We bought our Cape home 3 years ago, a year before granniehudson and hub decided to retire and leave our beloved Hudson, MA. We started working on the house and renting it as a short term rental with the defunct (thank GOD) VACASA. A year ago, we decided to take the plunge. After 2 years of dealing with sheisters, slick willies, we spotted a truck building an ADU in ROCKET SHIP timing, and stopped. We talked to the guy and invited him to check out the house. AND it turns out our neighbor works for an architectural firm (review coming soon), so it was all a match made in heaven.
Turns out, this house was one of this contractors homes when he was a young whipper-snapper! He recognized the kitchen - "HEY, I did the tile here!" and the deck he worked on for the previous owners. Charming, funny, super professional AND a dog lover to boot, we put together a team of surveyors, architect, and contractor.
Let me caveat this - although it is a Cinderella story, ANY WORK WITH CONTRACTORS is BOUND to have "issues". NOTHING EVER goes as planned or as smoothly as one would like. What makes the difference is HOW ITS HANDLED. And Chris Wood is a darling, charming, lovely family man and his right hand honcho Gilman, isn't far behind. As I type this in June 26, the job isn't totally finished. But I can tell you, our experience in working with them, even through some subcontractor frustrations, the 2 winter snow storms, inspectors, permitting, and the whole jazz, has been rewarding. The before and after pictures of our guest bathroom (honey we shrunk the house in moving from Hudson and downsizing) is something of beauty, PARTICULARLY when their tile subcontractor is an ARTIST and to boot - clean and fast! The team that worked on our patio and our deck - superb! On time, FAST, clean, professional and personable! The electrician team (review forthcoming) was SPECTACULAR. The painters... C- in my book but I can't review them yet because they are MIA and the work isn't finished.
I can't say enough about Chris. We LOVE the guy. And he has an eye for detail - if he comes around a jobsite and it doesn't meet his standards, well, let's just say arses and elbows will be moving. And when some of his contractors couldn't make it - he personally came in and got the job done.
He made the prime real estate article in Cape Cod publications and does mcmansions as well as our tiny little piece of heaven and everything in between. And their suppliers? Wow! Bellew in Yarmouth for tile has our seal of approval! read more
