I'm writing this review because what happened to me should never happen to any patient…read more I came to this clinic in a vulnerable and time-sensitive situation, and instead of being treated with professionalism, care and compassion, I was met with dismissiveness and a complete lack of understanding from office management. It was clear that certain staff members in critical positions are not trained -- or not willing -- to de-escalate, listen, or handle difficult situations with basic empathy. What I experienced felt more like ego and defensiveness than patient care. My provider has been supportive, but the front-end leadership turned an already stressful medical situation into something unnecessarily painful. No patient who is already struggling should walk out feeling worse because of the staff's attitude. UCSD is a respected institution -- but this experience shows that some individuals do not uphold the standard the institution's name carries. I hope leadership genuinely reflects on this, because the way certain staff behaved is not just disappointing -- it is unacceptable for a healthcare environment.

If I could give zero stars, I would. UCSD Health has been the most frustrating and incompetent…read morehealthcare system I've ever dealt with. I tried to establish care with a primary care physician, and the experience has been an absolute nightmare. At my first appointment, I checked in early, only to sit in the lobby for over an hour and a half waiting to be seen. No updates, no communication--just sitting there while the doctor took forever. Eventually, I had to leave because I couldn't wait indefinitely. When I rescheduled and came back, I was 15 minutes late due to circumstances beyond my control. Despite the fact that they wasted an hour and a half of my time at my previous visit, they refused to see me and said they didn't have staff to accommodate me. Their "solution"? Validating my parking. As if that makes up for the fact that I still don't have a primary care physician and now have to wait months for another appointment. This place clearly does not value its patients' time or care about actually providing medical services. They expect you to wait indefinitely for them, but if you're just a few minutes late, they turn you away with zero regard for your health. Absolutely ridiculous. Avoid this place if you actually want reliable healthcare.

I cannot believe the things that Dr. Dembo-Smeaton said to me at my appointment today. I have never…read moreheard so many dangerously outdated comments and recommendations. 1. Upon hearing I have two little kids, she said, "Oh, so who helps you with the children?" When I replied, "My husband - he's great and has a flexible job so he takes on a lot of the kid stuff." She replied (and this is pretty darn close to verbatim): "Oh yes, it used to be that women could stay home and take care of the children. But not anymore. That was better." [This was especially confusing to me since Dr. Dembo-Smeaton obviously works, so I'm not sure why her bias against working mothers?!?!) 2. I asked for a referral to pelvic floor therapy since after my second delivery I had had the common issues with leaking while sneezing/laughing. She said I shouldn't be running at all and I should stop lifting heavy weights (I do the Body Pump class at the Y - not exactly Olympic bodybuilding). I told her that these are things I love doing, and I want to get treatment so that I can go back to enjoying doing the things I love without worry about peeing my pants. She looked at me condescendingly and said, "Well the important thing is that you have two beautiful children." And I replied, "Of course I appreciate my kids, but I also want to not have pelvic floor issues, and I want to run and lift weights ..." and she just doubled down and said, "Well after children things change and the important thing is that you have your family." or something like that. I was completely aghast. Are women not allowed to have a life and hobbies and be active post-delivery?! I couldn't believe how she just blew off my desire to exercise with a simple command to stop running and just appreciate my kids. 3. I asked for an updated birth control prescription now that I had finished breastfeeding. She asked what forms I'd used in the past and I said the ring and the pill, then she immediately said, "OK I will get you Nuvaring." When I replied that I wanted the pill instead, she said, "But the Nuvaring is so much easier!" Not sure why she needed to argue with me over MY preferred method of bc. 4. We were discussing losing weight and she advised, "if you want to lose weight you really need to just focus on cardio." This is such outdated and WRONG advice - it's well established that weight training is healthy and good for weight loss and good for preserving bone density, among other benefits.

Dr. Dembo has been my doctor for almost 20 years. Excellent Health care and I trust her 100%. Will…read morebe my doc. for as long as she is in Practice. Warm and understanding. Genuine.

I thought I was eating well, she showed me the proper way to eat. Like everything else, if you follow directions and do the work, you will see results and I have. I have learned so much about my own particular health, Dr. Martinez concentrates on the individual rather than the "average," greatly appreciated. The office is well run and organized, I have phone appointments rather than driving, saves us all much time. She is the best.

When it comes to managing your health and healing your body you need direction, accountability, and…read moresupport.... Dr. Martinez has been just that! While I am an avid researcher and spend a lot time investigating symptoms and triggers for disease I knew I couldn't heal my body alone. I needed an expert. After getting back some labs from a speciality doc who stated he would just keep an eye on things but everything is "fine for now" I knew I needed to seek out better care. Most doctors will prescribe you drugs to alleviate symptoms... while naturopathic doctors will get to the underlying cause of them. A brief look at my health: I have had stomach/gut problems my entire life, an autoimmune disease, and a thyroid imbalance. I also hadn't had my period in months! While this journey hasn't been cheap, the investment into healing my body has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. Seeing my levels/numbers change for the better with Dr. Martinez's direction has been amazing. I finally started my period again, my cortisol/testosterone has normalized, and the antibodies (stress/attack) on my thyroid/hashimotos has gone from 371 to 150. My journey isn't over but I am grateful to have her support and expertise to guide me with each step! Dr. Martinez is lovely, refreshing, and full of wisdom.
