I went there today to buy food on my EBT card and since their machine was not working the manager said in a negative tone and nasty disposition that we are going to "get rid of EBT..." okay ..... why did he feel the need to be condescending to me, for just being a loyal customer - I will make sure to not go there anymore and Ill let my people know too. There was no need for his nasty attitude - the manager was rude read more

If I live in the neighborhood, then I would likely be shopping here weekly. Unfortunately, I live too far away. However, I still come here every once in a while specifically for the food counter. This review is for their Friday special, Fish & Chips. I have suggested to the servers that they should sell it everyday, and I plan to continue advising them. It's a top seller and everyone can't seem to get enough. They regularly sell out by early evening. This past Friday, I stopped by again for this wonderful delicacy that sells by the pound. The large piece of cod I got was only a little over $8. Crispy and crunchy, though slightly oily, this tender piece of fried fish hit the spot. Don't forget to ask for the tartar sauce and malt vinegar. Protip: Tell the servers that you will wait for a fresh batch and they will honor that request. They constantly sell out and make a new batch every 15-30 minutes during peak hours. read more

Just went to go pick up my pork roast for Christmas dinner. They seasoned and tied the roast for me. Great service and very friendly. I've also had the deli sandwiches. Very good and it's a generous sandwich. read more

A startlingly great selection of Irish groceries here, starting with the meat counter. This is where we go to get our annual portion of boiling bacon, the true traditional Irish meal. The freezer is loaded with snacks you won't find anywhere else. An NY,C treasure! read more

Some of the best breakfast sandwiches in the city and a huge selection of hard to find imports

When in Sunnyside, be sure to pop into this wonderful gem for the best meats, hot table, house-made sausages and imported goods. Perhaps best of all, it brings back the charm of a bygone era with kind and friendly service. read more

Nice butcher shop and grocery store. They have a wonderful selection of Irish and UK imports. The butcher area has Irish bangers, rashers, as well as your traditional offerings of beef, pork, and chicken. The butcher gave us cooking instructions for our purchases and was incredibly helpful. Prices are reasonable too. read more

Very friendly. Great selection of meat, Irish foods and yummy snacks. The food is similar to what I ate as a kid growing up in the UK. Super friendly staff. The only complaint: Their produce is mediocre. read more

Review is for the food counter section. Got a scotch egg and an Irish breakfast sandwich. Scotch egg was GIANT. The layer of sausage was extremely generous and basically doubled the size of the egg or more. The Irish breakfast sandwich was delicious. Definitely very hearty. Has 2 sausage, 2 egg, 2 black pudding. Absolutely worth it would return. My salt and cholesterol levels that day were probably off the charts, but it was a fun experience. May also pick up some other British snacks next time. Can't speak for the lineup. Where I did walk, it seemed like a fairly normal grocery store in offerings. Maybe a smattering of additional items. I think most of the British things were the snacks like chocolates, crisps, etc. Didn't snag any this time, but would be interested to peruse more in the future. read more

Quick tip, if ordering Burnt Ends, make a double order. I enjoyed myself and was satisfied.

Butcher Block is such a great neighborhood grocery store. I love trying new products and brands that you can't get anywhere else. I'll regularly get their sausage rolls from the deli as well as their Shepards pie and chicken pot pie. It would be great if they had more breakfast sandwich options though - maybe a BEC? Their chips selection is incredible. I've become a major fan of the Keogh's sweet chili chips. Some varieties they carry in the small one serving bags and other they have larger bags. It's fun trying new flavors like worcestershire and marmite - both were actually tasty. And there are so many sweets - you could try a new one each day! I also have tried Lucozade - the Irish version of Gatorade. It's tasty! They have a sport and energy version. I like them both but the energy is my favorite because it has a nice effervescence to it. I'd like to try more of their meal options from their deli since they have a large sandwich menu. Either way, I always leave with something when I stop in. They do close early for a grocery store so be sure to check their hours in advance. read more

Fantastic butcher shop. a friend whose father was a butcher says this place is the best! Very helpful staff. Butcher counter has raw but prepared chicken cordon bleu, for example. Carries the British versions of foods, they're much better and healthful than the American ones. A bit pricey but worth it if you have the money. read more

This store has a great butcher counter. Every recommendation I've gotten from their butcher has turned out great. Their stuffed chicken is very good. It's easy to cook and delicious. In addition they have a great prepared foot counter which I frequent when we don't want to cook. Plus they have all the Irish products you could want without being there. And best of all the people are very nice. The butcher Block is a great store well run. I enjoy shopping there. read more

Very nice staff. Very fresh food! Very amazing tomahawk steak, that you can't find anywhere same day! I wanted to buy everything lol. But my wife will kick my axx ! I like the super market, it's very organized and clean, very easily find what I was looking for. Highly recommend ! read more

Service was good and the food was delicious. Tough to get to but would go back here. I liked it

Solid solid solid British food. We trek here to get supplies to make our full English breakfast and they truly have the best quality items out there. They have all the classic British brands, snacks, candies, drinks etc and their fresh food is absolutely fantastic. The staff is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Especially the gentlemen behind the breakfast counter, they seem like they love being there and serve you with a smile and answer any questions you might have. Today we opted to get the Irish breakfast sandwich instead of bringing food home to cook, it was BRILLIANT. Tastes just like our days living in the UK, my fiancé even likened it to his mums full English, which is VERY high praise. Can't wait until next time! read more

Excellent gourmet selection. Huge Irish food selection for your blood sausage emergencies.

