I just stayed at Cherry Valley for a few days for the Tucson Marathon, and I can't recommend it…read morehighly enough. The desert hills in the area are incredibly beautiful, and since the ranch is 100 acres, it feels almost completely undeveloped while you're staying there. The house also has gorgeous views of the surrounding hills. The rooms are well-decorated, very clean, and have a personal feeling and charm that you can't get in a hotel or motel. I stayed in the Manzanita room and found everything very comfortable and spacious. Finally, the owner is very warm and friendly. She made me breakfast just how I wanted it, gave me aloe for my race-induced blisters, and was generally wonderful company for the relatively little time I spent out in the living room. She was also very welcoming when I arrived despite it being 1:45 in the morning due to a delayed flight and getting a little lost on the way. Note: The front gate has a pretty small sign that can be easy to miss at night, but it's right across from a prominent sign at the entrance to Oracle State Park.

Finally my wife and I had a chance to be guests of the Cherry Valley Ranch. The day was perfect as one of the frequent monsoons had passed by and left the temperature of the Ranch in the low daytime 80s and quite a bit cooler at night. We stayed in one of the Casitas' for a night and enjoyed the peaceful valley and cool night temperatures. The breakfast was a very delightful mix of Mexican dishes and fruit prepaired by a local chef. As for the accommodations I suggest that there are times when not having TV, WIFI and other amenities are just what a stress releasing weekend is all about. Loved the place

You can venture out from your room to hike or simply enjoy one of the many patio areas to watch birds and squirrels. We stayed in "the nest" which was a smaller but beautiful room with a 4-post bed. The bed itself was quite comfortable though a bit squeaky. The room was clean, comfortable, roomy, and came with everything we needed to enjoy a quiet evening away from the kids. We brought food to make a gourmet campfire dinner and enjoyed the BBQ set up and fire pit. Breakfast was provided and while we did not care for the prepped quiche (tasted like a slice of pizza) we enjoyed the apple crisp and yoghurt parfait and the gesture alone! The grounds are well-kept and ideal for birders, nature lovers, and adults in general. While the close-knit atmosphere is not the place for a honeymoon or rekindling romance, it is perfect for a small relaxing getaway or the place to start your Big Year!

It was our third stay at the inn and Luis and Nancy were as hospitable as ever and the accommodations met every expectation we had. The setting is amazing and the hiking is fantastic, but only if you like treking straight up! Mt. A truly amazing respite and we'll definitely be back thanks to the owners and staff at the inn.

