Busáras is the worst place on earth. The buses are almost always late, the bathrooms are disgusting and there are an awful lot of scary lurkers outside, between the doors and within the seating area, looking for money, cigarettes and whatever else. It's generally an unsafe and unpleasant place. It's the worst mode of transport, but there's nothing to be don about it, for the majority of their customers it's the only means of transport available. Bus Áras is the place to go if you want to go down the country (as train fares are ruinously expensive), and it is located across the road from a Dart station, on the Red Line of the Luas, and is a couple of minutes walk from O'Connell St. On the handful of occasions that I have had the necessity of leaving Dublin, Bus Áras had reasonably frequent buses, and it was a very straightforward matter of finding the right bus. So in terms of the service provided, it ticked all the right boxes. But that isn't really what this posting is about. The actual Bus Áras building itself is fantastic. Look at the car-azily frilled portico, and the remorseless modernist design of the office block itself. Bus Áras is the building that Hawkins House or Liberty Hall could have been. It is a little sooty and grimy from all the bus fumes, but that is only to be expected. One of Dublin's architectural gems. read more

Having traveled very, very extensively via bus in South America, I can say that Busaras might be one of the cutest bus stations I have ever been to. Don't let the high ceiling fool you. It's teeny. There are only a few ticket windows, and subsequently only a few slots for buses to pull in. As a result, it's extremely manageable and you'll never be confused where your bus is. The staff is helpful, and if you did have a question about where you bus is I'm sure they wouldn't laugh at your face for being such a dunce. The only thing I didn't like was that people tend to line up kind of beside the doors that lead to the buses, not directly in front of them, and several meters away from them. Things can get kind of messy. As the line degenerates into a jumble and then people get mad at other people for getting in front of them in the jumble. read more

At least it's indoors? Not sure what else good to say. It was freezing inside anyway, so not even sure that being protected from the elements is better. It's got a decent amount of seating and clear display boards, plus it's staffed and there are police around. I never felt unsafe, except maybe in the bathrooms, but that's because they are downstairs and it's not well lit. But this bus station is in desperate need of upgrades and more amenities (ATM, more options for food/drink with longer hours, vending machines that take credit cards, etc.). Hopefully it gets modernized soon. read more

This is the central bus station in Dublin. It is served by the red luas line and it is adjacent to Connolly station. It is the place to get buses that service the whole of Ireland and the airport. It is a typical bus terminal, it has many newsagents and sandwich bars inside. The buses for the most part run on time, tickets are cheaper if bought on-line. It's the cheapest form of transport to explore the rest of Ireland. read more

Ok, a bus station is never going to be a delight. This is the central bus station of Dublin, and it does what it is supposed to do, ie taking passengers from point A to point B without any major fuss. That's fine. There are a few very basic (overpriced and manky) cafés and one little newsagency to pass the time. The ticket machines usually work, and the information on the display board is also very easy to follow. All well there. However, this is not a place anyone would care to linger. The toilets are like the one from Trainspotting. (They even used to make you pay to go there!). As one other reviewer said, the waiting area (and some of the buses) attract dangerously lecherous men, which the staff do nothing about. And always, always, the first thing that happens when you walk out the door is that you are set upon by angry beggars demanding cigarettes. (Welcome to Dublin, tourists!). Overall, it does what it is supposed to do reasonably well, but everything else is beyond horrible. read more

My review needs an update so that I can caution other poor souls who might find themselves in a similar situation. When I took the bus to Galway last Thursday, my friend and I got creeped on by a male passenger. The man who was in his mid-thirties sat in an aisle seat close to me and stared at me and my friend for an hour and a half. We would have moved but it was a packed bus. I repeatedly told him to stop talking and looking at me but he persisted. At one point, he muttered lewd remarks and tapped me on the foot. When we pulled into a pit-stop, I alerted the bus driver but the pervert ran off before he could be confronted. This update is to advise all passengers, especially the ladies, aboard Bus Eireann to report suspicious passengers to the bus driver. Don't wait like I did. Speak up as soon as something strange happens. read more

The one thing that's consistent here, is that you'll be left standing waiting for your bus til the last couple of moments. Then there's a mad rush to get your bag in the storage and back to the end of the queue with you! Not a pleasant place to wait around in, it can get rough so keep your belongings close to you, toilets don't afford much privacy either - though this is for health and safety reasons. There is a small amount of locker storage downstairs, you can also buy your tickets from a self service machine. The shop and coffee dock are very basic and quite expensive, but there's nowhere else within a 5 minute walk of here for you to eat. Most of the staff around here are quite friendly though. Some of the last buses going to the other side of the country can leave earlier than you'd expect, so always check the website for up to date timetables. read more

