Butlin's Adults Weekenders are not for the faint of heart. Yes, I did steal that line from a Facebook group I belong to, but it is so true. While we may have atmospheres somewhat similar to Butlin's in the US (think a Disney resort but if it was on Chicago's Navy Pier, with a water park, and your favorite musical acts from the 70s-2010s performed... given the theme of the weekend), there really isn't anything that is really comparable. It is on the English Channel and the shingle beach is so interesting to explore! Located on the southern edge of Bognor Regis - a quaint and cute town in West Sussex - it was fairly easy to get to from London. Just 2 trains and a taxi ride from the Bognor train station. At Butlin's, I stayed in the Shoreline Hotel, which is geared toward kids with it's nautical theme. The view was not bad (see photos); I enjoyed being able to see the shoreline as well as the park. Overall, it has a much newer vibe than the Minehead location that I visited in October 2022. The hotel and facilities were extremely clean (per my standards; which, as an American, are apparently quite low). The bath/shower was unexpectedly large and the bath was huge - so much larger than what I am accustomed to. There is a mini fridge in the room and plenty of space to unpack and make yourself comfortable. The "kids" room was fun, with a bunk bed, little tv, and even a disco light! The beds were comfortable and the linens were very clean. I had a package delivered during my stay, I am sure that is out of the ordinary. Angela at Shoreline reception ensure I received it prior to the concert so I could possibly have my favorite band sign the item I purchased (and they did!!!) :D She was really a star!! You go here for the bands. The accommodations are a joke- more in line with a no-tell motel and they charge a fortune. The largest crappy bed is a double. Our 2 bedroom apartment was billed as "brand new silver seas". The only thing that might have been new was our toilet. Some of the sections don't even provide a basic bath towel. The food options on premise are on par with the hospital style cafeteria crap quality. Brand name fast food is the secondary food source. The place is run down in almost all the areas. I am not reviewing the arcade or pool stuff- just the rooms and the fact you have to pay to stay here to see the bands as they don't offer day passes so you can stay elsewhere So unless there are several bands it's not worth coming to this dump. read more

Absolutely disgusting, don't come here unless you like shit food and dirty food establishments. To start off, the buffet was outrageous. Food was unflavoured and bland, cups and plates were dirty straight from the dispenser, and the whole place is ridiculously understaffed. The only good places to eat were the places not owned by the hotels (e.g Costa, Papa Johns) Secondly, everything was always closed and "under repair", for example their popular wave pool and some of the attractions in the 'NEW' VR room. The only good thing about this place was the pool with the Rapids. Definitely don't recommend there's some clear slack in the service here (cannot stress enough about the buffet!). read more

First time staying at Bognor Regis for an easter weekend and cost was £525 for a Silver Room (1 Double and 2 singles), even though the entertainment was enjoyable and the area is lovely its let down by the accommodation at Oyster Bay as it's not fit to be inhabited. Staying in Silver Accommodation you will find it dated and slightly dirty and see random pieces of metal screwed into walls with broken doors and locks, you'll also experience and issue with all night it will seem like daylight due to the lighting outside. The major issue which has caused my complaint is it's Dangerous, I never thought I would be writing a bad review about Butlins and comparing it to some other badly run holiday camps. There were hard pieces of plastic sticking out of the bedside cabinets next to peoples heads especially my 4 year old's, when my wife went to pick something up off the floor the back of her hand hit it and scratched and broke the skin causing a minor bleed and that them made us leave the resort early. Butlins has made it difficult to contact and your pretty much forced to contact when you get home. Then your told "Our team work by a 'solve on site' policy and if they are made aware of any concerns they will always do their best to resolve these." Hard when its made as difficult as possible to contact on site. Think before you book and if you have issues keep on at them to fix them, don't accept mediocre accommodation. They won't want to know after you got home, I'm currently looking at doing a Small Claim against the company. read more

