The car looked good. We paid over $28,000 for the car. I had left the lot. my wife was setting up her phone and getting the car ready for her to drive home. I received a phone call from my wife just as I had left, saying that she noticed there was a chip in the windshield. I advised her to drive right back to the lot and let them know. I'm sure they would take care of it. They didn't want to take care of it. They said we had already paid and it was our problem now. We let them know they had not disclosed the damages to the car and they were in violation of Iowa code. They reluctantly agreed to replace the windshield after much discussion with the salesman and the sales manager and conversation with the general manager over the phone as they were not on site. My wife advised them that she wanted the same Quality windshield put in that was in there previously. we made another appointment to get the car taken care of. the car was dropped off, my wife went to pick it up after the windshield was done and of course they put in a cheaper windshield, and that became another argument with the sales manager. The manager became very disrespectful and angry. In summary, Smart Honda was deceptive, unprofessional and disrespectful. the title of the review would be BUYER BEWARE.

David Wagner was an amazing sales person. He seamlessly helped me get the paperwork done to purchase this car, and they held it for me in their showroom until I could get it shipped to the San Francisco Bay Area. David was excellent with communication as were Jim McCabe and finance advisor Laurence Nemec. Now I have this beautiful 335i convertible to drive around the Bay Area in, and I couldn't be happier. Thank you for your excellent customer service skills, and this fantastic experience! If you are looking for a car here definitely let David Wagner help you!

I purchased a 2020 BMW Z4 sDrive M40i from Kimberly BMW of Davenport in April 2026 as an…read moreout-of-state buyer from Ohio. The vehicle was driven to Tennessee, where I was located at the time. Because I couldn't inspect the car in person, I relied entirely on the dealership's disclosures. I asked salesperson McKinley Elg directly about any scratches, damage, or imperfections. He responded that he had gone "up and down with a pretty thorough eye" and sent me photographs annotated with red circles identifying a small chip on the bumper, a minor mark above the rear driver's door, rocker panel scuffs, and a scratch on the trunk lid. I was also provided a clean CARFAX showing no accidents reported and a signed dealer disclosure form stating the vehicle had no accident history. Based on all of that, I sent my 22-year-old son on a one-way flight from Knoxville to pick up the car. What I received was not what was disclosed. When my son arrived at the dealership to pick up the car, he noticed road rash on three of the four black wheels -- something that was never disclosed to me at any point during the sale. After he drove it to Tennessee, I found paint peeling in chunks around both headlights, around the BMW hood emblem, and across the front bumper far beyond the single chip I had been shown. The hood was misaligned. I later learned -- from McKinley's own text message sent the day before closing -- that the car "has been fixed once before and they pinched the panel in a weird way," and that a dent repair professional had already told the dealership the damage "might be body shop." That information was never shared with me before I agreed to the purchase. I had the vehicle independently inspected by a BMW Certified Repair Facility. The assessment was unambiguous: the damage was "not consistent with typical wear and tear for a 2020 model," the front bumper "should not have passed a standard dealer pre-sale inspection without disclosure," and the prior repair was performed improperly -- the bumper was never fully removed, trim pieces were masked in place, and one-time-use side reflector lamps were left damaged and now require full replacement. The preliminary repair estimate, prepared to BMW Certified standards using all OEM parts, came to $5,650.29. I obtained two additional estimates from other body shops, all reaching the same conclusion. When I contacted the dealership's General Manager, Richard Zillmer, his response was to offer me $1,000 toward "refinishing the bumper." I declined. The dealership then went completely silent -- no further communication from any staff member. I have since filed formal complaints with both the Iowa and Ohio Attorneys General and have notified BMW North America and BMW AG. I also notified the dealership's ownership in writing on May 12, 2026 of the full sequence of events. I also want to address the ways in which the dealership has attempted to deflect responsibility. First, they have tried to blame the vehicle's condition on its age, characterizing the damage as expected wear and tear for an "older" vehicle. This excuse falls apart immediately when you look at the facts: this is a 2020 BMW Z4 that had just 36,205 miles on it at the time of purchase -- and the dealership charged $47,272.98 for it including the warranty. You simply cannot price a car like a low-mileage, near-new luxury vehicle and then turn around and blame its condition on age when things go wrong. A BMW Certified expert confirmed the damage is "not consistent with typical wear and tear for a 2020 model," and I also own a 2013 and a 2001 BMW, neither of which exhibit the kind of paint failure and improper repair evidence present on this vehicle. Second, the dealership is attempting to shift responsibility onto my 22-year-old son, claiming he had an opportunity to inspect the vehicle at pickup. That characterization is false and frankly inappropriate. My son was sent for one purpose only -- to deliver wet signatures on the remaining paperwork and transport the vehicle back to me. He has never owned a car, never purchased a car, and has no experience or knowledge that would allow him to identify improper prior repairs, concealed paint failure, or collision damage indicators on a BMW. Sending a first-time driver to sign documents does not constitute a buyer inspection, and the dealership knows that. The person who negotiated this purchase, reviewed every photo, asked every question, and made every decision was me -- from Ohio, remotely, based entirely on what the dealership chose to disclose. My total investment in this vehicle -- including the warranty -- was $47,272.98. I paid that amount for a car with an undisclosed prior repair, improperly fixed front-end damage, road rash on three wheels, and widespread paint failure that a BMW Certified expert says never should have left the lot without disclosure.
