Well, three of us were out a motorcycle ride this morning. I decided to ride up to Tonto Basin to butchers Hook restaurant. Haven't been there in a couple years. Don't know why I guess I just don't get up that way that often perfect day to be on the Bike stopped in and had a little breakfast. I had steak and eggs a friend of mine and she had steak and eggs and her husband had eggs and bacon and sausage and biscuits everyone had a delicious meal was made. Perfect just the way we wanted it. Our waitress was awesome. I don't know if you call them waitresses or food servers. I don't mean to be demeaning either way she was awesome. Either way I saw a place I saw a hole in the wall check it out I think you'll enjoy it if you're up that way. read more

Location; great little spot off hwy 188, we were on our way back into town and found this little spot and stopped off for breakfast. Food; Yummy traditional plate with egg, bacon, potatoes and toast. I stumbled in here overly hungry on a Friday only to find out it was Fish Fry Friday. Score! The cod was properly coated and fried and the hushpuppies had a little jalapeno kick. The fries were piping hot and the coleslaw was very nicely balance. Fresh rolls are served on the table with butter and meals can be topped off with a variety of fresh pies. We choose the peach! Meals are about 12.50-14.00 and pie is about 4.00. I love little dives like this in the middle of nowhere and this place is sure to satisfy your cravings. If you are too full from your meal, take the pie home or back to camp, it's worth it! Say hi to Butchers Hookers, they love their fishing. read more

Ate here several times while staying at the adjacent RV park. We both tried the Fish Basket, four massive half-bricks of cod, fries, and slaw, done just right (I had to box one home, something I never do). The chicken-fried steak was a hamburg patty, with instant potatoes (not our favorite) and some tasty cowboy caviar (bean/veggie mix). Even though my ideal Reuben is corned beef, their pastrami version was taste perfection. We plan on sampling their chorizo burrito before pulling out. Friday night service was hectic, and overwhelmed the three servers on staff, our only negative experience. read more

Delicious food. I ate the chicken fried steak or chicken. I can't recall, but it was so delicious! One of the best I've ever eaten. Mashed potatoes and gravy was flavorful. My boys ate from their children's menus (chicken tenders) and they loved them. I had a bite of their chicken tenders and the chicken was tender. I had my in-laws visiting from France and they were impressed with the food. The young lady who was the server was so sweet and fun (we came on a Saturday evening). We have been going there for lunch or breakfast about every other week. Today is the last day. The food was fine service was fine. Prices have gone out of control. $24 for one sandwich amd 2 side salads that consisted of 2 cherry tomatoes 2 slices of cucumber. Lettuce a little cheese. and water to drink. Is ridiculous. Normally @15. So this is the end of going back to butcher hook. I am sad to say, I have gone to much higher class establishments and never paid this. We have been going to the "Hook" for many years. It has recently sold and the new owners have not been able to keep it as it was in the past. Our meal yesterday was ok. The fish platter was average. Too many green peppers in the coleslaw and even the tarter sauce. The cost is very expensive. Will most likely find other places to eat out when in the area or just stay at home and grill. read more

Gotta Love Butcher Hook in Tonto Basin Down home, Old West, friendly staff, huge portions, lots of menu choices and good food. That about says it all. We've been for breakfast and lunch, although Butcher Hook also serves dinner with prime rib available on the weekends. Biscuits and gravy is one of my favorite breakfasts and Butcher Hook does it up right. The biscuits are made on site, flaky and tender. The gravy actually has bits of pork sausage, most gravies don't or if they do it's such a tiny amount it adds no flavor at all. The dish was piping hot. Brian had the ham and cheese omelet served with hash browns and your choice of white, wheat, rye, sourdough, English muffin, or a side of biscuit and gravy. The omelet was fluffy and filled with lots of tangy ham and rich cheese. For lunch we had French dip sandwiches served with your choice of sides. The beef was crispy on the edges and tender in the middle. The bun was toasted which means it could soak up more of the au jus, that's a fancy French term for beef juice. Just lovely. Décor? Well there isn't much. The booths are a bit worn. The walls are decorated with Western photos including the dam at Roosevelt Lake. The staff? Who needs décor when the staff is so friendly? When you walk in you're greeted with smiles. The service is prompt. You get what you need when you need it, but the wait staff isn't overbearing. They also don't rush you out the door. We had breakfast Sunday morning. The place was busy but we didn't feel like we had to bolt the food down and leave. We had a nice leisurely meal and stuck around reading the paper for awhile. Of course, we would have left if the tables were all full. If you're up in Tonto Basin make sure you make a stop at Butcher Hook. read more

OMG!!! I have gone over 4 peaks many times to find this jewel in the middle of nowhere. I have been eating here for over 5yrs and have not ever got anything I did not like. Lastnight I had the open face roast beef sandwich with the sweet potato fries. I have had the french dip before and it is probly my favorite dish they have. Coffee is great! They are connected to a bar that is alot of fun as well. Especially when the power goes out during a storm, thats when everyone with no power goes there..lol read more

The table behind them left when they got their food (one had the wrong order, another had bacon that was clearly not fresh). The waitresses kept asking for forgiveness, but it was rough. Had burgers here - best burgers outside of the burgers I make myself. I was going to order the Louie Burger but the look on the waitress' face made me back off. Ordered a regular burger with cheese, bacon and all the trimmings. Could hardly bite into it, it was so big. No skimping on the bacon either. These are flamed broiled too. My husband ordered the Louie burger - big burger!! He ate the whole thing. They claim it's a pound of burger but I question that. Maybe 1/2 lb. Regardless, it's BIG and very tasty.
