For where they are located (it used to be a Carter Lumberyard) I was expecting more of a selection of items. And quite honestly, their prices were kind of high! I looked at a table that was clearly preloved (it had scratches and some other minor cosmetic damages) and they had it priced for $99! I literally did a double take hoping I misread it but it was really priced for 100 bones. Um, no thanks. Overall the selection was nil and the overall appearance of the store was run down. They could make the place a little more inviting instead of having it look as unappealing as it is in its current state. I know resale shops are hit and miss for finds but with the little bit of items I saw for I'm surprised they were as packed as they were.

She absolutely loves it. Not only does she get to learn from skilled directors and staff, but she has developed friends outside of her normal circle at school. I like that they not only offer opportunities to perform classics like Grease, but they are challenged with other plays that are less known and they have to develop their characters from the script and not from something they've seen already on the stage or screen. CTW also offers opportunities to learn other aspects of the theater such as building sets, sound and lighting, improv, and even writing their own scripts.

He was so excited about it that I couldn't decline, and I was pleasantly surprised when I watched the play that was cast entirely with children and teens. It surpassed any school play I'd ever seen. Now that I have kids, I have made a point of checking their website and facebook page, so I can take my kids to see the performances. Last year, I took my kids to see Pocahontas, and today, we saw The Poisoned Apple (a version of Snow White) with Cast B. I don't expect flawless memorization of lines, and the occasion missed cue is easily overlooked when taken in context of the exuberance of the confident cast, the magnificent set, and the high-quality costumes and makeup. Everyone really wants to be there doing their part to put on a great show. The tickets were about $5 each, the popcorn and water were about $5, and the awe on my captivated kids faces was priceless. Seeing other kids put on such a great show has to impart a sense of self-efficacy on kids in the audience. The theatre is located in Toledo's Old West End, of which I've always been a bit leery if only because I'm unfamiliar with the area; however, I've always felt safe there. The theatre is located in the Collingwood Arts Center, which has easy access to I-75, and the adults in bright vests patrolling the parking lot made themselves appropriately conspicuous. Hint: It can be a little hard to hear the actors in the middle to back of the auditorium. Arrive about 30 minutes early, and you'll be able to get front row seats before the grandparents take all of them. You can pass the time with the reasonably-priced popcorn and snacks.

On a foggy Saturday morning, heading South (I-75), we decided we should stop for some coffee. Unfamiliar with Monroe and wanting something other than gas station coffee, I found Fresh Start Coffee House. It's less than a mile off of the highway and worth the deviation. This unique little shop offers artisan coffee, inspired food and conversation. Paula and Vic, who own the shop engaged us as soon as we walked in. They offered recommendations and were genuinely polite. They told us that they employ people who are in recovery, re-entry and with special needs. Their space is available for church groups, community organizations and other community meetings. They also feature live bands on occasion. The coffee was amazing. We both got "Paula's Perfect", although we'll be back to try others we wanted. We got the carrot/berry (Morning Glory) muffin and it was delicious. The ambiance was fun, clean and well designed. The prices were fair and well worth the support of their mission. They also sell merchandise, art and other trinkets. If you are passing through, do yourself a favor and check Fresh Start Coffee House out. It's a hidden gem in Monroe, and a new regular stop for us.

We were quickly greeted and pointed to the menu to review our drink options. I chose a hot pistachio latte with almond milk and it was perfect. I'm so glad I got to check this place out and I would definitely stop again if I was in the area.
