It can baffle the mind how few people are aware of this feline sanctuary. They are doing great work…read morehere for these big cats and a few other animals in their care. And every paid visit helps continue what they're doing for these creatures. A visit here includes detailed information about the sanctuary, its founders, and all the animals in their care. Crazy rescue stories, behavior and personalities of the big cats, and the expansion plans in progress to give more area to the animals. Located in Louisburg, KS, it can be a long drive to get there from downtown Kansas City, but it's totally worth it. And if you can, be sure to come during feeding time for even more educational information about the diets of these beautiful animals. Our tour guide was very informative, but may have tried to relay too much information as several in our group tended to wander as if losing interest. The group was 50/50 adults and children. The group in front of us moved out of sight while the group behind, caught up and had to wait, due in particular to our guide imparting a lot of information. I was touched by the fact that these animals came from private homes where they were neglected for the most part and in some cases, abused. I think Cedar Cove has done an excellent job caring for these wonderful creatures. It's a drive out but worth the trip to learn and support their efforts.

Our "kids" are in their 20's and it is still one of our favorite family activities. Two hour shifts that go by so fast and we have rarely ever gotten the sane area in all these years!! Grab your family, coworkers, friends or just join when available and make a difference!

Community: a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests,…read moreand goals. That's what I get from giving my time and efforts when volunteering at Harvesters: a sense of community. Sure, I could just go help for the feels, but it's so much more than that. For one, awareness of the need is a huge part of volunteering at any food bank or pantry. In any part of this great country, there are fellow community members who go with less, if not entirely without. Did you know that with COVID, the local need is up more than 40%? No? Me neither. The need is *real* and it's not going anywhere anytime soon. Harvesters rallies the community, bringing together volunteer forces from groups like churches, local companies, or other like-minded organizations. Harvesters combines those volunteers with donated foodstuffs and churns out amazing programs like the BackSnack initiative for school children or boxes of food for seniors. Marissa, the community engagement manager, guided us through some safety tips before we hit the packing line, and we were all in sync, moving towards that common goal. Whether you volunteer your time, donate food, or provide financial resources, Harvesters gives us all that important sense of belonging and understanding. Communities grow strong when we pull together during times of great need, and those communities flourish because of our common effort.

The care provided to these doggos is almost magical! I highly recommend making the trip to this place because it's well worth it! They have dogs of all breeds, ages and temperaments. Please support this 100% Non profit Animal Rescue! Fair warning however, the adoption coordinator Tricia Nolan Soulon and her customer service are absolutely unprofessional and childish. Tricia deserves only 1 star, for the soul reason she cares about the dogs. She does not care about providing you with accurate information. She cares about finding homes for dogs as fast as possible. She is not the person you want to work with to find the right match for you. There are many other workers who can help you and who are much more professional. I went to spend a couple of hours with a dog for a "date" and she basically conned me into taking him immediately, because she could tell I really liked him, and promised me that I would be able to train him and that she would help me if I needed it. Every time I reached out for help on the website or the Facebook she deleted my statements and comments and would not let anyone give me advice. She banned me from making any communications with anyone at the shelter. Over the week I fell in love with a dog who was too big and strong for me to handle. He accidentally hurt me several times and that was just his personality, not any fault of his. When I called to let her know I would be returning him, she blocked me, deleted me and was short, cold and absolutely heartless towards the situation she forced me into. I know that I knew I shouldn't take him right away and she covinced me otherwise. And I will take responsibility for being far too eager to be a dog mom. Tricia and, by extension, Always and Furever, never actually helped me in any way. Tricia Nolan Soulon is great at taking care of dogs, but when it comes to finding the perfect match and taking care of customers she has much to learn.