This was mine and my kids first Butlin's experience and my wife's first time in 20+ years and honestly- we all want to go home and never come back. The state of the room in Oyster Bay was like a crackhouse it made me want to cry- everything was falling apart or damaged or dirty (rubbish everywhere, when I laid my young daughter down to change she was coated in dirt from the carpet, light fixtures and mirrors falling off the wall or broken, bath was layered in dirt/grime/hair etc) I could not keep my kids here. When we complained we were offered someone to come and do a "deep clean" so we said yes... they came in and picked the rubbish up and gave the bath a wipe down. Just to make things worse, my special needs son found a sugar substance on the windowsill and ate it and I had no where to plug in my medical equipment (was told we had to hire an extension lead... £8 charge £30 cash deposit). And then the final straw we sat down on the bed and found bed bugs! When we called immediately they did give us another room thankfully but offered nothing else. We cannot wait to go home and the only thing that's keeping us here is the kids enjoying the entertainment during the day. As a holiday destination I don't think I would rush to Butlins but I love the fact they are now putting more and more events on where people can party all weekend like its a festival but still shower/have a decent level of personal hygiene. I attended bugged out weekender this weekend with Djs like eats everything, skream and ame playing it was what I would describe as 'very me' ....I like the way that the events are allowed to take over unusual spaces with big Djs playing in bowling alleys and even the back room of Burger King! The hotel shoreline was decent and clean and the staff were really helpful getting us anything we needed. My only word of warning is don't try and diet here...you can only really eat unhealthily with papa johns, burger places and diners being the only food options available. read more

I visited for one of the adult weekends here in Feb (Mighty Hoop-La - highly recommended!) to celebrate some friends birthdays. I booked us into two "gold" apartments and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the accommodation. Being completely honest I wasn't sure what to expect from Butlins having never been before but the whole experience was great. Our apartments were next door/inter-joining so it was like one big flat. The bed was very comfortable with clean fresh linen. The kitchen/lounge/balcony was a pleasant place to sit in and have breakfast or late night chats. Housekeeping came round with fresh towels etc daily. The resort itself is also impressive. Again, I didn't have high hopes before arriving but every small venue/restaurant/bar we visited was clean, food was tasty and staff friendly enough. Prices were reasonable enough to me, however I am used to London prices! We ate at Papa Johns, Burger King and the american style Diner place. The pool was closed on the Saturday despite a pool party due to take place, disappointing but it was back open on the Sunday and I had a great afternoon swimming and enjoying the rapids and water slides. Will definitely return for the same adult weekend and hope to bring even more of our friends with us next time! read more

Comfy beds (in the Wave building), excellent blackout curtains, pleasant view on the seaward side, helpful & friendly staff throughout and decent food in the Deck restaurant. Bar prices keener than you'd expect + off sales at the Spar. Plenty of things to keep the kids amused if that's what you need as well as close by the attractive Hotham Park which has a boating pond etc. Close by the beach and only about ten minutes walk from the town centre. A good place to base yourself for seeing the wider region, should the camp entertainments and the town pale after a few days. read more

Myself and my most fabulous friends descended upon Butlins in Bognor Regis for the Mighty Hoop La weekender and I must admit, I did not have high hopes for the facilities. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by the entire complex! Some of us had a chalet and some of us had a hotel room. The chalets were large, clean and close to all of the amenities. I spent most of the weekend playing musical chalets and they were all decent! The hotel room far surpassed what I thought. It was modern, stylish and spacious with regular housekeeping. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The premise of the weekend was 90's and disco music with trashy drag queens, and when they had a ratchet queen and her acquaintance turning up in the middle of the night having lost her key (myself), I was let quickly and without fuss which I wasn't expecting. There was plenty of bars and restaurants, there is a spar shop on site and a swimming pool. The pool large and there was slides to use to but I got thrown out before I could partake! It is also right on the beach! I would recommend to anybody wanting to go for a holiday or to one of their weekenders. I think I will need to return at some point to collect all of the belongings I lost, including my dignity. I never thought I would say this but I wish I was at Butlins! read more

