I came here awhile back to try some tacos after hearing some great things. Sometimes I wish I could go into some places without any preconceived notions because I did have high hopes and I think I was a bit let down, but on an absolute scale it's a decent spot and meal. I arrived around 630pm on a Friday and got seated immediately. I had a couple glasses of wine while my friend got beer. We ordered a variety of tacos (shrimp, chicken etc) which came out fast and were a good portion of protein. Overall the ambience was nice although somebody did come in panhandling and was asked to leave shortly after. Value wise it's pretty consistent with the area. It was my first experience here in probably over a decade. I always had enjoyed the place previously. I went this time on a Thursday night. It was not too busy. The service was fine. I received my chips and salsa and drink, and I ordered some of the white fish tacos. When I received the tacos, the meat was almost all breading- like those little crispy pieces that fall into the fryer, but have no substance. I doubt I had 2 ounces of protein between 2 tacos that cost $15. It's a shame. The flavors were actually good. But what was being passed as fish was ridiculous. read more

Our waiter seemed a bit out of it, kind of like he was on some sort of substance. We had to repeat ourselves often, he messed up my drink order and brought me something completely different from what I ordered. Anyway.. We were given some chips and dip when we were seated. I ended up just ordering chips and queso for my meal along with a cocktail. I was served the queso, but no additional chips.... I had to call the server back over and ask him if my order was supposed to come with chips, he looked at the chips we were given when we first were seated, which we've already been eating on and asked if I wanted more chips... I'm thinking to myself, if someone orders queso wouldn't it come with chips?!?!? One basket of chips for two people to share as a courtesy appetizer makes sense, but if one is purchasing a appetizer it should come with chips and dip... Although Cabo Fish Taco is located in a charming Bohemian neighborhood, my experience was limited to takeout only. The tacos are offered two to an order with a side. We ordered Grilled Salmon tacos and Ahi tacos with black beans with rice and Avocado/Pasta salad. In addition, we ordered two Baja-style white fish tacos over cabbage and the salsa trio. We were at an art show in NoDa, so we asked a local artist where to go for lunch. Great recommendation! We arrived just past noon on a Saturday, and we were seated immediately. The chips and house-made salsa were great. The salsa had corn, which was an unusual but fun touch. I enjoyed my shrimp tacos with a side of rice and beans (and more corn). The tacos come with flour tortillas. You can get corn tortillas, but that option isn't on the menu. You just have to ask. The menu also doesn't tell you that the tacos and burritos come with a choice of one side. My friend liked his shrimp and chicken burrito, too. It was huge, and he ate the whole thing. Service was quick, but it could have been much more friendly. On the plus side, my water glass was never empty. When we first walked in, the music at the door was very loud. It was a lot calmer inside, though. This was the perfect choice for our first time in NoDa, and I look forward to going back! read more

