germany, it's not a bad idea to stop by and sample some of their nice traditional fare. So, I need some help from others who have been there in the last 45 years to jog some memories. Back in the mid-70s my USAF family was returning to the U.S. from the Middle East and we stayed a week in Berchtesgadan. I fell in love with the trout tank and the fresh trout to the point where we went back two more times that week. Later in the early 80s we were back and I went there again and had to trout once more. It was amazing! Even after 45 years those trout loom large in my memory of Berchtesgaden. Anyone else remember the trout tank? Does it still exist? Do they still serve trout if it doesn't? Terrible service!!!! we waited for a long time to get the bill and our buss was about to leave, my husband who is super nice asked if we could get the bill as the bus was leaving and the waited said:" thats not my problem, is it." my nice husband still left the guy a tip but I was furious. Wow! EXCELLENT food! Located in the old part of Berchtesgaden, the restaurant is right off of a pedestrian only street so lots of people watching and ambience while sitting on their front dining patio. The staff provided excellent service. One of the reviewers on here said it was the best wiener schnitzel they've ever had. That man was not exaggerating. I got the Ramsauer Bergsteigerschnitzel vom Filet Rahmschwammerl and it was easily the best schnitzel I've ever had in my life. It had a very unique fried Parmesan crust that was out of this world. While looking for a place to each lunch in Berchtesgaden I stumbled into this place. It was packed with people. Almost every seat was taken, so we decided to give it a try. We were seated on the upstairs level that was cozy and laid back atmosphere. The menu was diverse from traditional German food to pizza and pasta. While the German food was good and what we expected, the homemade pasta was amazing and presented beautifully. Someone in our group got a pizza, which came so early that he was finished by the time the rest of the food got to the table. The pizzas are HUGE too. read more

Fresh salads with greens- which aren't just iceberg or feel like a bagged- Tomatoes-dried fruits-and a wonderful dressing. My general idea for finding places to eat in a foreign town is that the locals vote with their feet, so we went here because it was packed (with Germans, not foreign tourists). Our waitress didn't speak English, but i didn't mind as it added to our "cultural experience" a touch. This choice was great, though. Can't exactly remember what i got but it was sausage + kraut + beer = sehr gut. They have pizza, burgers and all that in case you're not into the German fare (why are you here if not?!?). My wife got the goulash and it was her favorite meal of our entire trip. Great find and the next time we find ourselves in the awesome town we will certainly be back. read more

Although I have been going back to my wife's home town for well over 40 years I expected more from Bebe Hastlinger's Goldene Bar. I' have been going there for well over ten years; and before that, his restaurant on Salzburger Strasse, and as far back as the Post Hotel, I have never eaten as horrible than the 12th June, 2019. It was absolutely the worst ever and horrible than anywhere in Berchtesgaden. I ordered a "Teufels Toast, my son's wife the 18 euros, "Trout Fish"- the fish looked like they caught it last year. Cold, and tasteless, almost like Gummy tasting and absolutely dry. When we tried to get the Waitress attention, (a fat Polish or Czech female,) she was more interested in talking with others who were not Stamm Kunden. I paid the bill in Cash, as they don't take American Express. Horrible save your money. (*Eu -84,50) The rest of what we ordered was cold and we ate very little. I ate here twice during my stay in Berchtesgaden. Quick service, and the menu had dual German/English which was very helpful. The ox meat dish I got the first time was decent, and especially enjoyed the zest from the grated horseradish. The 1/2 pork knuckle was amazing, though. Perfectly crispy skin and tender meat. Overall a great place to sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere of the town over some food and drink. read more

I have to say upfront I left this place without actually getting any food, but I was brought a coffee. My family and I had a recommendation from a tour guide ( he had proven knowledgeable and decent man) so we went to the Goldener Bar. The menu as both in German and English, which was good, because a lot of it was authentic to the point of me not be able to translate to my children. Another plus was this place was full of Leder Hosen and summer frock wearing Germans , drinking local beer and eating local dishes. So I do swear it is authentic. The main saloon inside is large and there are plenty of outside tables, with an awning to cover from the sun or the rain. Now we get to the unpleasant bit. The main waiter was ruthless with his time to the point of being ridiculous, gruff, and matter of fact. Never have I been told I am too slow ordering. Trust me I am incredibly quick. I was actually told that he would bring the dishes we had ordered and he would come back for my spouses and mine. Guess, what I did not get any food. The children's dishes , a noodle soup with beef and a penna pasta cheese sauce with a pinch of spice were fine and we're eaten, but what can I say, I gave exact change and gave no tip. Der haupt waiter was too matter of fact , too ruthless and impersonal, and did not bring me what I asked for. It was lunch time, not even busy, I just wanted to get out. We were recommended to the Golden Bear by our tour guide and had high hopes that it would be good after a recommendation. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to in my entire life. Poor service (very slow) and horrific quality. It took a solid ten minutes for them to acknowledge us and to get a table (it was not busy). We were then given a rather simplistic one-page menu in English. Apparently the ribs, steak, and pizza that they had advertised did not exist. My girlfriend and I ordered plain burgers, and the waiter just was not having it. He kept shouting to us "it's burger!" We went ahead assuming it would be okay. When we received our order, it had just about every topping and condiment possible. After a few minutes of trying to get our waiter's attention to fix the issue, he just looked at us and kept shouting "it's burger!" Then, he left and came back with the check. Reluctantly, we tried to scrape everything off, but the meat itself was of the utmost terrible quality and we just ended up eating the side of fries instead. For around 12 euros a burger, this experience was ridiculous and we would NEVER recommend this establishment to anyone. If someone recommends this place to you, they must be getting some sort of kickback. read more

Still thinking about the perfect meal we had back in 1988 at this restaurant. I know my "review" is ancient, but *just* found out this establishment was on yelp. Had to put my 2.5 cents in. We had Jaegerschnitzel mit Spaetzle und Preiselbeeren. Wish I had their recipe. I see that not all the recent reviews are good...wonder if they've changed hands since we were there. read more

Our Panorama tour guide recommended this place on our stop in Berchtesgaden, but it was just fair. They have a 'get the tourists in and out' setup, it seemed, so the food was fast but not great. If we had to do trip over again we would have researched the town and found something else. read more
