This was the first time that I have taken the time to truly dig in to the process of buying an RV…read more If you are going to purchase one, I strongly suggest that you take the time, and research the process before doing so; there are excellent websites that are available.
I will start off by saying that one of the most important things that I learned was that THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN RV THAT COMES OFF THE PRODUCTION LINE THAT IS WITHOUT ISSUES. There are way too many parts, and way too many processes that are performed by minimum wage employees to end up with a perfect product. An RV is a small moving house. When new houses are built, or new commercial buildings are constructed, there is a "punch list" where problems and issues are addressed. Using a pre-printed list, I was allowed to comb the unit and address issues that I found.
Unfortunately, the salesman that I was working with left the company during this time, and the punch list issues were never entered into their system. They called me to let me know that the unit was ready. Using my copy of the punch list, I exposed that most of the issues were not addressed. They apologized (I use the term "they" because there were about three staff members involved at this point), discovered the lack of information input, and I left. Several days later, they called again, apologized again for the previous mistake, and told me that the unit was now ready.
I arrived this time with my truck to pick up the unit. The only remaining issue was that there was no shower hose and nozzle for the outside shower. They said that they would order one and let me know when it was in.
While we were on our first experience with the RV, one of the dining chairs broke. Upon inspection, it was obvious that the problem was a hidden flaw in the wood. It wasn't anybody's fault, it was just one of those things that happens when you work with natural materials. I took the chair to the dealership, and they ordered a new one.
Once the chair and the shower were in, I was notified, and I went to pick up the items. The replacement chair was new and ready. The shower lacked the proper end to attach to the faucet, however. After much searching, we determined that there wasn't one that was made for that faucet. They had put the wrong kind of faucet for the shower. The RV was three hours away from the dealership, so the salesman finally just retrieved one of the correct faucets and gave it to me. I can do these kind of things, so it was no problem choosing to install it myself, as opposed to bring the unit back to the dealership.
All this to say, that despite a lot of confusion, and a few missteps, the staff at FunTown RV went way above and beyond, both before the sale and after, to make sure that I was happy with my purchase. I guess it could be argued that it should be four stars instead of five, simply because of the number of trips that it took to get everything squared away, but they were so pleasant, and willing to see it through to a satisfactory conclusion that I feel they deserved the benefit of the doubt. I recommend FunTown RV, and if/when I make another purchase, I will go back.
