Excellent, chilled out breakfast joint in Apollo Bay. They have most anything you would normally expect from a breakfast, brunch, lunch place, and slightly more. We had pancakes, eggs in a variety of ways, and a chicken caesar salad, and all was really good. Staff are friendly and can adjust menu items or make lunch items early if not busy etc. Nice vibe too, both in and out, with really good coffee. It's mostly self serve too with tables. Highly recommended if unsure where to go. read more

Some touristy towns don't offer much in the way of good food but this place was a nice stop on the Great Ocean Road. We were seated immediately, even though it was busy. We received menus and were told to order at the front counter. I perused the desserts and sweets case while waiting for the order, which was being refilled with more tempting treats. Unfortunately, the 30 minute wait made me very impatient, especially as the two orders put in after mine received their dishes. I was hangry! Finally the duck and mushroom risotto arrived with shaved cheese. It was worth the wait, each bite very savoury and fulfilling. The other guests in my group enjoyed their dishes as well - a hearty seafood chowder with bread, lamb souvlaki with fresh salad, and a giant chicken parm burger with chips. It got quiet very quickly at our table. Two people ordered hot tea which came with novel aluminum tea sticks that were not as effective as interesting. Still it gave us something to talk about as we waited for our orders. Aside from the wait, this place hits the mark with good comfort food, a nice selection and a great location near the water. read more

One of the better breakfast/brunch spots on the main drag in Apollo Bay, and therefore it can get busy busy busy on lovely weekend days, especially if there's an event on. If you're excellent at playing the table hover game, you'll be fine snagging a table. (The ones outside are especially coveted.) The rushes seem to happen at mid morning around 10 AM, and then again for lunch around midday. The menu has a really nice selection that's rounded out by specials that sometimes feature local ingredients. I had the pesto-tomato-cream cheese bagel and while it wasn't terribly exciting, it really hit the spot. My guy got the vegie full breakfast and cleaned his plate. Along with a strong flat white (followed by a latte as I was in need of my caffeine crutches that day) it made for a perfect start to the day. The service is no frills, but this is a cruisy sort of town so it doesn't feel off putting to order from the counter and only interact with the staff when they bring you your order. Not really a place to grab a quick coffee as they can really slow down when the place is packed. I'd definitely go again the next time I'm in AB. read more

I don't normally give bad reviews but this place was a little bit of a disappointment. I accommodate my standards to areas but expected more from this place, considering the other reviews I read prior to coming here. For me, I ordered their soup of the day - far too much pepper, the toast that came with it was flattened as though it had been in a sandwich press, instead of nicely toasted in a toasted or under a grill. The concrete floors made the place echo horribly, and to add there were several screaming children which entered during my time which made the experience even more unpleasant (no I'm not the grinch and have a high tolerance for kids, just a multitude of issues with this place that added up). My partner ordered the chowder and liked it (although his first he had ever tried). I did also enjoy the jam doughnuts which were reasonably priced and tasty, however the overall experience was disappointing and left me dissatisfied. Worst customer service EVER!... Never see a restaurant staff can be this rude and unprofessional. When i asked for a raw onion (i know that is uncommon ) , i was coping all facial expressions, mocking,... I can see the kitchen staff making rude comments from the kitchen. I just couldn't believe what i was witnessing. Then a middle aged female staff approached our table to continue to be more disrespectful... all they could have said yes or no and i stated that i would pay extra for it. She pointed Foodworks outside by saying if we want onions we should be going there... instead of apologising on behalf of staff attitude, she defended their behaviour.. that point i decided to cancel my order which was $60+. She became more rude, vocally saying.. " I don't care, you can eat sh.t anywhere else'"..... after all that rudeness..they didn't refund us. Rushed the order and food was on the table in 3 minutes while i was trying to get my money back. 1 star for the owner , whom tried to calm this female staff and apologised to us behalf of them... We as a family here for 3 weeks but they never going to see us again... It all makes sense now .. I should have checked the reviews before I walk in there...UNBELIEVABLE.. read more

It's quite a nice place, however I think that the place could be better with table service. I was also slightly disappointed that the iced chocolate came with a plastic straw, despite the fact that most places now seem to be moving towards paper straws. Aside from that, the iced chocolate was good but we didn't stop for food, so I can't speak about that. There also seem to be many tourists here, like most places in Apollo Bay and so if looking to get away from them, either another town or another place off of the main street (if they exist) would be better! read more

We stopped here for a very late lunch (linner?) on the first day of our stay at Apollo Bay to try something that caught our eye: pork belly burritos. There's no doubt: the pork belly burritos were absolutely delicious. The pork was juicy and the skin was every bit as tasty as I imagined it should be, complemented very well by the tangy sauce they used (sadly I forget what it was, I should have take notes right there and then!). I could've easily eaten another serve, and therein lay the problem -- each serve was a little on the small side for the $15ish asking price. I would have gladly upgraded to a king size for another $5 if one were offered though! This isn't the place to order a bowl of chips ($8) for your little ones to share. To put it simply: the bowls are small. I suppose they are intended as a little side dish to a meal? Get your chips fix instead from the excellent Apollo Bay Seafood Cafe, easily 3-4 times the serving size for the same price -- with chips every bit as good if not better, and excellent fresh fish (the topic of another review). Finally, the green smoothie was unfortunately not that smooth. While the ingredients may be perfectly good and fresh, we suspect they didn't have something like a Vitamix or other serious blender around. Or if they did, they didn't use it on a high setting long enough, because what arrived was still chunky. Some may like this, and that's okay, but we like our smoothie to be, well, more smooth. This is a good place to try out some potentially yummy dishes there seem to be quite a few to enjoy. We only wish they improve the value by upgrading the serving size. As it is, two wraps, a green smoothie, and a small bowl of chips cost $50.50! read more

A short walk from "the Apollo" hotel, Cafe 153 it THE place to go for breakfast. It seems to be rather busy, however with food like this, and excellent coffee, it's understandable why. The buttermilk pancakes with banana are sweet, but not too sweet, the butterscotch sauce is a pleasant inclusion. Hashbrowns were cooked to perfection, and vegetarian breakfast was big, tasty and filling, all prices are moderate for the area, two breakfasts and two large coffees. America to $44. read more

Only came here for coffee, food looked pretty good though. I'm not a coffee snob, however my flat white was bland in taste. The place is big, so I imagine service is good like the other reviews state. read more
