Having sold our large family home we were in wait mode for our new home build to be completed. John and Danielle were so gracious as we extended our stay plus moved to a larger casita to spread out a bit more. The casita (#6) had everything we needed. Two bedrooms, two baths, a full kitchen, dining room, and sizable comfortable living room. Our Dog Cooper enjoyed the freedom of the back yard plus nightly walks around the sizable property. While we didn't use the pool it looked inviting and had a nice cabana resort feel with lots of shade and lounges with curtains to divide sections for privacy. We will be recommending this lovely historical resort to all our friends. Check it out, it's a hidden gem but it won't stay hidden for long! Comfy beds with ample closet space in each room plus an overstuffed chair to relax in. Good lighting all throughout the home. Nearby activities ヘ Central to all Sabino Canyon activities as well as a trek up to Mount Lemon, not far to go for a fun outing downtown. Walkability Little too hot during our stay (july/aug) to venture outside the property on foot, but we enjoyed sunrise and sunset walks around the property pretty much daily. Food & drinks Beautiful setting. Trees in particular are absolutely stunning! Large grassy area for outdoor fun, lots of covered space for large events or family gatherings, nice walking paths, ample lighting and it appeared every casita had some level of personal yard space which is priceless when traveling with a pet or kids. Fun history on the welcome book to deepen the sensation of being part of the life the resort initially started with as one of Tucson's original ranches so many decades ago.

The owners are helpful and available for whatever you may need. The grounds are phenomenal and beautifully kept. There is so much to do, from Pickleball to swimming or the life-size chess board (right near the hammocks). It's gated, it's private, and they even have an EV charging station. I could write a novel about all the wonderful things, and I cannot wait to go back. And for those of us who hate bringing dirty clothes home in our suitcases, they have two (2) laundry rooms! While inquiring about the facilities and then leading-up to (and even during) our stay, Colin and Roy's communication was professional, informative and timely every time. Once we arrived, a welcome packet was waiting for us. It outlined the various amenities that were supplied, an explanation of the grounds, a breakfast menu, and their favorite local restaurants that were either vegan or catered heavily to vegans. At one point during the correspondence, my boyfriend mentioned that we would be visiting during his birthday month, and that detail was not missed. Waiting on the dining table was a fresh bouquet of flowers and a birthday card. The rooms were spotless, the shower was amazing and the living space was very comfortable, almost like home. They even supplied some vegan reading material along with information about the local sights. Also, Colin and Roy tried to make Rancho Vegano as environmentally friendly as possible (which I applaud), from the bamboo sheets to the silverware. The only "gripe" we had, was the silverware. While eco responsible, it was a bit flimsy when trying to use and I was worried that I'd break the forks. They acknowledged the feedback and they mentioned that they'll probably switch to metal silverware in the future. Each morning we were entertained by local wildlife as we had our delicious and fluffy blueberry pancakes and a breakfast burrito stuffed with veggies with chipotle sour cream and a side of fruit. Both meals were delicious and kept us full for our day's journeys. There were a few occasions where I got to talk with Roy as he was tending to their grounds. Listening to their backstory and journey to veganism, their passion and dreams for what they want Rancho Vegano to evolve to is quite infectious. I can't wait to see how they expand Rancho Vegano. On our last morning, Colin and Roy invited us to have our breakfast up on their rooftop deck. The view was amazing and was the perfect start for our journey home. They also baked us fresh banana bread for the road, which was thoroughly devoured. Our only regret was not staying there longer, but it gives us an excuse to venture back. Rancho Vegano is slice of paradise in East Tucson and we look forward to our next stay.

This is our fave quick getaeay from San Diego - and it's our third stay at the Cat Mountain - twice in the Inn building and once at the Lodge building across the road. My husband especially likes how dark the property is for stargazing on a clear night. The property is quiet, comfy, nice communal areas, shared fridge, cookie jar, microwave. Be sure to take leisurely walks and relax outside in all their nicely set up lounging areas. And for breakfast or lunch...right there across the street, or a short walk down the road is the Coyote Paws Cafe. Included in your room rate is a $15 voucher per person that goes toward your meal. We usually come in just under or only owing a dollar or two, plus tip - what a deal and soooo much better than the big box hotels and their cheap powdered eggs, high carb, greasy buffets. This is a sit-down, simple but yummy cafe and everyone there is working hard and attentive.Sometimes, it can get busy, but even with a short wait, we are in/out in just over an hour or so. In 15min or so, are in the heart of downtown Tucson. But it's sooo much nicer to be out by the mountains, cactus, and peace and quiet. We come for the Gaslight Theater live shows...and if Cat Mountain was full when we would try to reserve, we would choose another date to see the show as we truly don't want to stay anywhere else but here when we come to town. This bed and breakfast, located next to the Saguaro Forest outside of town, has only two bedrooms. You get one, and your hosts, Dan and Linda, take the other, and do everything to make your stay pleasant. The beautifully decorated house and wonderful land is at your disposal. We rented the hacienda for our wedding and Dan and Linda went out of their way to create a special atmosphere. Not only did they re-landscape the property to accommodate our ceremony and party, painstakingly relocating dozens of penstemons and cactus and cutting back the undergrowth to prevent unintended encounters with wildlife, they even got the phone company to remove some old telephone poles they thought might spoil the view. Our guests enjoyed a heavenly vision of the moon rising over the Tucson mountains as we said our vows. Dan and Linda took care of all the rentals, getting the tables, linens, and other necessities, coordinated with the caterers, and offered valet parking to our guests. They don't host too many weddings, so count yourself lucky if they agree to do yours. Also, be pretty specific about the details. There was, at times, some confusion regarding what they had agreed to do and what we needed to hire others to do. Ultimately, however, our wedding was just perfect. You couldn't ask for a more beautiful location: it's a paragon of the Sonoran Dessert. In the morning, Linda will bring you coffee or tea, as you choose, and Dan will cook breakfast at whatever time you require, to any taste or dietary restriction. If you enjoy dogs, their lovely pets, Bella and Gomez, will clamor for your attention and make you feel special. (If you do not enjoy dogs, they will be restricted to another room.) Take your breakfast in the garden, where hundreds of birds (in season) will hop around for your delight. We saw a hummingbird during our wedding reception, and quails, cardinals, doves, and woodpeckers while we ate omelets and potatoes. We stayed in Uno, and we loved the large private patio with beautiful views. We spent hours watching the birds and wildlife from the patio. Steinen is a lovely, warm host, and we enjoyed talking with her. The breakfasts are wonderful and very filling.
