You know that somewhere's good when there is always a queue, and this is one of those places. Its in a prime location for an ice cream parlor in the summer, and in the winter their cakes and a cuppa go down well. Its so much more than just ice-cream in a cone. They have gorgeous waffles and savoury snacks if your not in an ice cream mood. Still the ice-cream is creamy and moreish so worth giving a go. My tip is to head on down in time for sunset, get yourself a seat out front and enjoy the views. read more

This place is great mainly because of its location. An ice cream parlour sticking out over Cardiff Bay on stilts is bound to draw anyone in. The ice cream here, although delicious, does not really have that homemade feel to it that I always expect. But if it's ice cream sundaes and banana splits you're after, this is a great place. Although the company is Welsh through and through, there cafes certainly have an American feel to them. As Anna mentioned, there is unfortunately always a queue. But then that's the same for anywhere that sells ice cream on a warm day. As would be expected, this cafe is usually full of children. It's a great place to bring them, if that's what you're after. But if you were looking for a quieter coffee and a sit down, I would recommend the Norwegian Church. It's worth walking a little bit further. read more

Cadwaladers Cafés is a small Welsh chain best known for its delicious, creamy ice creams, with a fairly extensive range of unusual flavours - all of which are said to contain a secret ingredient. The latest flavour their team is testing is Plum Cheesecake with a ginger nut base, which gives you an idea of how adventurous some of their flavours are... This Cardiff Bay branch is more contemporary than most of their other outlets. Built on a small pier jutting out into the Bay, the café provides panoramic views of the Barrage, the Victorian Pierhead building, the Millennium Centre, and the National Assembly building. It's a great spot on a calm and sunny day, but can be fairly windswept when it's not! While they also serve teas, coffees, and other bits and bobs, it's the ice cream most people flock here for. You can enjoy your ice cream in cones, on waffles, sandwiched in a scone, or with fruit and syrup - but however you have it, it's very good quality. It's a hot day, your down the bay and you want some cool refreshing ice cream. Cadwaladers has a variety of flavours and the location is bizarre, it sits on a peer jutting out from the busy street. Busy every time I've been there, you'll have to queue so expect to wait 5minutes. It feeds your desert desires, it's a shame there's a lack of seating. The shop is small so don't expect to get a seat just because you're a paying customer. There's something a bit odd about this one like it's a ice cream van without the ability to move. I like to try a variety of ice creams and Cadwaladers certainly has variety and taste. read more

Nice ice cream parlor on the water. Line was out the door. You can pick flavors, cones flavor, then toppings. I had Orange Ripple (basically Orange Cream), Sticky Toffee Pudding, and Banana Ripple (banana ice cream with chocolate sauce). They were very good. Creamy and rich. With outside seating as well, it definitely makes for a very relaxing place to sit back and enjoy a delicious dessert. ~ Customer Service: One downside I feel. When my partner and I walked in, there was one girl at the counter who was scooping some ice cream. Yeah I understand she was busy, but she actually didn't even acknowledge us apart from a glance. After a good 5 minutes of us just awkwardly standing there, she finally said in a bored tone "be right with you" but it didn't even ended up being her who helped us... but someone just standing on the other side organising stuff who finaly showed up. ~ Food: I ordered a Coke Float (with Diet Coke) and my partner had a Hot Belgian Waffle. I was out in Cardiff for the day on a works jolly and we opted to meet here as we were going on about trip right next to the place. It's stuck out on a little pier and is pretty dated, but actually that didn't really matter as it kind of added to that 'quaint' vibe. Things instantly went down hill when my colleague asked to use the toilet...they don't have one! She was politely directed to the nearest public toilet which was apparently fine, but for me if you serve food and drink you must have a toilet! I only had coffee which was really nice. A few other opted for pastries and cakes which look nothing special but we're apparently very nice. I liked this place but it was nothing special and lacked a bit of something different and a toilet! read more

For all ice cream lovers out there give this sheek little ice cream cafe a try. I have been here so many time. In the summer there is nothing nicer than sitting outside looking out onto the bay enjoying one og the biggest ice cream sundaes I have every seen. The list of different sundeas endless, I usually opt for the strawberry sundae followed by a hot chocolate with marshmellows. I know the calorie intake is super high but sometimes a girl needs to kick back and relax. The last time I went here I made my order then realised I had forgotten my purse. I was expecting them to take my ice cream back until I could find a way to pay but they didn't. They were more than happy for me to finish my treat and then go to the bank to withdraw some cash. P.S If you havent got a sweet tooth this cafe also serves savoury snacks. I havent tried these myself but if they are anything like the sweet selection on offer they will also be super duper! One last thing I am sure they take cards but they have a minimum spend threshold! read more