I visited this camp a couple of years ago for an SF convention. I won't go into that (it had its own problems), but the venue was a nightmare. I was sharing with a friend who uses a wheelchair: she can walk short distances, but has chronic severe pain, is sensitive to cold and has sleeping problems. On arrival at the station we found out that the 'accessible' taxis could only take folding chairs, not her powered one, so we had to make our own way to the camp. Not too much fun with heavy bags to carry. We'd been told that the convention goers would have their own area of villas, well away from other groups using the camp that weekend. Our 'accessible' chalet was tiny. Getting the chair in and out was like doing one of those puzzles where you slide bricks about and it had to be left, basically, in the way. It was cold (yes, it was winter, but we'd been told the heating would be up to it) and the sliding door to the loo had to be lifted up so my friend couldn't close it unless I was around to open it again for her. (We also discovered we both snore, and spent the night alternately keeping each other awake, but I guess that's not the venue's fault except we'd had to push the beds together to get the chair in) The second day we did get moved to a newly built accessible two bedroom chalet, which was much nicer. 2 bedrooms, HUGE bathroom, (wet room style so the shower could be used with a chair or a fold-down seat), living room with kitchen. Pretty amazing! (Though I did have to pin some towels over the bathroom windows: staff gave me the pins!). Unfortunately it's there we discovered the other major problem The other big group there that weekend was for Butlin's own 'adults only' weekend. Basically stags, hens and others up for mayhem. Don't get me wrong, SF fans can party. Some of us even drink, and miss the morning talks because we've been up all night. And people have been known to get injured while dancing to 'Star Trekkin' (I'm serious, someone had to go to hospital at one con I went to, and I've had bruises myself). But generally we party in the party area, are fairly quiet on the way back to our rooms, don't play loud music there and shut up if asked. Anyway, we basically got kept up every night after by upstair's loud music and what sounded like acrobatic displays complete with thumping and cheers (though they were too drunk for that), and had to call security several times to shut them up. We didn't have the energy to ask for another move. And it probably wouldn't have helped Back in the SF con's allocated accommodation area they had people from the other group passing through on their way home. Shouting, screaming and banging on all the doors as they went. Very scary apparently. Some friends came back one night to find a couple banging on their doorstep, and in this case I don't mean knocking. If that wasn't enough, we shared some venues. Our talks hall was used for their disco at night. One day I went to kneel in the aisle to take a picture and felt a wet patch. Though it had been slightly cleaned there was still enough vomit in the carpet to leave a lovely pink patch on my jeans. On the last morning I did actually (not politely) ask someone I saw coming out upstairs if they minded they'd wrecked our weekend, to which the (also not polite) response was that no, he just wanted to get laid (he put it somewhat less delicately). Though they were a load of louts, I have to lay the blame with Butlins. They'd come expecting to be able to 'live it up' all weekend, so being told to shut up must have been annoying. They'd also been giving a list of venues available to them, some of which were actually used by us in the evenings, so they'd got short changed on that too. As for general facilities the swimming area was open, but only the same hours as con talks were on, so I never got to use it. For food there were some fast food type places, a supermarket, and a canteen where we got some meals included. I thought the canteen wasn't bad: a bit institutional of course, but a good range of food choices. Some people hated it, but I've had a lot worse. The outside attractions were closed. The big fun fair / amusements type area was open, and was often the quickest route to other places. Clever! While Butlins might be cheap to stay at, this was a total money trap, with coin slots everywhere! Parents taking children, beware Generally I found the staff absolutely lovely, and it's thanks to them this place scrapes 2 stars. (Added note: I did write this before seeing the other reviewers were ex-staff!) However I did rather get the feeling that they knew we'd been screwed, and there was nothing they could do about it. Back in 1997 I started a summer job between college and Uni here. I worked in the clothing stores and was paid £77 with accommodation and food. Back then there was no roof over the site and in winter the carpark flooded. But the present day all is changed. There is a white roof over all venues. Butlins has gone the way of franchise with the likes of Burger King. The music venues have good standard shows on. The food is far better. There is more to do. Also they have more disabled accommodation than before. There is a hotel on site too. Day visitors can enjoy the themed pool. The fun fair is worth checking out too. read more

Ok so let me get this out of the way I hated it here! I stayed for a weekend with my family so I could attend the nearby Goodwood festival of speed, big mistake. I found that we were unable to get to sleep due to the noise from not only the screaming children but the screaming adults as well. After the first night I tried to be as distant from the on site activities as possible as it seemed to be code for scream and run as much as you can. We had to leave early to be at the festival and this was what I enjoyed about my stay the quiet as every one laid in n slept off the hangovers from the night before. I would never return unless an obscene amount of money was offered and even then you would have to wait for my answer. read more

