I love low-key places that put you in the heart of things while providing privacy, comfort, and luxury. Upon arrival we were greeted by Adam. He was kind and welcoming. He made us feel right at home. After showing us to our room and settling he left us to explore. What a beautifully decorated bed and breakfast. The decor inside of our room and throughout the manor was breathtaking. I took my time exploring each room in the common areas to make sure I didn't miss a thing! Our room was located on the first floor towards the front of the house. It was clean, smelled great and spacious. All of the amenities for a in-home spa experience were provided. They even sell spa packages. I bought the lavender scented on because that's one of my favorite scents. We decided to run and pick up something to eat and bring it back to the bed and breakfast. You have the option to eat inside of your room or in the inclosed patio. We chose to sit in patio which is where breakfast is eaten as well. They offer complimentary breakfast that's served buffet style. When we got to breakfast the next morning I asked for a fresh pot of eggs. They had no problem accommodating and the food was very good. If you book a stay during the warmer months you'll love the option to take a dip in the beautiful pool. If there's an emergency Adam is just a phone call away and not far. His quarters are on the property grounds as well.

Coffee was previous day left over and cold. No breakfast. Owner was supposed to meet us our first morning. He pulled a no show and would not respond to our texts. Room number two next to our room had the door opened and was completely ransacked mattress off the bed, box spring looked like someone took a knife to it, one of the bed posts was broken off. It looked like a crime scene. It freaked us out as well as the other couple we met. The owner finally showed up at around 11. He was very rude and when we told him we were leaving early, he basically said good, get your stuff and leave the property. He stood outside our door, knocked and asked us what the hold up was, making an inappropriate comment that my wife was currently getting dressed and we could not open the door. When we opened the door, he was there and proceeded to stalk us off the property while taking video of us . Also, yelling at us across the street while we were awaiting our ride. Now he's trying to charge for the full stay. The other couple left also and he's trying to charge them as well. This guy is unstable and unhinged. Stay away! In hindsight we should have called the police. This should be a negative star and not a one star which is required to post a review.

Decatur Alpaca Farm is more of a lifestyle than a physical space. Nestled in an unassuming…read moreresidential neighborhood, this magnificent microfarm and its beautifully manicured gardens, impeccably clean grounds, and hilariously entertaining animals offers such a whimsical and interesting escape from the hustle and bustle of the city -- it is an escape you surely will not want to miss. Marykay, who is by far one of the most interesting, friendly, and intelligent people we've ever met, greeted us with a fresh bowl of eggs hatched that same day from her flock of 25 chickens. The alpaca herd was visible from the nearby gate -- all were happily chomping away at a pile of orchard grass (which Marykay later informed us is the equivalent of alpaca pizza). They are inquisitive, yet a little shy, but if you respect them they will return the favor. Both alpacas, chickens, and cottage guests have plenty of space so as not to intrude upon one another. We opted for the Alpaca Experience, which is an absolute must-do for all guests. It is incredibly informational and as interactive as you'd like for it to be -- assuming you are putting the animals' needs ahead of your own. Marykay is incredibly knowledgeable and has literally built the farm from a small chicken coop to a very impressive, tidy, organized alpaca haven. It is very evident that all animals are so loved, respected, and maybe just a bit spoiled from time to time. All are rescued from varying degrees of past hardship but their new life on Marykay's farm is a blissful existence, as evidenced by their calm, enthusiastic, and curious demeanor. The cottage itself is adorable -- easily comparable to the spaces and vibes found in Garden and Gun or Southern Living. The refrigerator is stocked with all the conveniences of home, snacks and beverages are available for those late-night cravings, and coffee at the ready for early risers. Everything was clean, warm, cozy, and loved -- just like the farm animals. Dare we mention the alpaca fiber blankets available throughout the space? The entire experience is what you make of it. Should you want to hole up in the house (not recommended when alpaca/chicken watching is so entertaining and the spirit of the various flower/vegetable/dyes gardens being so alive, but who are we to tell you how to spend your time), Marykay will absolutely respect your boundaries. But, if you're looking to truly experience something unique, as her a few questions. You will not be disappointed. We travel often and book via Airbnb regularly, however no place has been quite as comfortable, unique, interactive, and interesting as Decatur Alpaca Farm. Marykay has created something so unique and heartwarming -- every open-minded adventurer should include this place as a stop on the bucket list. As for the casual traveler, a couple nights in her garden will erase all stress, even if the alpacas are not your thing. We did not want to leave.

Upon arrival we were shocked to find the campground a vast, densely crowded city of motorhomes packed like sardines in an infrastructure of crushed stone roads and RV lots as far as the eye can see. I talked to Susan a few days later and asked if we left early would we be able to receive a reimbursement. She said if we left by April 15th, she would reimburse us half of our payment, since they have a long list of people waiting to get into the campground. We jumped through hoops to find an alternate living arrangement and moved the RV out on April 12th. We talked to Susan that afternoon to let her know we were off the property and how she wanted to handle the reimbursement. Susan now changed her story and decided that they were not going to reimburse any funds. I pleaded with Susan that we would have not gone through so much trouble and additional expense if she had told us that from the beginning. Susan denied she ever offered anything. We could hear her husband berating her in the background. A truly sad place and sad situation. This is a place for folks looking for a long-term low-income environment to live. All others beware.

We fell in love with the cabin so much that we ended up spending most of our time there instead of Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge (which were both just a few minutes either way). We nestled in the first evening with popcorn, cards (which the owner provided in a cute little welcome basket) board games and movies. Every morning and evening, we all found our way to one of the wrap around decks to enjoy the breathtaking view. A few members of our group used the yoga mats on the porch -I think they were doing yoga ..(it wasn't pretty), some had coffee, some bird watched with binoculars. We grilled out and made s'mores around the fire pit . We were all together but still had plenty of space to do our own thing. The cabin and area was perfect for us because there was so much to do. Some of us guys split off and went fishing. Our teenagers went zip lining on their own one day, a couple of the ladies shopped, we all got up at the crack of dawn to look for wildlife at Cade's Cove. Heck, we even had our own at the cabin! 3 raccoons came visiting every night, looking for crumbs..by the last night, the kids were waiting up to watch them through the windows! There was really something for everyone! The owners did a great job thinking through the details and were extremely responsive and helpful the whole time. My parent's stayed behind at the cabin most days while the rest of us were out exploring. They were very happy to spend their time reading and relaxing up in the loft or outside in the shade looking out over the mountain. They actually read books provided at the cabin. There were even bedtime stories and puzzles for our little one, which was pretty cool. For the rest of us, there was a pool and card/poker table and foosball, electronuc darts..we actually had a game night instead of going to a show (which was our original plan). We had an absolute blast and saved about $500!! I'd say it was the best rental experience we've ever had and I hope I can figure out a way to get my family together again for a repeat soon.
