Communication is huge for me, and from the moment I reached out to Pamela, she has been quickly responsive, communicative, and always takes the time to answer questions. Nature school provides so many wonderful outside of the box learning opportunities (for the kids, but also for me!). They learn through play and observation and teamwork, and in the 5 months my daughter has attended, I've noticed her communication about feelings and body awareness has really improved, as well as her problem solving skills. I was certainly a little nervous to send my daughter out in the rain, but I have to say, the rainy days have truly been her favorite school days! The kids LOVE to play in the mud! My toddler likes to hang out and play too! It really is true what they say; if you are properly clothed the weather doesn't seem so bad. The pick up/drop off location is breathtakingly beautiful and I feel pretty grateful that I get to experience it alongside my kids. And the best part for me? The teachers send a weekly report, complete with pictures, about what they all did throughout the week. They include the songs they sang, the mindfulness activities, quotes from the kids, the books they read, etc. I look forward to it every week. I hope that I can encourage more families to try it out, because this school is a blessing.

I was surprised at how much they do for the children. It wasn't immediately known to me all the activities that the kids do during the day. They do many art projects, zoophonics, healthy habits, yoga, walks around town, trips to the library etc. Wish I'd known this before, it would have made the selection a no-brainer. The teachers are very nurturing and caring. My daughter just loves her school and I'm very happy she's there and that they do a wonderful job. My daughter started transitional Kindergarten (TK) at Highlands Elementary last year. Prior to…read morestarting, I had hoped to get her into Baywood Elementary given its reputation. When I went to Baywood's parents' meeting for incoming students, I asked the school principal how teachers accommodated students who were more advanced. Her response was that Baywood was a public school. If I wanted to make sure my advanced TK child (who could already read and do addition) was challenged, I should take her to a private school. Though that is always an option and though finances is not an issue for us, we preferred the public school system for its diversity of students (which we think is an equally important academic factor). Furthermore, public schools are compared based on national tests which private schools are not. We do not want to pay for an education that does not have tangible comparisons. We decided go to Highlands for TK last year which was a wonderful experience. This year, we have been fortunate enough to have Ms. Krueger for our kindergarten teacher. We have been so impressed with her. She has gone above and beyond our expectation to keep my daughter academically challenged and engaged. In addition to getting her involved with her peers in fun class activities, she has also prepared a separate teaching plan for my daughter given she reads at the 2nd grade level and does math in the 1st grade level, well above her peers (instead of forcing her to learn the alphabets which she already knows). Additionally, she is also trying to get her into HIghland's school paid program for accelerated readers which is meant for 2nd graders in order to keep her engaged. We are so glad we decided to go to Highlands Elementary!

Both my siblings had this teacher for 4th grade and the youngest one has informed me that, to add the cherry on top of two years of constant unprofessionalism and disrespect, he tossed her report card to the floor and told her to pick it up in front of the rest of the class. This is after constantly leaving her out of things, going out of his way to ignore her, and this was similar behavior given to my younger brother last year when he was in this man's class. I don't want to fully point fingers, but the fact that he is an older white male picking on latinx children and other students of similar and very different backgrounds, while heavily favoring female students from what not only my siblings told me but their friends as well, is severely concerning.

There are blocks and a play kitchen, all kinds of things to engage the young mind and encourage imagination and social play. The classroom is clean and well organized. You can't beat the location. I was able to send the 5yo to the CCP preschool while my older son attended 2nd grade at Farallone View. Drop-off and pick-up was so easy because I only had to make one stop! I'm just sorry we weren't able to attend CCP for longer.

We just had some friends transfer their child to Picasso from one of the other local highly acclaimed preschools and they are blown away by how great the teachers and kids are at Picasso. All the kids get along, there is no fighting, the kids are polite, etc. I have literally spent hundred of hours there over the last few years and am amazed at the kids at Picasso. This is not a coincidence - the kids are great because the direction, care, and instruction they are receiving is top notch. On a superficial note, I agree with the other reviewer that the facility itself could use some cosmetic upgrades, but the location is hard to beat - the children get to play outside with a view up and down the entire San Mateo coast. I would suggest that if you want to check out Picasso you bring your child there for a few hour trial run and see how they do. Having spent plenty of time on the playground watching kids play I can confirm that the teachers are not helicopter teachers out there because they don't have to be - the kids are well behaved and fantastic - now if I could just get my kids to be as well behaved at home : ). As a side note, Picasso is a feeder school for many of the top private schools in the area should you want to continue in private school for primary school. I know that both Seacrest on the coast, and Notre Dame in Belmont find Picasso kids to be well prepared.

Specifically the principle Mr. Clinton is killing it. Communications are effective and clear, there is obvious attention to keeping the school clean and taking pride in the grounds. Our counselor, Janice Lee is easy to reach, accommodated our daughters needs, and all of the teachers clearly care about kids education. Also, kids are a nightmare at this age and we see an appearance of curbing the bullying that is common in middle school. We're happy we stuck with the public school system. Woot!
