Maybe you shouldn't wait to go to the bra shop until you're so uncomfortable in every bra you own that you want to cry. But once it gets to that point and it's an emergency cause you literally can't leave the house in any of your current bras, put on lounge bra and head to Busted! What are some reasons why you would want shop at a bra store vs going to Victoria Secret (which i would classify more as a lingerie shop) or vs picking up whatever thing you can find at Kohl's? 1. Actually getting sized and realizing, like most women, you are wearing the totally wrong size and that's why you think all bras are evil. 2. Personal service. Someone else that knows what they are doing to measure you and listen to your issues and bring you all the things then help you pick which ones work 3. Getting to try on many different styles. See above. 4. They keep a wishlist for you and your size on file so you put someone else could buy you that bra that you just couldn't pull the trigger on. 5. You can make an appointment. Seriously, I've been putting this off for so long and then finally made a same day appointment and went in. Having a commitment helped me actually go. You can walk in too but if it's busy (there are only 2 fitting rooms and 2 attendants at this location) then an appointment is going to go ahead of a walk in, I assume. What are some reasons to avoid going bra shopping? The expense is a main one for me. Years ago, I made peace with the fact I'm never going to be able to wear flimsy Victoria Secrets things and even more robust bras you can find are usually not the right size. Nope, once you go European bras, you can't go back! Now, there are cuter bras in special sizes but the price might give you a heart attack. One I tried on was $169. Before putting it on, I had to talk to myself and say, you might have to buy this infernal thing if it solves all the problems and looks good. Fortunately, the color was doing nothing for me. I dared to ask if it came in any other colors and they said they didn't have any of the other colors. This leads us to the next issue with going someplace in person--they are not going to have the stock that online shopping has. But they will order things for you if they can and that saves you the trouble of having to buy a bunch of stuff online yourself and then having to return it if it doesn't work out. Lastly, on that note, sometimes the store price is still the full MSRP but the bra might be on sale elsewhere, so there's that risk/drawback as well. Maybe it's not feasible to buy all your bras at a bra shop but, it's definitely worthwhile if you've had a recent change in proportions or are ready to burn all your bras for some other reason. read more

I believe the best milestone birthday present you can get a women is a gift certificate for a great custom-fitted bra, so I was happy to find a place to get a gift certificate. It's in a great location, bras are reasonably priced and owner, Lee and her staff are super easy to work with. Last time I was in there, Lee was telling me they have private "bra parties" available. Get your girlfriends together and have a private party after the shop closes (typically 6 - 8 pm), bring in some beverages and munchies and you're good to go! It actually sounded like a really great idea, so I booked a party. I had as many as 20 invited, about 12 were interested and available and 10 showed up (I only write that because I think that would be the norm - over invite for more fun) We were able to bring in embibements and food (bring everything you need, cups, napkins, plates, forks, ice). They had an old school stereo that we were able to play our own playlist, which worked well. One by one, each of my guests were fitted and then shown the bras, underwear and nighties that were available in their size. I think for the most part, everyone bought something, although there was no pressure. We needed the full 2 hours, mostly because some came late (altho I did think to encourage everyone to come as close to 6p as possible so I didn't have to have a stranger feeling me up with no friends around). By the time everyone got settled, etc, we didn't really get going til about 6:30pm I was really surprised to know that quite a few of my friends had never had a professional bra fitting, and were previously just buying whatever seemed to fit. They were seriously excited to find great bras at reasonable prices. Those of us with harder to find sizes had limited (but good) choices. That's the real only downside, although they are always expanding their stock, they are limited in the more difficult sizes - but were able to order whatever was needed. The new medispa and Peacock Room stayed open for us til 7p, but by the time we all did our greetings and got set up, we really were happiest just staying together so didn't have the chance to take advantage of their generosity. So grateful to have this type of shop inside the city! Every customer gets a record kept of pieces purchased, so next visit