I stayed in self catering accommodation and not the new Hotel - unfortunately! The accommodation was absolutely awful. The carpet was so dirty, smelly and disgusting that we all had to keep our slippers on indoors and not walk round in socks as they would have got filthy. The furnishing were awful too. I went to the office to complain and ended up in a huge queue full of people with various complaints about their accommodation. The member of staff who was dealing with the complaints was very rude telling one customer who complained that her kettle didn't work if that was me I would have boiled a pan instead. I decided not to complain in the end as I could see it was a complete waste of time and would just make me frustrated and angry so we simply stayed away from the accommodation as much as we possibly could only coming back to sleep there. The amenities on site were great for children and families. They had outdoor rides and a lovely outdoor swimming pool plus a great adventure playground. They had similar facilities indoors plus a large indoor swimming pool with slides which my son loved. There are Plenty of places to eat too and the night life was quite good and entertaining. It was also lovely to have the seaside on your doorstep and we went for long walks nearly every day. I would consider returning but would definately stay in the Hotel and would not go near their self catering accommodation. By the way we stayed in Silver Accommodation so goodness knows what the budget accommodation was like I dread to think! read more

You will either love Butlins or loathe it. There does not seem to be any middle ground. I am one of the ones that loves it. I think that it is a really good place to take children away, because if the children are occupied, then you can have a more relaxing break and at Butlins, there is always something for them to do. The swimming pools are great, with big slides etc. The evening entertainment is good, with shows put on by Redcoats or visiting guests. The accommodation is basic, but you don't really go there to spend a lot of time in your chalet. If you want to leave the campsite itself, there is a beach just outside, but it is pebbly, not sandy, or the town centre of Bognor Regis is only 15 minutes walk away. read more

I made the mistake of working here about ten years ago. Of course maybe it's lovely now, but somehow I doubt it. The staff were all paid very low wages, £120 a week minus £50 for room and board. I am curious to how Butlins gets round the new minimum wage laws, but anyway. Not curious enough to be employed there. Redcoats got £50 a week more and their own quarters in proper chalets (baths and fridges hooray for them.) Never go there if you are female, young, in any way attractive. there are certain awful men on the staff who make it a duty to abuse as many women as possible. The doctors surgery was always full of clap cases, although that was mainly due to a woman on the staff who slept with hundreds of fellow workers. The staff quarters where we were housed had a inch wide crack running up the staircase, so basically the place was falling down. My room didn't have a window, just a lightwell shared with 5 other rooms. Every night the staff would get drunk and get rowdy, and at least once a week there was a fight in the huge main nightclub room, possibly the largest room I've ever been in. Took about ten minutes to walk round it. Best things: cheap cinema, free old cinema showing projected dvds, and a massive old snooker hall filled with 12 foot tables. The Irish Pub that had this fantastic singer in who knew every song there was, and the pints of Beamish stout. Worst things: Butlins had a policy of not supplying rooms with towels to stop people nicking them, so they'd have to get them from the hire shop, which made everyone very angry, as related by one of the guys who worked there. And the accommodation was spooky to walk round, feeling a little like deathcamps. The countryside around it is very nice, and I think it is the place where William Blake got arrested for trying it on with a soldier at a pub. God's country. read more

Top stars due to the entertainment, Wave Hotel accommodation and the cost, 70's weekend - The Osmonds, Bay City Rollers to name 2. Great fun weekend, Thur - Mon am. Room was set up for 2 rather than 3 that there was on the facilities, clean, lovely room though. Booze prices the same throughout the Resort, much as such as outside the Resort. Staff friendly and very helpful. The Osmonds slept in same hotel. Burger King - Expensive, The Beachcomber Inn - Pleasant place, seating outside, however limited on Sunday lunches, Bar Rosso - not a lot of inside sitting area, mostly outside, Resort music on a loop, Centre Stage - You have to be really early or have VIP passes to ensure seating. I haven't stayed at Butlins but do go occasionally as a day visitor. My 2 little girls love it and its good value for money. The swimming pool is great it has water slides for adults and children, fountains, wave pool, everything you could want. A lot of the attractions are under the pavilion so its great for rainy days. There is an assortment of arcade machines, bowling, pool, little children's rides a soft play and plenty of places to get food and drink. They have really good shows for the children at various times during the day which are always popular. Outside there is an adventure playground, fairground rides, mini golf, sports academy. You can't get bored. read more

