I stayed here the night and the better part of the next day years ago. And yes it was my fault I got picked up for drunk in public over in Chico. It was a cold November night but the facially was well heated it has radiant floor heating which is great because the take your shoes when they intake you. The beds are steel with no mattress in the "drunk tank" so you really can't sleep but by that time I had made some friends in there and just hangout all night. In the morning they let us go to a waiting room till we finish sobering up. They fed us breakfast it was just cereal but it good hangover food. The one thing I did not appreciate was when one of the officers changed the tv channel to a marathon of Nash Bridges that was cruel and unusable punishment I had to sit there for five hours and watch it till I was able to "blow" a .07 or better so I could leave. I did stay for lunch which was a peanut butter sandwich and that was not too bad. Bottom line I was respectful of the officers and I was treated pretty will in return. I just got done doing 45 days and during my stay I was blessed to be able to become a worker in the jail and that's because of one officer Miss Edwards. I like to say thank you for taking the chance on me I'd also like to thank all of the classification officers for giving me the chance the food was not that bad the stay was not that bad. working for them I was very grateful to earn a month off. I would like to also thank Miss Mayfield and Miss Meliane. For the coffee and the bubbly water that you ladies provide to us workers. As an activist for Children's rights, I have on occasion been incarcerated for acts of civil disobedience, that is in fact part of my job, to bring about awareness of a terribly unjust family and juvenile court system. America's ANTI-family and Juvenile courts make rulings which in all honesty result in the abuse of our children and they make these rulings for what amounts to hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue to the states, counties and their employees every year. In any event, This was not the worst jail I have been in but it was certainly not the best either. The food was sub par as jails go. Apparently the local inmates think it is pretty good but they have apparently not visited a true 5 star jail. The property is secure, the jailers are OK, nothing special here either. The new scam in many jails are the phone systems. Yes, you can communicate via telephone with an outside party but they must put a rather large deposit into the systems account. Calls are about $1.00 per minute, definitely a scam, fortunately the ACLU is onto this scam and should have this shut down or at least a fair rate charged . Speaking of the ACLU, all jails nationwide are now mandated to have panic buttons in the cell, I did not see a panic button... Like any jail, the objective is to scare you into not wanting to go and make you miserable while you are there so that you do not want to come back, Jails are all solitary, only the high tech, long term jails or prisons offer additional comforts. Butte County is just a jail, no big deal. If you are in jail for a righteous cause like children's rights, no one can break you down. I rate this jail a 2 on a scale of 1-5. They could have better food and treat their prisoners better. Horrible nasty nasty nasty guards I was in there for just a warrant misdemeanor and they were absolutely horrible to me. I told them I was sick cuz I was coming off at drunk and was sick do you think I could get the bathroom key I had an officer yell yell yell in my face that he had more important things to do give me the bathroom key so basically I puked in the water faucet and they had to clean that up anyway horrible horrible horrible deplorable conditions I was there for one night and the girls in my bunk which is open aired cold and 11 other girls and they're all medicated they're either sleeping or crying broke my heart and I was only there one night... wouldn't get one star at all but that was the only way I could post this review very very sad breaks my heart hopefully maybe or people listen to what's really going on so read more

Tried to kill self and was sent here on hold. They had two people tearing my clothes off and put a heavy vest on, otherwise pretty much naked left in dirty cell with no bed. They make fun of people with autism. Humiliating and dehumanizing place. Water fountain connected to toilet? Ew. I had severe bruises and scrapes all over me from being manhandled and not once was I resisting. Treated like shit. Upon finding out through the DA that a family member thought to have been transferred out to another facility (several days prior) had in fact not been moved to that facility, I urgently tried to check the BCJ to determine if my loved one was there. This was after I had just been to the secondary facility and was told "no visitors". Needless to say I was concerned with family members' actual whereabouts. Sight unseen, contradictory information long after the fact, and zero communication from the inmate is NOT comforting. People die in jail. Based on calling the jails automated system, it became apparent it wasn't working. So I called back again and again hoping to get a live person. A female jailer finally answered, quickly recited a number to call to reach the jail (um, how's that?) and immediately hung up. It seemed pretty clear she knew the system was down and simply didn't want to deal with, well, anyone. I called back and got the same thing, except this time she had stated her name was Robin. I was lucky enough to get the number written down (and that I was calling locally)! Unfortunately the number given, supposedly for the jail (though I had reached the jails outgoing message with the FIRST number I used) wasn't any good. It rang and rang and then finally gave me an out-going automated message stating