it's easy to find similar items if they were well loved. Big sales happen fairly regularly, sizing is done correctly and is a painless process. I love the welcoming range of sizes and styles, and being able to rock more unique pieces that can't be found at the department store. Having a personal shopper of sorts is nice too, the staff has always been helpful in letting me stay undressed in a fitting room while they find me options, or helping me with a piece that's a little tough. This shop was referred to me, and since the Lane Bryant and Avenue bras seem to be crap quality now, I went to check this out. The shop is in a older building with other shops - don't look for an independent store. There is street parking available - I was able to park on the street for $1. I had a small wait for an associate, and just walked around the store browsing. When initially talking with the associate (and explaining what I was looking for), she brought me a few selections that I was happy with. I wanted to start off with something basic and see how happy I am with the product before buying more. One wireless bra and one sports bra costs $108. I'll post an update later. So let me start off by saying that the reason to am giving Busted 2 stars is the lack of concern with my issue when I called an spoke with the owner. On 7/15/17 I went to Busted to get properly fitted and to purchase a strapless bra that I needed for my 20 year HS reunion gala. The store is very cute and the sales associates were friendly. It reminded me of the stores I used to go when I was younger to get slips to wear for church. There aren't many of these stores anymore so I was super excited. A young lady named Stacey did my fitting. The fitting went well my only concern is they assist you with putting the bras on and in normal life I won't have assistance so I need to be able to try them on as I normally would at home. All the bras that she gave me to try fit decent but the cups weren't padded. I like padding for heavy duty nipple coverage not for "push up". Stacey then went an pulled the strapless bras for me to try. The one I chose was by Elomi and it was $76. I told her I really wanted padded but she stated they didn't have any so I went with this one I told her the biggest problems I have with strapless is that they seem to fold over and don't provide much support. She said I would be fine. Of course I wore this bra and within minutes of putting it on and walking around it felt useless. I was so disappointed. On 7/17/17 I called because I wanted to speak with Lee the owner because all of her reviews were awesome. I thought I just had a one off experience. Lee stated that they do not force anyone to purchase anything and that even if I come back there is no guarantee I would see her. I was very disappointed that she didn't seem to care that I was unhappy with the fit of my bra. Even chain lingerie stores allow you to do an exchange. Here's the short review: You spend just as much (maybe a little more) than you would spend on a good bra at a fancy department store. Do yourself a favor and get properly sized and buy quality bras from a small local business! She carries sizes AAA-N cup, bands sized 26 - 56, in all different flavors. There's something for pretty much everyone. Here's the long one: A few weeks ago another bra ran me through with it's underwire. It was painful and a reminder that my current supply were aging. I haven't been sized in probably 5+ years. My bras didn't fit and it showed. I was pinched on the sides and my straps would slip and fall down to my shoulders all the time. The elastic had seen its last days. It was time. Lee, the owner, was kind as I went through the process of being sized. To say I'm modest about my body is probably an understatement. I think I was bright red the entire time. The process requires your top to be off. Like. All the way. You're being measured. It's the nature of the beast. Lee made the experience respectful and not at all awkward. You feel very vulnerable, so I'm thankful for that. She brought in several different styles as she explained the ins and outs of my outs, as it were. It was very helpful and I didn't feel pressured or anxious after awhile, which is pretty remarkable for me. Our bodies are shameful and we should hide them at all costs!!! Okay, I know that isn't true, but this is the place I come from. I left with two bras and plans to buy more. Bras are an investment, but there's a ton of infrastructure that's involved and quality items are expensive. As a consumer we have three choices: a. do no research, buy something cheap, replace it when it's short lifespan runs out b. do research yourself before buying something to make sure it's quality c. trusting an expert. Searching online for options was overwhelming and filled with conflicting information. Lee and her company know bras, plain and simple. After being underwhelmed with options elsewhere, I decided to give this place a try. They insisted on measuring