I have been to Butlins 3 times now and it is fantastic. My little boy has an absolute blast. I do need a holiday when I get back though as there is something on all the time but you never get bored. The entertainers work so hard and must see some right little terrors but they are always bouncy and friendly and always have a smile on their face. I have been self catering and half board and always found somewhere and something to eat. The accommodation was very good and we have stayed in the Hotel once and a Silver Apartment. There is plenty to do day and night and the resort is close to the beach. The pool is clean and was so much fun. I would go back in an instant. read more

went to butlins with the kids and my other half. the place was brilliant the hotel was clean and the staff were curteous. they came to our room when we arrived and knew our kids by there names which gave us a feeling of being important. I got to see daryl johnson perform from X factor. The entertainment had me feeling like a big kid again. loved it!! Only down fall was the swimming pool. The changing rooms had dirty plasters on the floor from peoples cuts. It was understaffed as one employee pointed out to me. They have 3000 visitors per week but only a LTD amout of staff on duty at any one time. Also they said they had a sewage problem which made the whole place smell of faeces. I visited the pool the night before I left which left a bad taste in my mouth after all the good fun I had there. read more

Day visitor. I haven't ever stayed here but go fairly frequently as a day visitor. For me another nostalgia thing, used to go there as a kid, now take my own kids, but somehow it feels disappointing now! I guess when I was young there was nowhere else for all the rides and fun stuff and now there's so many places, but I'm just not sure if it is good value as a day out now as there don't seem to be enough things that are 'free' to use with your entry fee, its really geared up to extract more and more money from you at every turn. The one thing that does make it worthwhile though is the pool. This is great fun for kids with wave pools, slides and lots of water chutes and if they're into this then it's worth it read more

Went to butlins bognor regis on 26-02-10 for a seventies weekend and stayed at the shoreline hotel. they had 3 bands on each night and on saturday you had a choice of two venues "reds & centre stage" i was really surprised at how upmarket the hotels were ours only being four years old and the ocean hotel is brand new drinks averaged £3 odd for a pint of coors light on draught, great place to see some old acts still playing good music would definately go back and recommend read more

Been to bognar regis many times although not for a year or two as my kids are getting older now. Loads of things to do here especially if you have younger children. Everything takes place in and around the massive dome tent, and here they have the main entertainment centre which hosts differant acts every evening. They have a large funfair weather permitting which is free and for the younger ones smaller rides. They have a large heated indoor pool with slides and stuff. Bognor is around a 20 min walk away and has a good selection of shops. read more

we've been here 3 times now (kids age 18months & 4 years old) - its brilliant! Its kid heaven - huge swimming pool with waterslides & a brill boat ride, entertainment 24-7, free rides, puppet shows, character meets. Can't understand some people who go here without kids (in the main season) then moan about noise ect - if you aint got kids don't go here!! simple really. We stayed in the shoreline hotel this year & it was fantastic - my kids got to visit Billy Bear (Butlins 'mascot') in his room & have breakfast with him one morning. If you've got kids under 10 you can't go wrong with a few days away here. read more

