As I get older, sports injuries mean something different. Like injuring yourself while sneezing. Or…read moresleeping the wrong way. Or sitting on an angle for too long. They won't be Olympic sports anytime soon but the pulls, strains, and inflammation I've managed to inflict upon myself in decidedly non-athletic endeavours keep leading me back to this place. Years ago, they treated and cured a knee injury I thought ended my running habit forever. Ever since that experience with this clinic, I've been a strong believer in physiotherapy. The Beaches Athletes Care location always delivers spot-on diagnoses, strengthening exercises you can (and must) do at home, and in-clinic treatment that sets you firmly on your healing journey. They have brought me back to full strength for my knees, a pulled calf muscle, a rotator cuff injury, hamstring strain, and a turned ankle. The only thing they haven't healed is my caustic wit (untreatable). Every therapist I've had there was rock solid, Carly being the most recent. Online booking system is very convenient. App for exercises makes it easy to remember and follow the prescribed routines. Tell 'em where it hurts, put in the work, and you'll end up stronger than before you were injured.

Avoid at all costs. Their practitioners may look good on paper but they don't deliver; I tried…read moremassage, chiro and their sports doctor. it was incredibly frustrating. I was warned not to go there but I thought it would be ok. it was not okay. Add to that, their practitioners are really condescending.

The Danforth

Due to missing a couple of steps on the stairs and landing on top of my right foot (see ugly…read morephotos) I have been out of commission for a while. I did some research and discovered Synergy Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and liked that it was near the subway and that people in the neighbourhood recommended it so highly. I showed up in a medical boot with laryngitis (which I got the day before, damn it) so I wrote up all the details so my physiotherapist Jesse Awenus could get a good take on my particular situation since I literally could not speak for myself. I will admit that when I showed up that it was not just my ankle and throat that were broken. I hated walking in there so 100% vulnerable but it had been three weeks since I hurt my foot and it was no longer improving at all. As someone with fibromyalgia, any little injury can mean long term problems so I was just heartbroken. Jesse took my situation very seriously and was compassionate but tough in his belief that I can heal. His treatment was excellent and the exercises I went home with for homework were very effective. I went from being scared to do anything to make the situation worse to confidently working through the discomfort to build strength. He is clearly a highly trained healer that took my sorry grumpy pants ass and made me believe I could walk again. The photo with me wearing the black shoes was taken the first day I went for a walk without the boot, just a couple of weeks after treatment. I even felt comfortable enough for him to do manual manipulation which ended up realigning my foot dramatically. If I could afford to keep going every week, I would. Jesse did his best with the time and budget I had to get me walking again which I am! I even went on the subway yesterday for the first time. I have been to a lot of physiotherapist. I have never had a more positive experience. The space is bright, the people are friendly and the treatment is beyond impeccable. My only complaint is having to climb those stairs to get to Jesse's office but because the work he did was so impressive I will not hold that against the clinic. That said, there do seem to be offices on the main floor so please make sure that if you have severe mobility issues to call ahead to make sure the stairs will not be an issue. Thanks to Synergy Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation I can now get back to my foodie reviews! For the first time in a long time I have hope in my ability to heal. After being on an 18-year healing journey since my fibro diagnosis, that is, quite frankly, a miracle. ~ Suzie The Foodie

I started going to Synergy Sports Medicine on the recommendation of a friend who was also helped at…read morethe clinic. I was suffering from both neck and knee pain. Within a few sessions I was feeling so much better. The staff at Synergy cares about what they do and wants to help the patients. My therapist took the time to ask me all kinds of questions about why I was there and what my specific goals were for seeking out physiotherapy. They did hands on manual therapy to ease tension in my back and neck, explained to me why I was having the pain and what I could do about it on my own. I really loved that my physio took the time to send me an email link with a customized home exercise program videos that I could easily follow on my own. All in all the clinic experience has been the best I have experienced. One more great thing is that the clinic is within a 2 minute walk of the Woodbine subway station and is right on Danforth.
