Being in the industry for over 20 years, to my surprise the bartender said "let me ask the kitchen, we close in 45 minutes.!' 45 minutes to close shouldn't even be a question to ask the kitchen. Then she came out and said they were still serving and takes off. So we are looking for a place to sit and she says' you can't sit there, there are no servers.' Ok so maybe you should have sat us after you told us you were still serving 45 minutes to close. The service just progressed to get worse. The food itself was pretty good but the portions were ridiculously small. Only one side with main dish and my date ordered the duck and got literally 4 small bite size pieces of meat, $32. My halibut was also very skimpy and the Brussels sprouts were burnt, $38. Not once did the server even come back to ask how the food was or I would have had her get me a different side. I wish I would have taken a picture of the food. The food itself was good, minus burnt Brussels sprouts but it's a good thing we got an appetizer too or we would have still been hungry. The server is lucky my date left 20 because I said to leave 10 and I don't even know if that was deserved. I am in the industry and we always overtip but not in this case when it's more than obvious the server doesn't even want to be there. So all in all it was not a good experience. Overpriced for the portion of food and the service was awful.

Here's my experience: I came in on a Friday evening around…read more6:15. The restaurant was about 65% full, so it wasn't slammed. I was seated in plain sight....easily visible to all five of the young waitresses working that evening. Over the next several minutes, I watched them serve food, refill waters, and check in with other tables around me. Not once did any of them acknowledge me. No "someone will be right with you," no "we're a little behind," not even eye contact or a smile. Nothing. It was as if I was completely invisible. I gave them the benefit of the doubt...maybe they were overwhelmed or distracted. So I waited. But then, three of them gathered behind the bar to chat and regroup. They saw me sitting there and even asked each other out loud, "Has anyone helped that table?" They looked confused, shrugged it off, and went right back to their conversation. Still, no one came over. No one claimed responsibility. I didn't even get a glass of water. I sat there for nearly 10 minutes. Not a word. Not a glance. I finally got up and calmly walked out. Several nearby guests actually gave me sympathetic looks--they could see what was happening too. And here's the kicker: I had plenty of time to look through the menu, and honestly, the prices felt a bit high for what was being offered. Nothing jumped out or made me eager to order. Maybe that was because I was starting to feel dehydrated from the lack of water. For the record, I'm just an average guy, clean and respectful, fresh out of the shower with a spray of cologne. I wasn't rude, disruptive, or hard to miss. Bottom line: I felt completely dismissed and ignored. I won't be coming back. Best of luck to the team--I hope service improves for future guests

Is the bartender doing shots with the customers every time you go there? Are they completely out…read moreof or missing a key ingredient to what you would like to eat? Did the cook just scratch himself and then walk into the back and start balling up the meat for your hamburger? If you answered yes to these questions, there is a possibility that you are at Vick's Club 29. The first time I went in there, we ordered a pizza. Well, they were out of the ingredients to make a pizza, but the waitress did run in back and find a small frozen pepperoni pizza in the back. -"I can make this for you if you want." -"OK, we'll take two of them." -"We only have one." A few minutes later, she came back and said "I found this taco pizza in the freezer." Considering the first frozen pizza was a small, I would consider this one a "tiny." We were very hungry and since it was either a small pepperoni pizza and a tiny taco pizza or nothing at all, we ordered both of them. "I can only cook one at a time though. The oven is not big enough for both of them." They must only have one easy bake oven in the back. The next time we were there, the waitress was much more interested in drinking bright blue shots with the customers at the bar than seeing if we were interested in anything to eat or drink. When she finally sauntered over, I ordered a steak sandwich. There was an option to add peppers and onions to it, which would add to the price. I decided to go with all of the fixings. A half an hour later, the cook came over and dropped a plain meat sandwich in front of me. "Do you have any peppers or onions?" I asked. "No, we're out." he said as he walked away. I guess it would have been nice to know that ahead of time, or even at all. Maybe he and the waitress just thought I might not notice. Don't worry, they didn't forget to charge me extra for the peppers and onions. The people at the table next to me placed their order... but, they were out of the ingredients, so they had to guess again. There hasn't been one time we have been there where the waitress and bartender were not doing shots during their shift. Receiving some type of food within 35 minutes of ordering is considered very speedy. Yesterday, my friend spent a good part of the night puking up his hamburger. If I go back to eat there again, it will be purely to add another story to this review. Otherwise, it may just be safer to go there and observe. August 2012 Update: Well, I have been back to Vick's Club 29 quite a few times since my last review. Don't worry... I did not eat anything. Each time I have just visited, hung out, and observed... and every time I leave, I am happy that I made that decision. A few of things I have observed since my last review: The bartender serving food... with an open can of beer in her hand at all times. A different afternoon.... the bartender was fall down drunk trying to convince a guy at the bar to buy her another beer for the road. If you would like some lemon in your drink... don't worry, they have been out of lemons every time I have seen someone attempt to order one. October 2012 Update: Today I was at the 29 club. I was very hungry and quite tempted to order some food. All I had to do was observe the staff for a little while and that temptation vanished quickly. While I was there, the cook desperately needed to take a smoke break before he prepared the next order. When he was outside smoking, the bartender rang up an order, gave the man his change, and went straight back into the kitchen to prepare the order with her unwashed, bare hands. In between flipping a burger or two, she made sure to run her fingers through her hair a few times before grabbing the buns from the bag. By this time, smoke break was over for the cook. He put his phone back into his pocket and dug right into the next burger and bag of buns with his bare hands... yes he walked right by the sink without a second thought. Next order... onion rings! He grabs a bare handful of the rings... makes sure to cough on them a couple of times and throws them on a plate. Yum! PS. If you are hungry for some fries or tots, they are out of both.

There's also an extensive drink list to choose from The interior has a bar and a dining area. The dining area has out law/western style decor and is a fun vibe They offer complimentary bread and a cinnamon butter that is reminiscent of Texas Roadhouse, but I honestly think this butter is better. The odd thing is we were given the bread almost 30min into us being seated at the table The food was tasty. The chicken fried steak had the option for brown vs white gravy, and they even had colorful heirloom carrots as a side The service could have been better. We waited an hour or more to get our food. Again, the bread came out 30-40min into this wait. Our server never came out to apologize or give updates and after an hour we had to flag down another server to get a status. When we were seated every single one of the booths was empty, and we sat there and watched every single booth fill up, get their food, and leave before we got ours. 4/5 meals came out and one of our group was told "we accidentally made a chicken fried chicken instead of a chicken fried steak, and they're making it now." The rest of us awkwardly waited for 5-10min and decided we didn't want our meals to get too cold. It took at least 15min or more for him to get his meal. Also, I ordered a cocktail and when I was asked if I wanted another I said "maybe in a little bit," and then my server brought another Some tips: They do not have a happy hour menu. Apparently they used to, but they did away with it. Ask for some of their complementary bread and cinnamon butter. The loaded mash potatoes has a strange taste, so, you might want to avoid/substitue that Cheers!!