me first and while I didn't think this was necessary, I let them fit me. My fitting experience at Busted has been the best because of the comprehensive approach. It's not just about taking measurements. It's also about the style of bra for your shape and needs. Some might think it would be expensive because it's an independent specialty shop, but honestly, you're likely to pay more for lower quality if you go elsewhere. If you go into an average store that sells bras, you'd think everyone was a 34-38 band size, but not so. After learning how actual bra sizing works (Hint: measure your rib cage, under your bust. That's your band size. Now measure your bust, and subtract your band size measurement from it. Each inch is a cup size. Honestly! And, cup sizes increase proportionally, so a 'D' cup on a 30 band is the same size cup as an 'A' on a 36 band) I decided to check out Busted, which hadn't been open very long at the time. Since then, I've gone back several times, by myself and with friends, and purchased several bras. I wholeheartedly recommend this store. The shop is sort of in a weird location, and it's not exactly the prettiest in the world, but it carries a good selection of bras in real sizes (band sizes from 26-56, and cup sizes from AAA to N (yes, really!)), from well-known brands like Freya, Panache, Ewa Michalak, etc., as well as from less well-known brands like the Little Bra Company (LOVE.. if only they went up to a D cup! :( ) and Nubian Skin. The staff is always warm and welcoming, on top of being helpful and obviously familiar with the merchandise. My first time at Busted was kind of a miss, as I ended up with a bra that wasn't quite perfect for me, but since then I've learned more about what type of bras fit my body best, and I've been very happy with Busted. Lee, the owner, is fantastic. She's spent a ton of time with me in fittings and bra talk trying to figure out the best brands for me. Busted doesn't always have bras that work for me (30D with a shallow cup, and not itchy), but they're happy to order bras for you, or call you when new merchandise comes in, and I will keep going back. I went to Busted because I felt that a famous mall-located chain of lingerie stores just wasn't doing me justice. Thank goodness a store like Busted exists! I love to shop local, and especially in Detroit. Shopping at Busted lets me do both! The location was tricky to track down, but a kind security guard on the first floor pointed me in the right direction. I was greeted warmly by Lee when I walked in, and she asked what brought me there. I explained that I wanted to start with a fitting to figure out me true size (explaining my past bra-shopping experiences) and she set me up in one go the fitting rooms. She made me feel very comfortable as she measured me and told me the size she determined, which was very different from what I had believed from prior "fittings" in the mall. I gained two cup sizes! I felt then that my past shopping experiences where more about fitting as many women into as few sizes as possible, to be profitable. I struggled to find my size at big retailers as I am petite and small-chested; I felt like a bra-shopping anomaly. Lee changed that. She brought in several different styles in my new size and gave advice in fitting them correctly. I felt great in the bras she handed to me! The prices are higher than I am used to paying, but I know I am paying for real quality when I shop at Busted. And style! Lee has some beautiful and adorable bras in stock! I ended up going rather conservative as upcoming job interviews prompted this shopping trip. Though Lee had brought in several very colorful pieces that I said I had to decline, she said that I knew what I was looking for and that was great. "Besides, I will always have cute bras!" she consoled me. And I knew then I'd be back one day to pick on up! I haven't made my second trip back yet, but I know I will. I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit and am proud to be a Busted customer. Now that I landed one of those jobs I interviewed for, I have a paycheck to spend on SOMETHING. Bought a bra and was told with receipt and tag on the item I could return it. I bought the bra to wear with a specific dress, you could see the bra through the dress. Went in to make the return and was told they only exchange. I told the cashier about my previous encounter and she made an exception. Great! Except I never received a refund. After leaving a negative review on Facebook the owner contacted me accusing me of being malicious and let me know she contacted her lawyer, over $44? Ok lol. Needless to say I filed a dispute with my bank and will never shop at busted again. Instead of making things right, even after I showed the owner my credit statement with no record of a return from busted she still accused me of ruining their reputation. Not happy with Busted at all! I went there on a friend's recommendation about 2 months ago. I got fitted, but the bra I chose