It's easy to find with ample seating inside and some seating outside. Menu is extensive and has lots of vegetarian options which was a plus as the individual I was brunching with a vegetarian.  There's a variety of dishes ranging from bircher muesli to baked eggs, to grain bowls to scrambled eggs to fritters and to big brekkies.  We got the mushroom hash which was a large hash brown topped with sauteed mushroom and two poached eggs. It could have done with some dressing or sauce as it was quite bland on its own but I liked the hash and the mushrooms and the crispy fried enoki.  The zucchini and corn fritters were three large fritters with lots of kale and edamame salad, two poached eggs, and some deliciously fried haloumi. I loved the combination of haloumi with the kale salad which was refreshing. The eggs were beautifully poached and complemented the fritters. Once again, some sort of sauce would have been useful such as an aioli dip or guacamole as the meal felt very dry.  My mocha was delicious.  Attentive staff.  split billing accepted.  didn't need to queue on a 10am sunday morning

Their entire selection (which caters to carnivores and vegetarians alike) will set you back $12.50 - and comes with a side of garlic & rosemary thick cut chips. Being a child of the 80's, how I was I ever going to get anything but the Mr. Miyagi? I can't remember having ever had carrot or daikon on a burger before (much less at the same time!), but I completely didn't hate it. The teriyaki didn't overwhelm the beef (thankfully), although I could have used more wasabi in my kewpie (TWSS). I am a glutton for heat, though, so whatever. I'd also recommend making a bed out of the chips, then letting the run-off drizzle over the top. I maintain that if you're going to get to work on clogging your arteries, you may as well do it properly. I dig the fitout although all black may not be to everyone's liking. The vintage apothecary stuff is a nice touch. The tunes were good, although as the place filled during the lunch rush it did get quite noisy. Flying solo meant I didn't have to worry about conversation so I didn't care, though. The wait staff were excellent (in that they were friendly and attentive). If you were in the area and didn't feel like NTran, it'd be rude not to go.

This changed when I decided to jump off the train one morning while I was on the way to work. All I can say is that I was impressed - very, very impressed. The coffee was nothing short of awesome, the atmosphere typical of the area, and very relaxing, and the service top notch. I can see why a lot of people stop by here for their morning coffee, but then again it probably is force of habit.

Coffee would be the 5 star rating for my experience here, everything else fell just a little bit short. The menu is interesting and like MBD, all vegetarian or vegan with loads of gluten free options. As I'm neither vego nor coeliac, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. I had a mexican bean stew that was so scolding hot that I couldn't eat a single mouthful before my dining partner had finished theirs. Even after that, by the time I struggled through a couple of painfully hot mouthfuls, there wasn't enough flavour to keep me going. My friend had the umami mushrooms, which were delicious. Although she noted that the polenta bread was really stodgy and didn't make her feel very good either. The space itself is tiny and cramped. It's not comfortable and it's LOUD. Really loud. We had to perch at the window and huddle to hear each other, while getting almost burnt from the sun rays blaring in. However, like I said, the coffee is amazing. If you were in the neighbourhood I would definitely say go in for a coffee. If you're looking for an all Veg/GF menu, it would be worth seeking out to have it paired with great coffee.

The cakes are the kind that make you drool every time you walk past. They are all made using fresh ingredients, and you can tell, they look amazing. Our gingerbread was great, light with a nice crunch and good flavour, but unfortunately the lemon tart was disappointing and was far too bitter to finish even with two of us sharing it. We ordered two juices as well which were super fresh and refreshing. Atmosphere: As the cafe is quite large, it can feel a bit quiet very easily. We found it felt a bit deserted even though there were still quite a few people in there. It has a nice design though, good separate area for people ordered take away and bright artwork on the wall. Service: Service was friendly and it's nice to go somewhere for a snack and feel you are being treated equally to people ordering main meals and we were, nothing was too much trouble. Would I go back: If I was passing. It's a shame, on the face of it looks like a great place but the cakes just didn't live up to expectation.

In addition to the good coffee is the smiling service and the good food. I've had the eggs benedict and a spinach pastry snack and both were really nice. My girlfriend had her eggs benedict with salmon and quite enjoyed that as well. The location has outdoor seating, although it's not very pleasant when the buses go by and, well, it overlooks the parking lot. But all in all it's a great place to stop in for a quick snack, a coffee, or to meet up with a friend.

I've eaten at this cafe many times, and the food is hit and miss. The premade food (in the glass…read morecounters) is normally very good, and they often have excellent and interesting muffins. But I'm always disappointed when I have something from the menu (made to order). For example, this morning I ordered 2 poached eggs with sourdough toast. The eggs came out on one piece of toast - what? It was a normal than larger piece of toast, but still, it was not big enough for both eggs. The bread was sliced super thin and it wasn't toasted very well, so it became soggy and wet with the egg yolk. If it had been properly toasted, it would have still retained some crunch. I think they toast it very lightly because it is sliced so thin -- otherwise it would become hard as cardboard. One of the eggs wasn't fully cooked and the egg white was clear and very runny. This is just an example of several experiences with the cooked-to-order menu. Overall this is the best place to sit down and eat in the Wheelers Hill shopping centre, but just make sure you order something from the glass cases.

It was such a satisfying brunch that I can already tell next time I'll be tempted to order the same again. However if I'm feeling like something more indulgent next time, I'd try the banana pancakes or even the 'collective sigh of relief', the Collective Espresso's version of a big breaky (with an adorable name). Another plus to Collective Espresso was the presentation of the food, everything looked superb arranged on the plate. After the meal, we sat and chatted for longer than expected. I really appreciated that the staff were happy to let us linger and at no stage, did we feel rushed out the door. This to me, is great service that encourages me to return. It was a splendid lazy Saturday brunch.

The most impressive feat Tom Thumb achieves is the consistently good quality of coffee they pump out, despite the different baristas who stand behind the coffee machine! For those of you who love a treat or two along with your coffee, Tom Thumb regularly stocks donuts that are to die for, scrolls, and peanut butter cookies (oh god).