There is a vast array of flavours here and even frozen yoghurt, which I should opt for but I always give in to the creamy ice cream. This establishment is situated over looking the water of the bay on a little pier, perfect for getting that little bit closer to the cool waters. The bay is a lovely place to go for a nice walk and there is nothing better than going for a spot of lunch and then popping over to Cadwaladers and taking 15 minutes trying to decide what flavour to go for. Cadwaladers is one of my favourite places to frequent whenever I'm down at Cardiff Bay, this is because it serves ice cream and lots of it. You can get it in little paper tubs or in cones, I tend to be tempted by the cone they do that is covered in chocolate and hundreds and thousands sprinkled over all over. Maybe you'll be able to resist, though I doubt that very much. The variety available is the big draw of this ice cream parlour, that and the fact that someone that doesn't know Cadwaladers will be intrigued by how large the crowd is that's gathering around this shop on the end of a pier. It isn't cheap, but it is really good quality ice cream that will continue to be a treat for me if I'm ever around the area. read more

Whoever thought to put a Cadwaliders cafe in the Maermaid Quay is an absolute genius. The ice cream at Cadewaliders is simply the best and every ice cream that is scooped just tastes fantastic. For me it doesn't even have to be a hot day I would still make the pilgrimage down to the Bay It is a bit of a shame that there isn't enough room to sit down as there are other Cadwalider cafes around Wales that have quite spacious seating area (or so I've heard). Cadwaliders also sells the low calorie alternative of frozen yogurt which does taste pretty good, but if I'm honest unless I'm being incredibly weight conscious I will still stick to the ice cream! read more

I must say I'm not much of an ice cream fan, but this little parlor on the end of a disused landing pontoon is great. There are so many flavors to choose from and you can even choose what type of flake you want in it! As well as ice cream they serve a menu of your typical lunchtime food which can be eaten in their seating area whilst watch yachts race in the bay. However, as mentioned in th other reviews, in the summer queues for a taste of their amazing ice cream are ridiculous so don't attempt to go if it's a blistering hot bank holiday! read more

I had the salted caramel popcorn ice cream which was great. We were there on a quiet Sunday afternoon in offseason but the service was still very slow. Wandering around the bay and fancying a sit down (old man), I joined the short que and was served in no time by a smiling young girl, after looking at the wide range of choice, I decided to plump for the Choc-chip cookie option, a good choice I'm sure you'll agree. Then as it was a nice day I took a seat outside and watched the boat trips around the bay arrive back with confused looking tourists "Was Cardiff always nice?". The answer to that can be argued but this little gem is certainly nice and provides a lovely pit-stop for anyone exploring Cardiff bay. Not only are the prices more than reasonable but the location is unique; there are not many ice cream parlours that invite customers to walk across a bridge to get there but the walk is worth it and so is the ice cream. read more

This gorgeous little ice cream parlour set just out on the water of Cardiff Bay could not be any cuter. On a summers day, it is the place to be. They offer such a wide range of ice cream flavours, drinks and a few hot and cold lunch time snacks. It Can get very busy in the summer and queue's can get pretty ridiculous. that's why I love coming here on really cold days when everything is grey and miserable and sitting in the deserted venue and sipping the hot chocolate special which is basically, a cup of heaven! But if you are lucky enough to get a seat on the terrace around the month of July it is a real pleasure, listening to the water clash softly against the sides of the parlour, and feeling the warmth of the sun warming your body while you lick a fruity ice cream is pure relaxation. read more

I had the pleasure of stopping by here when I took my daughter to Cardiff Bay. There was plenty of choices of ice cream availble. The place was very clean and the staff was friendly. Super icecream parlour positioned on a short pontoon in Cardiff Bay. Not a great deal of seats available, particularly if it is too cold or wet to sit outside. This is just the right position in the summer to sit on their narrow balcony, enjoying the sunshine and people watching. The downside to the sun shining is the long queues to buy this delicious icecream. When you eventually get to the front of the queue you are faced with an excellent selection of flavours. There is also a choice of cones and how much icecream you would like. They also do some delicious deserts which combine fresh fruit and icecream. I have watched while 2 people share a huge bowlful of fruit and icecream. When the sun isnt shining it is a good place to sit behind glass with a hot drink. I can recommend the hot chocolate. Lunchtime there is a small selection of snacky meals. This is a very popular stop when visiting the bay. read more

The ice creams in this place are absolutely gorgeous and they have an extensive range of flavours. The parlour is a little small but there is seating inside and on the balcony around the place. It is definitely worth a visit. In the summer there is always queues which I don't mind but the main negative I have about this place is you can't see the menu until its your turn to be served thus causing the waiting time to be longer than necessary. The menu needs to be placed high up so people can decide what they want whilst they are queueing. read more
