This cafe was less than a block from the Hilton where i stayed and constantly came in clutch It's a whole food quantity level of good to pick from in a cafe. I don't even care if my protein shake wasn't amazing. This place was recommended to us when we were in NYC for Thanksgiving week. It was okay. It was clean and organized. We didn't order food or eat from the bar. I guess our timing was off because any time we stopped in, those parts either appeared to be shut down or they were breaking down the bar. That was fine because we really just went there for drinks and snacks. The place was just OKAY. Given it's location, I'm sure it's an expensive place to operate, but they certainly make up for it by inflating the prices of everything. Wow! Actually had a great BEC here and the kids enjoyed an order of bacon and pancakes (3 big pancakes for $10.95). The Bacon egg and cheese was $7. Place is clean and bright and the staff was too the point and efficient. Be warned though, the two people ahead of us were complaining about price discrepancies which I remember was a problem when I use to work in the area. Otherwise, no complaints. read more

I came in here one morning to grab something quick for breakfast. The sandwich line was really long so I took a glance at their hot bar. I saw pork dumplings and put 5 into a small plastic container. Five. FIVE. Upon heading to check out and pay they were deemed to be $10. These dumplings WERE NOT sized or weighing anywhere near being worth $2 each. The women at the register said they were heavy - yeah, heavy with thick skin and NOT with meat filling. The dumplings themselves tasted okay...okaaaaaay....but it was tough to get past how overpriced their hot bar apparently is. Person who paid after me had a small container with some cold fruit and was charged nearly $12 - unsurprisingly they were also shocked. Their breakfast sandwich and lunch sandwich menu seems decently priced for the area but their cold/hot bar is definitely not. I should have known better so shame on me, but I'll do my best to never eat here again soon. read more

Like many people that have reviewed this horrible restaurant - it's is much of the same review. The lady at the register has the worst service. She lacks any ounce of customer service. Although they have seating available, no outside food allowed - even if you buy items and other people buy from elsewhere. When asked if we can speak to a manager she said manager is not there but said we can talk to the man by the front saying he's the supervisor (which he said he wasn't). The Asian lady at the cashier is very rude (even in front of and to children) do yourself a favor and stay away from this racist and unprofessional restaurant And then let's not talk about the food that was absolutely cold even though it was on the "warmers"?? I really like this place it has all the food I'd want to eat in quick service form. Do I want a bowl of noodles, done! A salad, go put it together a la Whole Foods. Hot table, got you covered. Made to order breakfast, done. Add a coffee, not batista made but it'll do. Yogurt parfaits, bag of chips or snacks, beer or wine. It's got it all. Now I did dock for quality as while I liked the breakfast I ordered, it still lacked some flavor and finesse. But it's still a good place! read more

This review is specific to the make your own salad and hot bar offering. Two of us had a variety of salads and a few items from the hot bar. None of the hot bar selections (dumplings, chicken breast strips, pork related, mixed vegetables) were warm in the slightest. My spouse could not eat what appeared to be a teriyaki kind of pork item as it was chewy and fatty. The dumplings had no flavor at all. Just to update on my ongoing issues with this place. Its prices and service have not improved, and now they secretly charge a credit/ debit card service fee without letting the customer know. They claimed that the cc company automatically adds the fee to the machine but I call bs. Even if so they are obligated to let the customers know and give them a choice on the payment method. They are of course still charge for a bag every time by default. I don't know why I keep going back other than as a convenience, but this will be the last time. read more

My friend and I stopped in here for a lunch break during a conference in the Hilton Manhattan location that is right across the street. They have a large array of options from hot foods to cold food and snacks. My friend got her meal from the buffet and really enjoyed it. I ended up ordering a cheese burger and fries. It was tasty but not as favorable as I wish. Everything was pippin' hot on order. They originally messed up my burger but they were nice and remade it for me. Think grocer with hot food bar and salad bar in the middle. The food is $8.99/pound and while it's not the best, they have great variety. I had green salad, small amounts of several cold salads, yummy Mac & cheese, fried rice, steamed vegetables, Chinese dishes, and grilled chicken and fish. They also have sushi options and a deli counter where you can have sandwiches made. A lot of options!! Definitely something for everyone, and a breakfast buffet in the mornings as well. We found this deli to be clean, friendly (which is harder than you would think) and reputable. They have prices on their merchandise which allows you to know what you are paying for items. We visited other deli's that charged whatever they were feeling at that moment and as a tourists we were charged more than locals. We stayed at the Hilton recently and this deli was very convenient due to the fact that it was literally across the back alley street from the Hilton downtown. They are open 24 hours so that is a plus. Their food was fresh and there are a lot of selections to meet one's needs. However, the biggest factor for my 2 star review was the employee who works in the very early morning shift. I should have asked his name, but didn't. My elderly mother accidentally spilled her coffee on the floor and was sorry that her hands could not grip the cup very well. When I saw that my mom spilled her coffee, I told one of the employees about it and he looked at the floor and told me "Sheesh... it is TOO EARLY for this." He then proceeded to clean it up, but with an arrogant attitude. I was appalled that it was the kind of reaction I got from a popular, well known deli in Manhattan. It was an accident, mind you, so there was no need to be condescending towards what my mother had done. Please train your employees well enough so that they won't make these types of rude remarks when in reality, we are just customers who are appreciating and supporting your business in every way possible. read more

When you are staying at a midtown hotel it is always best to try to save money on food so you can enjoy the city or save for a big meal. Cafe 53 is located on W 53rd St very close to the NY Hilton and Towers. Take out is available. They have a small grocery store. Set up like a small supermarket it has a hot foods bar where you can fill your plate for $8.99 pound. There is also a salad bar. Don't expect the best here. It is average but still good value for your money. Not overly hungry? A bagel with cream cheese is available for less than $5.00. Specialty sandwiches and wraps are available. They have fresh fruit, beverages, and even cheesecake. Table seating is available if you would prefer to eat in. Just tell them when you pay for your food. Cards are accepted. Place doesn't have WiFi but normally I stop here for breakfast just to avoid paying the high costs at the hotel. They are open pretty much round the clock and it is one of the many cheap eats you can find in the city when you are looking for a place to save a few dollars. read more

Me and my family/friends all went to this restaurant. The lady there kept yelling at us. When we told her if she could stop yelling so the kids could eat she said "I don't care about your kids". The service was completely unprofessional, she even brought some more people to yell at us. Even then she watched us eat through the window because she didn't trust us. So we all went to eat out food somewhere else where we felt comfortable. This is completely unacceptable, you shouldn't yell at people eating especially at kids. In New York for business and met a friend for breakfast. Breakfast at the hotel was a ridiculous $40 per person for a full American breakfast. We went across the street and had two orders of 2 eggs over easy with full hash brown, choice of breakfast meat and toast along with coffee for 2 people and it cost a total of $15. That's the way to go. read more