If it is Mexican food you are craving for, you are better off going somewhere else. The food is a bit bland from their rice and beans to the actual entree itself. I had ordered the carne asada burrito where the only thing I could taste was the tortilla and peppers. The steak was chewy but not seasoned at all. I will say the plantains were the best part of my meal. The wasabi was very noticeable, but not overwhelming. The salmon was fresh and tender as well. GREAT taco. Fried Flounder Taco (5/5): Perfectly fried! The batter didn't overwhelm the fish so it still felt light while providing some fried flavor and texture. It also wasn't too salty which I really appreciated. The jalapeno tartar sauce was nice as well but could've been a bit spicier. I liked the slaw as well. *Daily special Blackened Mahi Mahi Taco (5/5): Light and refreshing. The fish was tender and I loved the blackened flavor. Grilled Lemon Ahi Tuna Taco (4/5): Simple and tasty. I live in Concord now. So sometimes these amazing places slip my mind. And that sucks. Except... I get to 'rediscover' them! Had to run an errand down the street and passed by. And my lizard brain made my feets turn on their own. Suddenly I was at the bar nothing on chips and salsa. Yummy! And staring down a long list of tacos and margaritas. Garlic shrimp. Yes. The staff here is AMAZING. I'm pregnant & dined here in Mother's Day with my family and fainted suddenly. The staff immediately jumped in & called 911, looked after my son who was scared & panicked & made sure my dog didn't escape. They made sure I had everything I needed and was beyond helpful. They treated us more like family rather than customers. I was so grateful for their help . They even insisted on us not paying for our meal. On top of that the food was AMAZING. Not sure if we came on an off day but our visit, food, and drinks were just okay. Nothing amazing but also not terrible. My husband ordered Thai shrimp burrito and the Congelado (which is a frozen margarita) as his drink choice. He really enjoyed his food and rated it as a 4. I ordered a chicken quesadilla which was okay. But my drink, Azularita, was not good. Not even sure what was wrong other than it just didn't taste great. If I could give 0 stars I would. We came on a Tuesday or Wednesday for lunch. When we walked in we were standing around for a bit since I guess no one noticed us but the sign says wait to be seated so we did. We finally get spotted and someone brings us to a table. Our waitress seems to take her time to come to us when there only 3 other people in the entire restaurant. We ordered the guacamole. Horrible. I asked if it was made in house because it tasted and looked like the ones you get at the grocery store. She said it was made onsite and they deconstruct it and then you add in the toppings. For $11 I don't feel like making it myself which is why I'm at a restaurant thanks so much. I thought this place would be good considering the one in Blacksburg used to be. We order our mains and I get a burrito and my friend gets the tuna taco and the tofu. Here was disgusting. No seasoning on anything. Very much white people mexican food. And ridiculously over priced. Friendly neighborhood restaurant with southern hospitality. They're known for their seafood tacos as clearly stated by their name. I ordered their lime shrimp tacos and their calamari. The tacos were excellent and came with your choice of sides, I got the plantains. Shrimp was plump and juicy and tortilla was really good too, loved the toppings also. My wife and I stopped in with our kids to get our favorite, Tavarua Tuna Tacos. It's a tradition now, as we moved away from Charlotte but visit during holidays and always make the trip to Cabo. Unfortunately, this year, we both got very sick. My symptoms started within minutes after eating, I got very red, top half of my body was a hot rash and severe headache. I went straight to the urgent care in Noda where they provided treatment but encouraged me to be transported to the hospital in fear it would slow my breathing. My wife's symptoms started the next day, mild rash and headache. By my own research, I believe we contracted Scombroid Fish Poisoning. What frustrates me is that I called to let a manger know and she said, "I'm sorry that happened but we use fresh fish and go through so much of it that it couldn't be due to food poisoning." Cabo would always get 5 stars from me and would have, had I not had this experience. Perhaps someone will read this and evaluate how this could have happened. read more

Been stopping here for 14 years, each time we are in Charlotte. I always get the Honey Soy Salmon Taco, have never wanted to try anything else- it's always that good. I get excited about eating at Cabo Taco. There is a paid parking dirt lot behind the restaurant. Warm crispy tortilla chips come complementary with chunky corn salsa, which had always been fresh. Darling little covered patio area with the plastic walls and heaters in the winter. They also have my favorite beer Red Stripe ! (among others). In the Noda area so plenty of neat little shops on the street for walking off the queso, or just grab a coffee at Smelly Cat. read more

Had dinner at Cabo Fish Taco the other night and really enjoyed my tacos! I ordered the shrimp taco and grilled steak taco, with the jalapeño potato mashers. Everything was so good! They legit fill these tacos to the max too, they're HUGE lol. Service was great as well, super chill. I mean it's in NoDa, it's supposed to be chill lol. My one complaint was the margarita I ordered. I ordered the pomegranate margarita and when it came it was almost watery and was super bland. I always hate to complain about something while out. But this time I couldn't keep it to myself. I told our server, who was cool about it and took it back so they could remake it. When he brought the 2nd one it tasted exactly the same...like water. I was pretty disappointed since I wanted a nice drink after a long day. But hey, guess you can't win em all. Stopped by this hidden gem on a Friday night around 7. Plenty of free parking even though the place was pretty full. Walked in and got a table for 3 immediately. Our waitress was super friendly. She brought over tortilla chips and pico/corn salsa. Pico was on top of the corn salsa. It was pretty good. They have a solid bar with TVs and every tequila you could think of. We ordered the lemon grilled shrimp taco. I was afraid because most shrimp tacos have 3 small shrimp but this thing was stuffed and it was one of the best tasting tacos I ever had. My second taco was the steak taco with the roasted tomato sauce. Man. That taco was damn good. My wife got the quesadilla. It was loose and hard to eat but that was her problem. Tacos were amazing.