What a find! Historic cabins on an art ranch - so different from the usual sterile hotel…read moreenvironment, but with artistic and modern comfort! It's a unique way to fill your soul with the beauty of the high desert and uplifting art. It combines stand-alone cabins from another era with an adjacent outdoor sculpture park and art gallery - one of a kind accommodations with a one of a kind experience. We stayed in the bunkhouse and the cabin on our recent girls' trip. You might wonder if you made the right choice when you turn onto the dirt road to the ranch, but this is the true old west without paved roads. Funny how much your heart responds to leaving asphalt behind! I stayed in the original ranch bunkhouse built of adobe mud in the 1880's, restored now with modern comforts. The Old West vibe is still there but so is air conditioning, a comfy king-sized bed, small kitchen, and, of course, plumbing. Also present is the all-important WIFI. The bedside lamps even have USB ports to charge your phones while you sleep. It hits just the right balance of old, quaint, artistic and unobtrusively modern. There's a small couch, rocking chair, and large screened-in porch and more. I don't know how the original occupants kept it, but it was immaculate (this aspect earned high marks by us all). We were busy on this trip supporting our runner in an ultramarathon up nearby Mount Lemmon so we didn't get to enjoy all the many special touches as much as we wanted to such as the many outdoor cozy seating spots under trees. We also wish we'd had time to get to know my neighbors behind the bunkhouse - a couple of quiet but curious goats. Throughout our stay, we didn't hear them nor anyone else staying there. It was like having our own little getaway in the high desert. The Triangle L is also an Art Ranch. The Sculpture Park alone is not to be missed! It would be worth the trip in itself and made a big impression on us even though we did not have time to explore it all. Some sculptures even have special night lighting. You could spend hours here appreciating it as you walk along its path, which lends its own sculptures of uniquely-shaped, high desert cacti. If interested , we recommend checking out the web site for a preview and look for the many special events. They just opened up a "Metal" exhibit in the old adobe barn converted into an Art Gallery and Gift Shop. The Triangle L is located in Oracle - a small town that we found to be full of traditional small town friendliness from its unique restaurants to its shops selling their own art and jewelry pieces. We learned why the new looking Nonna Maria's has been in business for 25+ years - their marinara and pizza are outstanding. I had a great turkey and avocado croissant sandwich at the Patio Cafe and their adjacent Market sells all kinds of baked goods, including more types of pies than I've ever seen before. We enjoyed breakfast at Casa Rivera's but we ran out of time before we got to try the Riot Grill, which we'd also heard good things about. Most restaurants here are owner-operated so be sure to check their hours before going. Oracle is about 2 hours from Phoenix and only 1 hour from Tucson. It sits in the high desert so offers somewhat cooler weather than both of them. There are many nearby trails for hiking besides those our runner was doing in the Desert Peak Ultramarathon event, including those in Oracle State Park. There is also access to the Arizona National Scenic Trail (AZT). We met lots of cyclists as well. In between supporting our runner at the aid stations, I also made a trip to the nearby Biosphere 2. It is also worth a trip. It was created as a completely sealed off ecological system to test out what would be needed to build independent self-contained stations capable of life for future space colonization. In the 90's, 8 scientists were sealed in it along with various plants and animals for 2 years. Now, it functions as an ecological research station. The scope is amazing. For instance, I walked through its rainforest, complete with waterfall and tall tree canopy and even saw its small ocean. So much technology is needed to support it - we have much to learn before space life is possible. The tour is self-guided by well-done videos through an app but there are three additional guided tours. Note: there are some parts that can only be accessed by stairs. OK, I got a little carried away with this review of the Triangle L Ranch. The Triangle L Ranch and Art Ranch seems to be a well-kept secret that I just didn't want people to miss. It and the surrounding area really struck a chord with us. Also, our hostess (and resident artist) went above and beyond for us, accommodating our changing reservations and our late arrival with an inventive sign to help point us to our cabins. We certainly hope we get to meet her sometime as we definitely hope to come back - if it isn't booked for years in advance once the word gets out.

This is our fave quick getaeay from San Diego - and it's our third stay at the Cat Mountain - twice in the Inn building and once at the Lodge building across the road. I don't think you can go wrong with either building or any room!! All the beds have been comfy, everything clean, great heating or A/C as needed, free parking, GREAT grounds to walk around, explore and relax in. My husband especially likes how dark the property is for stargazing on a clear night. The property is quiet, comfy, nice communal areas, shared fridge, cookie jar, microwave. Be sure to take leisurely walks and relax outside in all their nicely set up lounging areas. And for breakfast or lunch...right there across the street, or a short walk down the road is the Coyote Paws Cafe. Included in your room rate is a $15 voucher per person that goes toward your meal. We usually come in just under or only owing a dollar or two, plus tip - what a deal and soooo much better than the big box hotels and their cheap powdered eggs, high carb, greasy buffets. This is a sit-down, simple but yummy cafe and everyone there is working hard and attentive.Sometimes, it can get busy, but even with a short wait, we are in/out in just over an hour or so. In 15min or so, are in the heart of downtown Tucson. But it's sooo much nicer to be out by the mountains, cactus, and peace and quiet. We come for the Gaslight Theater live shows...and if Cat Mountain was full when we would try to reserve, we would choose another date to see the show as we truly don't want to stay anywhere else but here when we come to town. You won't regret staying here!!!

Longtime residents/innkeepers Tom & Mary Jane are warm, hospitable, knowledable, discreet hosts, happy to chat if you want to and tell you all the local lore, also happy to give you space. Tom is an excellent gourmet chef & each breakfast is different. The main house is cozy adobe with a huge stone fireplace. Beds are comfortable w/good mattress. There's a mini fridge to store food and a microwave and 'common area' with hot coffee & a great selection of teas. The flagstone patio is excellent for dreaming, bird-watching, (it's a hot birdwatching place w/great biodiversity & right on some bird migration paths), star-gazing, and watching the sun go down with a glass of wine. The property lies off a dirt road, with excellent hiking, biking, and running trails and streams (at least in spring) so feels quite remote, but it's also about 3 miles from the little town of Patagonia. This is perfect for a couples getaway (there are two free-standing casitas plus a main lodge) but also for families and it's dog-friendly. They have a donkey and a horse who love snacks and an excellent library of books to read. It also seems to draw like-minded souls as the other guests we met over our 3-day stay were lovely, respectful, quiet, and as grateful and amazed as we were to have found this charmed hideway.