As a bus terminal and ticket purchasing point, Busaras serves its purpose well. It's not too dirty or dodgy as is the danger with transport waiting bays in general. It's bright enough and runs quite efficiently in my experience. It's served by the Luas line, is a stone's throw from Connolly Station and less than 10 minutes walk from O'Connell Street. I'm not a hugely experienced bus traveller so I've only had cause to pop in here on a few occasions. I did find once or twice that it wasn't clear where my bus was going from so I was on high alert walking up and down in front of the building. More seasoned travellers would not have this problem, I'm sure. read more

Busaras was one of the first places in Dublin I became familiar with (before I discovered Iarnrod Eireann's 10 euro train fares!) Countless times have I queued at the sliding doors, waiting to board my bus to Galway or Kilkenny. As far as bus terminals go, it ain't half bad. Although I can never figure out why the dedicated waiting room is tucked away to the back of the terminal. Surely it would be more convenient out in front, where you can actually see the buses pulling into the station? Once a friend and I decided to go on an overnighter to another Irish city. We weren't sure where we wanted to visit, so we just rocked up to Busaras and decided to take our chances on the next departing bus. Luckily for us, it was heading for Kilkenny, not Naas or Drogheda. Hmmm, that could have been an interesting tourist experience! I love the big orange signs at Busaras, which show all the departing buses and the stops they make. It gives the place that exciting feel that airports have - you know, the feeling of really GOING somewhere. Love it. read more

Terrible service. Used it around 5 times and never again. Tremendously slow service, stops at every hole in the hedge - cannot get in contact with their customer service centres anywhere outside Dublin. Ever view their website? It looks like it was designed by a 12 year old who just kept on adding gidgets and gizmos from a free web builder! Never again, there are more private companies out there who make travelling from A to B pretty damn simple. read more

As bus stations go, this does a very efficient job at fufilling it's function. Frequent routes that are displayed on large, easy to understand timetables on LED screens. Ticket machines are quick and easy. They also except cards. Getting to or from here is easy, the luas drops directly to the door or it is just 5 min walk from O'Connol st. The facilities is the only reason why this only gets 3 stars. The toilets are filthy. They need to be updated urgently. It is very uncomfortable to use them. There is a bad cafe that sells overprice, inedible food. The newsagents is good, but is way to cramped. Apart from this, there are a few scattered vending machines. If leaving luggage for the day, the luggage lockers downstairs seem to be quite overpriced. TL;DR Don't use the toilets. read more

I like this place, its is easy to understand where to go when getting a bus unlike some of the ones throughout the rest of the country.

I hadn't been here in ages until recently and I thought it had improved slightly. Just slightly. There is a very grotty Eason's where you can buy a paper or a magazine. And there are sandwich and coffee bars, all run by that brand Gerards, which means the same thing is being sold everywhere. Nothing is cheap either but that is typical of a station. The loos (and lockers) are downstairs and you feel a bit like you're taking your life into your hands going down there. It's 20 cent to get in and honestly, it doesn't seem all that safe! It's like going into the dungeons or something. They need to be brightened up at the very least - a lick of paint wouldn't go astray. read more

I prefer trains. They're quicker and you can actually get stuff done on them (reading in buses/cars makes me feel ill). And you get more space. But considering the ridiculous discrepancy between prices, it's the bus that tends to win out every time. On the plus side, Busáras is far far handier to get to than Heuston. Smack bang in the middle of the city, right next to both the LUAS and DART, as well as a myriad of city buses. Not too bad. The queues can be a bit annoying, but if you've got any kind of brain (or just read this), skip the poor confused tourists and hit the ticket vending machines. There's never really a queue there and they're so so so much faster to use. Because the drivers can get a bit antsy if you try and pay on the bus itself, let's be fair. It's grand, you don't have to be too early for the bus, they do tend to leave on time and it's cheap as hell (€19 return to Cork?). Just beware...they do have a tendency to stop at every godforsaken wee village on the way. read more

The bus station is fine but the cafe gerards is a awful place, I bought basic lunch that cost me a fortune there i asked for hot water to warm baby bottle and they charged me 50 cents.. i was shocked! I know it was not much but it was the principle for all i spend.. 50 cents for just hot water.. The staff were not very friendly. i am not going back there in a hurry! read more
