The Hyde Park Gourmet Grocer is exactly as it sounds. It is gourmet and boutique and quite small, which means that if you're after a special cut of aged meat for a charcuterie platter, you are likely to find it here, but if you are looking for a box of Kraft Dinner to satisfy a major craving, you'll be out of luck (trust me, I tried).
The grocer is well-stocked with fresh vegetables and pantry items, gourmet meats and cheeses, fresh and dried pastas, some frozen foods, and a selection of salads and deli items. It is the perfect place to pop in if you are preparing for a party and need some food to impress hungry guests, but I would never suggest that you do your weekly shop there as it is quite pricey.
Essentially, the grocer is like most places along King William Road: excellent for last minute provisions, a once-off treat, or specialty items, but not so great for sticking to your budget (or buying boxed macaroni that comes complete with powdered cheese). read more
