We walked out there with the dogs (which are welcome and the pub even provide treats and water) and had a lovely Sunday lunch on their terrace followed by a game of table tennis in the garden. It's not just the garden and the settings that make this place so wonderful, it's the service, the food, the home made honey and everything that goes with it. The worst thing about the Wheatsheaf is having to leave. Highly recommended.

In fact it is one of the nicest places I've been to in the Bristol/Bath area. So there. The pretty stone building covered in creeper sits in the centre of the tiny village of Kelston, right on the roadside. You know it'll be good, and you're not disappointed. Duck inside the door and you're faced with two bars serving several small but characterful rooms draped with hops and flagstone floors. Beers are as expected - Bath Ales and Ashton Press ciders amongst others. I didn't eat there - but the sizes of the sarnies being brought out from the kitchen sure looked spectacular - we're talking doorstopper of thick cheddar and pickle. Actually, I wish I did eat there and I'm going back.... For summery days there's a secluded back garden, where you can't even hear the main road.

Room 4 has a large bathroom and a reasonably sized bedroom with a four poster bed. The style is very traditional and comfortable. Room 4 also includes it's own small lounge with bed setee and TV. Room 3 is more modern in finish and includes a large bathroom and a large bedroom which has a modern four poster bed (that creaks a lot when you turn over!) and a bed setee. Both rooms were clean and well finished but room 4 felt that style had triumped over function to some extent. The inn has a large car park (very necessary as it gets busy) and a slightly tired children's play area. Children are welcome in selected parts of the pub. One unusual feature is a sit on diesel train they run in the garden. I would have given 5 stars but for the slight disappointment with Room 3 and also because whilst we were there they had a leak in the family room but instead of closing that section they just put a bucket there and expected people to put up with the smell of damp carpets (until a member of staff responded to our comments and found us somewhere elses to go). They have an extensive restaurant serving meals all day either from the specials board, carvery or lunch / evening menu. There's a great choice in food - veggies are well catered for and the fish dishes are very popular. I've been here on several occasions and the restaurant is usually busy and always very ably managed by Sonja the landlady. The prices are about average; £4 for a starter and £7.25 for lasagne with salad and garlic ciabatta but there are also sometime lunchtime special deals. All the staff here are very friendly, polite and accommodating and the atmosphere is homely and hospitable. There's some entertainment in the evenings and all you can eat buffets on Thursdays are only £9.95 per person and run alternately with Indian and Mexican food.

I was so bored and miserable because he kept getting them wrong and he was wearing baggy trousers without a belt. He kept pulling up his trousers and there were some nice ladies there who had to keep looking away because his big ugly bum kept going on show. Eventually they complained and the manager had to come and ask jack to do the tricks outside in the pouring rain. Jack got upset and started asking around if anyone liked magic and everyone groaned and said no please go away. The staff were really nice about it though and the drinks and food was good.