Wow! I'm happy this place exists. My wife was thrilled at being able to find all her favorite goodies from the British Isles. From real Cadbury chocolate, to digestives, to blood pudding, this place has it all. The gentleman at the cash registered was exceptionally helpful. You could sense his vicarious enthusiasm. Go. It's worth it. read more

Pretty cool place. Decent selection of English and Irish grocery items (much better than one can find in Manhattan). Prices are a bit on the expensive side but kind of expected given a lot of the items were imported. Just one itsy bitsy gripe- A lot of the items do not have prices either in the vicinity, on the shelf or on the product itself. I didn't ask anyone for prices because then I'd have to keep asking them a few times- it wasn't worth it. I just bought whatever had prices and were within budget. They have a hot food section that looked good but didn't get anything (perhaps next time). read more

The best meat at reasonable prices. Delicious dinners with generous portions. Good service with friendly honest help.

On weekends I love stopping by with here for a meal that will put me into a food coma. Roast beef with double portion of side of mashed potato+gravey. The roast is not over cooked and sliced thin. rate 4/5 If you go late on weekends all the good stuff maybe gone. Parking is a challenge in this neighborhood but the line in the store moves very fast. read more

I've been a regular customer of Butcher Block for almost 20 years, and the last 4 of them have been very disappointing and find my visits here becoming fewer and fewer, but today will have certainly been my last until major upgrades are made, between the lack of flavor in the recipes of the hot food and the fact that the counter guys just make up their own prices as they go is insane. Not to mention you have to check items for expiration or you can get stuck with something over a year old. Time for management to make drastic changes. read more

Although they have good grocery items , I really come here for the hot food. With the prices and the portions you can't beat it and always good. They have different meats like roast beef glazed pork , chicken cutlets/ parm pork Marsala , while roasted chickens and many more with sides such as mash potato potatoes , baked ziti . The meals Come with one meat a side and a veggie .. they have soups empanadas , Irish classics such as Shepard's pie They provide a weekly menu so they have different things everyday great sunnyside staple read more

The prices are out of hand compared to the shops and butchers on McLean avenue in the Bronx. Sure maybe it's more expensive to run a business in Woodside, but some the price differences are shocking. read more

ALWAYS double check the BEST BEFORE date on any purchase you make in this store because sadly they are now FAMOUS for selling multiple long past their SELL BY DATE products. Today I bought a bar of Cadbury's chocolate that had a weird chalky flavor. I looked at the Best Before date and it had expired fully ONE YEAR and one month before purchase and yet they were STILL offering it to unsuspecting customers. Gross. This kind of business practice shows utter contempt for customers. There have been far too many examples already in this store. They still have Christmas products at FULL price on the shelves in February. read more

Unfortunately, Butcher Block has lost two customers for good. On multiple occasions, my partner and I have noticed price inconsistencies when we've been run up at the cash register. Goods costing more than labeled. Goods mis-priced on shelves. My last straw was being given a different tag for a meat that was more money per pound than what I originally ordered. I'm glad I caught it when I was checking out. Honest mistakes happen, but not at a place that consistently tries to come up a few dollars on every sale. This is a convenient neighborhood grocery store that services the community living around the 40th Street station. Their prepared foods are delicious, and they consistently have good music on. But alas, we're not coming back. read more

This review is long overdue. I haven't been here for a while, but I use to come here often when I was nearby for lunch. I always had a satisfactory meal here. I always use to the the corn beef for lunch or chicken cutlet or any hot food that caught my eye. The portions they give are good. I def recommend this spot if you are looking for quick bite for lunch. The only caveat is street parking is a pain sometimes. read more

usually 5 stars, but logging a 3 star due to a recent purchase. bought malteasers a few weeks ago (in june)...pumped to satisfy a sweet tooth craving...pop one in my mouth... rubbery, plastic-y, and off. checked the box...it expired in march. craving not satisfied, wept like a baby read more

It was decent some good and not so good things. Butcher counter was good, friendly staff although expensive...3 different items bought were fresh. Tried the ham and the Turkey freshly prepared and both were ok. Macaroni and slaw seemed to lack flavor. Place seemed cluttered and needs daily upkeep and a good cleaning. I would return to try again. Worth a trip for the butcher counter. read more