had to be ordered. I was given a price of $68, and when I attempted to pay, I was told they wouldn't need any deposit or payment until I came to pick it up, and they would call me when it came in. Well, nearly 2 months passed, and no phone call. I called, left voicemail, email, but no response. I was going to just forget it, but I wanted the bra. I called again and finally reached someone who told me that the manufacturer was always backlogged, blah, blah, blah, but she would call to see what the problem was. Two days later I get a call that the bra was in. When I got to the store and was ready to complete my purchase, the price was $10 more than what was told to me when I originally ordered the bra. Busted - unacceptable! I make it a point to patronize new businesses, and while I know my $$$ will not make or break Busted in Detroit, I won't be shopping there any time soon. read more

I should have been waaaayy less comfortable being naked from the waist up and having a stranger measure me, but the fitters at Busted are awesome and all business. No huge pressure to buy anything I wasn't comfortable with. Styles range from plain-Jane easy to super sexy. They have such a range of sizes that my plus-size wife and I can finally buy our bras in the same store! They validate parking for the Park Shelton ramp - wish I'd known. After plenty of misadventures in online bra shopping, I decided to give Busted in Detroit a try. I assumed that they would not have my uncommon size available in such a small store, since no chain stores carry it. I wish I had dropped in sooner! I was shocked that they had a ton of options in my size. They even had several different styles of nursing bras, from more comfort-oriented ones to super cute fancy ones. The staff was very nice and I was made to feel comfortable during the fitting (despite being very physically uncomfortable at 9 months pregnant!). I am so glad that this store exists. Pros: Nice store with lingery that is not available anywhere else. They carry two lines of bras from Poland that are very flattering. Pretty as well as practical. Good prices. Well trained fitters. Cons: Wide range of sizes but not many styles in all sizes and they can't easily order them in your size. For this reason the sales lady kept telling me to get them in a smaller size and use extenders to make them fit or with another style buy a larger ( quite larger) cup. Her insistance was off putting but I must say that she knew the products, and otherwise was very helpful. I would have tried more things if it had not been for this. I am an unusual size and it's impossible for me to shop at most bra stores (like Victoria's Secret). I came in hoping to find "cute" bras in my size and I left with three gorgeous bras that fit like a dream! The selection here is great and goes all the way from a 30A to a 56K, with cup sizes up to an N. They have bras that fit people like me, with large cup size but a small ribcage. The very best thing a women can do for herself is to have a great custom-fitted bra! You have to make the girls happy! I have been to many of the popular lingerie stores and department stores for bras. None ever fit me like Busted in Detroit! None. Ever. I attended a private party for one of my friends. It was so much fun! While eating snacks, each girl was taken one by one to be fitted. Everyone had a fabulous time and got a personal fitting. This wasn't just your typical fitting where if the store doesn't stock your exact size, they give you something "close" just to make the sale. Close only works with horseshoes and hand grenades ladies, not bras. The size I was fitted for at Busted was a size I was NEVER told I was in at any other store. Finally, after years, I was correctly fitted! I'm also sensitive to polyester materials and metal and they found a cotton bra with no underwire that is the most comfortable bra I have ever worn. It was a dream come true! And the price was even less than I paid at VS, Soma or dept stores! The customer service here is unsurpassed! Lee Padgett and her staff really know their bras. I was so impressed and loved the bra I got so much, after a couple weeks of trying it out and wearing the same bra every day because I loved it so much, I ordered two more. I had a great time laughing with these ladies today. I brought my daughter in to be fitted for a bra. She was really nervous and really just wanted to go home. Lee made the experience not only comfortable but funny! She explained to my daughter, in detail the elements of a well fitting bra. Without my suggesting, she focused on her desire for my daughter's selections to be first and foremost supportive. The store is quite surprising. The initial impression is a quaint little shop, within the lobby of a classic Midtown building. The selection seems adequate but nothing over the top. Then, they open a door and over 3,000 additional bras! They carry just about every size under the Sun! If you've been looking for Nubian Skin, they've got it.
