We were looking for a local coffee shop, where we could get a pick me up and a pastry. I looked at…read morethe menu online before going and was excited to see they had a gluten free slice of cake and cold brew. When I arrived, the young lady working behind the counter was extremely pleasant. She was also patient with my need to speak English, as french is the dominant language. Unfortunately the cold brew was out and she offered me an iced americano, which I accepted. Truthfully, I really wanted to like it because she was so sweet but I really didn't care for it at all. It was completely melted and there was no ice left, by the time I got to the car. It was also vanilla, but I didn't care for the syrup they used. Second, they didn't have any gluten free options for sweets. She mentioned that sometimes they have a gluten free brownie but they didn't that day. It was very disappointing. My husband got the last chocolate croissant, so he was happy. I wouldn't return to this coffee shop but I'm sure others had a more positive experience.

Thankfully it was a sunny spring Sunday. The place is like any other normal cafe. The service is good. I had their hot chocolate whih I like bwcause it was not very sweet. The Long Version: Hectare Cafe is located in a mini food hall called Le Coin Gourmand in Old Montreal. I was at One Babo in the same food hall getting a bubble tea and since my husband does not like bubble tea and is a coffee fiend, he popped into Hectare Cafe to get his third coffee of the day (!) He got a small Americano ($4). It came in a cool-looking paper cup that looked like a takeout container (see my photo). He enjoyed it and said it was delicious. I had a taste and it was ok, lol, but I'm not a coffee connoisseur and I don't like my coffee black the way he does. He said service was friendly. The food hall is cute. There's indoor seating but it's very small in there. I did spot some Haitian pastries like Pate Kòde which I'd love to try on a future visit. Review #212 (2025)

Located in the building with two other storefronts? Basically it shared the space with what looked like a Pho place and a Crepe/Boba place. We ordered a double espresso and a macchiato shot. Wasn't anything spectacular, didn't expect for it to be but it certainly got the job done. They also have pastries as well. Will be back before our trip ends to try their empanadas!

New breakfast spot for this residential neighborhood of Greenfield Park, steps away from the…read moreCharles-LeMoyne Hospital and the Taschereau Boulevard, lined with popular fast-food options. Newly opened on July 1st, the only Indian thing about Bombay is its name--it's not an Indian restaurant, but a cozy café run by friendly Mariana Chopova, the owner but also the only cook. Bombay builds its menu around eggs and chicken for the whole day. Although breakfast is served all day upon request, the main attraction of this restaurant is the chicken, marinated and roasted on-site in a roaster displayed near the entrance of the kitchen. Marinated for 24h then roasted by Mariana herself, the chicken, served in quarters with greens and pilaf rice or homies, is crisp on the outside and tender and lean on the inside, as expected. Subtedly salty, the main taste is the conforting smell of smoke, adding to the barbeque feel of the meat. I got the lunch with the pilaf rice instead of the homies, and although it's rather unconventional, the rice, cooked in chicken broth and served with peppers, was satisfyingly filling and represents an interesting carb option to accompany the meat. As for the greens, they are as expected. The chicken soup is made from homemade chicken broth, which explains the shreds of meat--a great surprise! Since I have a sweet tooth, I also tried the offered homemade dessert, which was an angel's cake (gâteau des anges) today, served with fresh grapes and blueberries under drips of syrup. The syrups were a bit overwhelming and made the dessert deceivingly normal, almost tasting like store-bought cakes. Since it was lunchtime, I didn't have the chance to try the breakfast - 1 or 2 eggs served with a choice of meat and a crêpe, for only $5 or so. Pastries and coffee, including espresso, are also sold. I will definitely comeback to try these meal options, since the service was friendly. It was a pleasant café to be seated in on his hot summer day, since the windows are large and that a patio is available. The decor might be a bit gaudy because of the dollar-store placemats, but the refurbished church benches used as seatings definitely complete the retro feel of this neighborhood café without making it look too overdone. The menu might be a but too simple as for now, but the neighborhood definitely needed an independent café and breakfast place, and it's definitely a good start for Mariana and her staff.