Arrived at Butlins, Bognor Regis on the 18th March for the Skool Reunion weekend. When we got there, we were given our keys and allowed to check in immediately and it must of only been midday. We had the silver apartments, and they were amazing; clean, lots of drinking space and hangover space! The other half of the group opted for bronze apartments, and they were rubbish! But our room was lovely. We were self catering also, as 1.we didn't really plan on eating much 2. we wouldn't have been up in time for breakfast and too drunk by dinner time and 3. we wanted to venture out of the park to Bognor Regis. Oh, and although the staff were so helpful bringing us loo roll at early hours of the morning, I'd recommend taking your own toilet roll (just incase!) We went to the Sun and Moon pub for some karaoke, the Silent Disco, Centre Stage and Jak's during our 3 nights. Would HIGHLY recommend the Silent Disco, we had such a good laugh in there and spent the earlier stages of our nights there! The music was a bit repetitive over the three nights, it was as if they had a 20 song playlist in each place, but after a few drinks you don't seem to mind. When we went out into the town for lunches and dinners was where we experienced most of our disasters! Found the corner or a milk carton in ice creams, AND had the rankest fish and chips going. But that's irrelevant because its not Butlins. As a young group of girls, noise until the early hours wouldn't have bothered us, but it was quiet throughout the night. We spent our last day, hiring out the 'chucklevision cart' (a 5 man bicycle), going on the rides in the funfair and on the go karts. Overall, we had an incredible weekend and can't wait to book our next adults weekend with Butlins, just be prepared for lots and lots of alcohol!!! :-) read more

I am extremely disappointed with our recent stay at the Ocean Hotel Bognor Regis! The staff at the hotel stole property from my room! A member of staff entered our room whilst I was still a paying customer and took my GHD hair straighteners. My partner had an allergic reaction to something overnight in our hotel room, went in to anaphylactic shock and was rushed to hospital so we made the decision to leave a day early. On the way home (late evening) I realised I had left my straighteners in the room. I immediately called the hotel. The receptionist told me not to drive back and that a member of housekeeping would contact me the next morning to organise them to be posted back. A week later after daily phone calls to the hotel that just rang with no reply we were finally told that the straighteners have gone missing and they have refused to do anything about. We also received information from the head office that a member of staff had actually entered the room on the evening we had left which would've been some time after 10pm! Most likely to take my straighteners! Head office were not at all helpful and said they were not willing to help us in any way with this matter. Not what I would expect from Butlins at all! We really had hoped to resolve this situation amicably with Butlins as we have enjoyed our previous stays at the resort but because of the way we have been treated they have left us with no choice now but to contact the police and report this theft. This has really opened my eyes to the type of organisation that this is, where customers are treated with such disregard. Butlins were not willing to follow up internally at all, and instead choose to leave it down to the customer to have to resolve a matter that I feel Butlins should hold responsibility for after I put my trust in members of staff employed by Butlins. It is a real shame that I now would not return to this resort as I would not feel as though my belongings were safe. I also found out afterwards that a similar situation had happened with another guest at this hotel, around the same time we stayed there and all his clothes went missing from his room! read more

we went to butlins for the first time this year with the kids 10,9,7,3,and 2 year old and they loved every minute of it there is loads to do. a fair ground outdoor and indoor wich is free. swimming baths bike rides.and for the younger ones theres bob the builder ,pingu ,barney,ben 10 lots more.the accommodation was also good you can have bed an breakfast or just buy some food from the local tesco wich is just off site 5 min drive .the staff are really friendly we cant wait to go back next year read more

went to butlins for christmas bognar cost £1000 never again christmas dinner was poor frozan veg still frozen blood red sasauges wrapped in undercooked bacon not real turkey some manafactured meat avoid butlins at christmas was told we would be have a time slot for dinner no us and about 300 other guests all eating together in confrence rooms. read more

we started our hoilday on friday 4th march with 2 kids both under 4. We arrived at the park no one to greet you. didnt know where to go to check in got to the silver+ apartment and it was on the second floor very arkward when you,ve got 2 kids and all suitcases to carry when kids are screaming we later found out that the hot water system was not workin in our apartment and found it very hard to sterlise the baby bottles and wash up in cold water?we had to text them of a mobile and use credit thats the only way you can contact them we got moved to a standard when we payed for a silver+ which they reckon was a silver?complained to reception and all we got was a bottle of cheap perry?took us a whole4 day to move to other side of park all the entertainment was the same all week?BARNEY ALL WEEK even the kids got bored and ended up wantin to go to bed?there was nothing for kids under 5 the restraurant are a joke very expensive £11.95 for adults and £7.95 for 2 to 9 year olds very disgusted and disappointed and would not reccomend this hoilday to anyone even if it was the last place on earth the only decent thing was the redcoats who were very good with the kids?would not go BUTLINS AGAIN!!! read more