It's hard for me to give a bad review to a store that sells Spezi, regardless of how pricey it is. For people who don't know, Spezi is a mix of orange soda and coke and I got quite acquainted with it back when I went to Germany. Sure their drinks are pricier but then again it's no longer in Euros so it isn't super overpriced. I don't know of many other places that sell this in the city so I was quite happy to find this among other European sodas/snacks. I'm kind of happy I'm not usually in the area or else I'd stop here quite often. In terms of Irish stuff, their sausage roll was good also. It was buttery and a good snack for the price. Nice large specialist shop. Mid 3. read more

The best way I can describe Butcher Block is part butcher, part grocery store, and part lunch spot. Well known for their daily food specials and big time meaty cuts, this local joint is among the most popular in the hood. Lastly, for Irish cuisine loving folks who don't feel like getting their food in a restaurant, this is the place to do it. To be honest, if I'm going to Butcher Block, I'm less likely to shop for groceries / pantry items and most likely going for sausage links or a serious lunch. As of late, it's been mostly the latter, and I've had at least option from their daily special enough to call myself a regular. The platters are no joke. For $8-9 (often times without tax!), they stuff an entree of your choice with a side of mash, rice, or veggies. And by stuff, they really do stack the food till they have problems shutting the lid. I am sure the platter usually weighs between 2-3 Ibs when its over. No joke. Hot turkey carvings, beef stew, and their corned beef have been my winners as of late. The mac and cheese, curry chicken, and shepherd's pie have been good on occasion, but the chicken parm, fish and chips, and pork masala have been misses almost every time. From the cold foods section, shoot for the mac salad, potato salad, and scotch eggs - all of which are very solid. Beware of coming here 8pm and after - the food has been sitting out awhile and is usually tossed immediately after. Do take advantage of the delivery if you happen to live nearby, it's free and there is no minimum. Shoot for between 11-3pm for in person pick up. read more

No doubt the only place to get a fresh roast beef sandwich in Sunnyside Queens!! When the meat is rare, I am in heaven, some salt, pepper, coleman mustard, and a little mayo on a hero!! Yummy!!! Their meatloaf has gotten better, before it was just overwhelming with onions!! Now, the last time there were not that many onions and they were cut down to tiny bits otherwise its terrible, unless you are an onion lover. I like their meatloaf sandwich. They gut the top of the roll like a wheel and fill it with gravy and then add a large slice of meatloaf then close the sandwich with the bottom of the roll and wrap it up in foil which allows the flavors to blend, now can you visualize the delicious mess when you bite into this meatloaf sandwich. On Friday's I am a big fan of their crispy crunchy cod fish with chips. I really enjoy their Friday soup of the day which is a seafood chowder which is so lightly creamy, but still made with cream filled with chunks of fish and some veggie goodies, I am not sure what some of the veggies are because once in a while you can scoop up a spoonful of soup and it can be ridiculously spicy but I think it works perfectly together to me its a delicious mix. read more

This grocery store has a hot food section in the back. I read about it on a list of the city's best pastrami sandwiches and wanted to try it for myself. Unassuming and with friendly counter service, the sandwich ended up being delicious. Juicy, moist and the perfect amount of fat to make it feel truly indulgent. An excellent sandwich for sure. read more

The food you can't find anywhere. It's like hugs from across the pond. Tuesdays is the Best, huge ham sandwich day!

What a fun store to visit! You can feel like you're in another world with their range of UK and Irish goods. From a full Irish breakfast, whiskey based chocolates, teas, beans and my favorites crisps and chocolates. I really wanted to find the Cadbury advent calendar but only saw the galaxy one. Wonder if they have the Cadbury or it's all sold out..? I'll definitely have to come back again to try their prepared foods. For now I can't wait to tuck into the crispy and Cadbury chocolates. read more

The Food is good and they have a large stock of Irish and English foods and the meats are second to none as far as I am concerned, but there prices have become so high, it's hard to buy regular groceries and hot foods there. I really like this grocery -- good selection, products not easily found elsewhere, and really good prepared comfort food from their kitchen. I've gone here for years, but after the last couple of visits I'm done with them. A strange thing has happened the past few weeks -- they seem to have decided to stop marking prices. For about 3/4 of the things I planned to buy on the most recent visit, there was no indication what something cost. No sign, no marking on the shelf, no tag on the product. It's infuriating. I have always felt their prices were fair, if a little high, but it's ridiculous to expect people to buy stuff when they can't know what it costs. read more

Found this lovely little shop when I was in NY and spent a small fortune, not that the prices are terrible, but being a displaced Brit there were so money choices of things I hadn't had in ages. Prior to returning home there were some meat products that I had to bring home, the breakfast pack and black pudding of course. I spoke with Noel, who happily agreed to freeze anything I wanted to bring back to Florida for me. Needless to say, all meet products made it home safely. Fast forward to today when I finally decided to cook them. They are absolutely AMAZING! Some of the best sausages and black pudding I've had in years. It's absolutely the best white pudding I've EVER had. Thank you Noel for helping me get these home safely. I suspect I'll be calling you again and getting this shipped! Oh almost forgot, the sausage rolls from the deli are much better than mine that are homemade. Should have brought them read more
