Conveniently located on Rupert street, which is a stone's throw from the Berwick Street market (where you can pick up produce, organic milk, etc), it's a great one-stop trip during your lunch break or midday adventure. Prices are incredibly reasonable for every dish, portions are huge, and they have tables and benches set up to festively eat right there on the street. These folks work really hard, they set up and break down their tents and cooking stalls every day they're in operation, and never leave a mess in the street. A must-try if you're central in Soho.

First the positives - the bread was great, the sauce was fantastic and you get loads of chicken. There's a but coming - but the problem was that the sandwich was instantly forgettable. The chicken was moist but simply didn't taste of much. The best bite of the sandwich I had was when it was just the sauce, cheese and bread and I think that says it all. I don't think it's worth the massive queue - unless they start bottling those sauces for individual sale - they're a real highlight.

I quickly became a regular as frankly, there's nothing bad on the menu but some things are just really exceptional. For one, the chicken tinga is the best I've had - period. It's slow cooked with slices of chorizo and is so flavourful it's unbelievable. Just thinking about it now is making my mouth water. The pulled pork is also really good and is right up there with my favourites anywhere - you can tell that they haven't just dumped the same spice mix on both - and although they don't advertise it, they're more than happy to give you a half and half if you want both. But their burritos are more than just that - they make their own guacamole and it's just brilliant, and something I don't normally praise at a Mexican place - the salad accompaniments are also really good. The cabbage slaw is a particular favourite and goes really well with the pork. Their hot sauces are also made in house and the chipotle one is just awesome. This area has an over abundance of Mexican burrito places now with three within a few minutes walk - but the fact that you will have to queue for at least five minutes to get served at Santana Grill is a testiment of the quality that they produce. If you're like me and don't want to try to eat a messy burrito at your desk then you can get it in a box too - and trust me, they don't skimp on the portions!! I've eaten at quite a few different Mexican places around London and I rate Santana Grill and Daddy Donkey as the two very best.

However, if you work/live nearby or are passing through King's Cross area, it's definitely a pleasant place to stop by and stock up on some delicious ingredients or a quick lunch. I saw at least two good looking fromageries, a mouth watering charcuterie (with ready to eat portions on display too, so you can stock up your pantry and have a quick lunch at the same time), a stand with tasty smoked salmon, and other standard market evergreens like quiche, baked goods and pastries galore. This small version of The Real Food Market (a larger version used to exist on the Southbank but this has recently been replaced by The Southbank Centre Market). When it was on the Southbank, the Real Food Market had many stalls with prepared food. This market isn't zoned to serve hot food so all of the stalls are either selling raw ingredients (cured meats/fish/cheese, sweet and savory baked goods) or cold meals (scotch eggs/savoury pastries/pies). Being that it is very near my house, I find myself Favorite retailers: Crosstown Doughnuts- the creme brulee doughnut. enough said. To my surprise, the salad also came with a thick chunk of Turkish bread, which made it even better value for money. I'd really wanted samphire and tartar sauce but he'd run out of samphire. The burgers were excellent, despite being fried in batter, they still had a great crab flavour and it went well with the wasabi mayo (can't comment on the other one, my dad all but inhaled it). Coincidentally, we ended up there on Sunday, and I ended up going again, but he still didn't have samphire... It was a popular combination! And each time I was turning up around 3/4pm, well into the day. So I tried the pomegranate combination, which again was fantastic. The following Friday, I ended up at Rupert Street market for lunch with colleagues, and guess who was there? Crabbieshack! Did he have Samphire and Tartar sauce? yes to the first but no to the second! I still ended up with a burger though... 4 crabs in 3 meetings. But the following week, Douglas kept some aside for me and I finally got what I craved. Worth the wait? You better believe it! He's not always at Rupert Street Market, but can be found at Kerb at various locations (check their website). I voted for him at the British Street Food awards and he's just won the London heat! The chilli coriander and wasabi Mayo defo gives it an edges I I could go for this sauce. It was very good. Very messy though. Can't help feel some street food vendors should show a bit more value with a side added for free or a more reasonable price. Seeing as I've been to all over America I know you could get this and fries for about £10 at most. Expensive lunch. It was near the city workers so might be a target but it was very good. I'd love to try their crab salad for £7 and see how much meat you get with that.