there was "no answering service". I ended up having to call VINE to see if their database showed if and where my loved one was being held but had no luck. Point being: this was late evening on a non-holiday Monday! What if I was a mother, or spouse, or whomever trying to determine if my loved one was DEAD? Then what do I do? Wait all night for someone else to come on shift so I can get some cooperation? What if my loved one was missing on the outside and I was simply trying to eliminate jail as a possibility for their location before I called the police to file a missing persons report!? How have you not made that situation so much worse? Then the kicker. I tried the number again that helpful Robin had given me, where she presumably was NOT located 20 minutes earlier, and guess who answers the phone? Yep, Robin! And what do I get when I start to say "the number you gave....."? CLICK! Wow! The original number I had used, with the automated system, was still on the fritz so I was left with no other options. It bares mentioning that I'd had more than one similar experience with this jailer upon previous calls . She simply hangs up the phone before you can get a word out. Seriously Robin, I get that you deal with inmates but they ARE still people that someone cares about and you are, in fact, at work....for the people of Butte county! You have a responsibility to the public, whether it's a concerned citizen calling for the holding information of a loved one, or a victim trying to ascertain the whereabouts of their perpetrator! If you're too busy to do a very basic and required function of your job, I'm sure there are others in the high unemployment rate of Butte County who would love to take your place....and enjoy your increasingly hard to come by salary and benefits. Seriously, how hard is it to answer a phone, listen for 5 seconds and type in a name??? You demonstrate a lazy and incompetent attitude. I still don't know where my loved one is, and I'm sure I won't sleep a wink tonight, but I foresee you spending some time in the unemployment line, or riding a desk all night doing nothing but filling out thrilling paperwork, once the complaints of your ineptitude and flagrant lack of professionalism pile high. This hotel is terrible. I spent a night here after being picked up in from downtown Chico with some friends. The shuttle to the hotel was interesting the driver insisted I wore these silver bracelets until we reached the hotel. Once arriving they promptly opened the door for me and escorted me inside. The lobby was modern industrial looking. The desk girl checked me in using my finger prints. I felt that was a strange way to find my reservation, it worked all the same. Even more strange was when she asked me to empty my pockets. She wanted to hold on to my wallet and keys for me. I guess they have a high theft in this hotel. Since everything was all inclusive I obliged and handed over my wallet and keys. Service leaves something to be desired, no one could show me to the bar, they had one tv in the waiting room and would not change the channel. Most of the staff was short and not to friendly with any/all requests. The waiter served me dinner on a cafeteria tray. It was cool I guess but I ordered the Ruben with no cheese and fries and a side of ranch. What I received was a bologna sandwich and chips and an apple.... I tried to send it back but the staff would not give me what I asked for, I guess they were fresh out. I wish the waiter would have notified me of this prior to placing my order. I after dinner I was escorted to my room. This place is really big on escorting you everywhere, it's nice but sometimes I just wanted to be by myself. Once we arrived to the sleeping quarters I noticed the large room with cement benches. In the far right corner was a toilet and sink. Both were a nice stainless finish and were covered in puke. There were 10 other people in my room, sleeping on the floor. I asked for a new room but again my request fell on deaf ears. I sat down on the bench next to the others in my room and slowly went to sleep. The following morning I was greeted and escorted back to the front desk. I was given back my belongings and asked to leave. They have strange checkout hours, 7:16 am. Once outside I waited for the shuttle driver to bring me back to Chico where I was picked up. Ten to fifteen minute passed with no sign of the driver. I went back inside to ask when the next shuttle will be available. The front desk lady was confused and asked me to leave, I asserted myself and asked again when the next shuttle will be around to bring me home. She yelled "GET OUT!" And threatened to call the police. I would never suggest this hotel, service and accommodation were absolutely terrible. read more

A close friend booked into butte county jail with his doctor prescribed medication on his person, but the staff locked them up not letting him finished taken them. 1. Antibiotic to remove his severe abscessed tooth infection. Stating Do not stop taking until finished, 2. a non-narcotic pain pill for his severe tooth pain. I called the Jail, She was rude, saying he can put in a sick slip to see the nurse, She hung up on me, He did, but it took several days to see the nurse, But didn't give him his meds, So I call the jail inmate advocate lawyer that was put in place after the civil action suit for substandard jail conditions was won against the jail. She got his antibiotic released, but he had to put in another sick slip that took a few days to restart the antibiotic over again because the round wasn't taken until finished causing the infection to become worse. two plus months later still refusing to pull his half missing below the gum line abscessed tooth. For the pain, I been buying him generic ibuprofen .20 cents a tablet from online commissary. the maximum amount allowed to buy each week.
