OMG try this restaurant. If you live in Hastings or St Leonards or visiting the area ... highly…read morerecommend this incredibly tasty, hidden treasure of a local restaurant reasonably priced for an outstanding dinner, anytime of the week. Will be top of my list of local recommendations, take aways and home catering (have added their number to my mobile, was so fantastic). The depth of flavour of their lovingly-prepared jerk chicken, goat curry and fish curry (unlike you have ever tasted before - seriously moreish!) will seriously surprise newcomers. The sypmphony of flavours of the fish with chilli and scotch bonnet pepper sauce was SoooOOooo unique, asked to buy a batch of the sauce to take home!!! They really ought to bottle that sauce! 5 stars as a new local restaurant with the courage to try a new concept. Keep up the outstanding efforts!!! It was highly recommended to us through word of mouth. Absolutely worth a meal here!!!! It will be unlike anything you have experienced for quite some time. African passion on a plate.

Amazing little gem of a restaurant. The decor is really…read morewarm, friendly and has a 'homely' feel. The staff really went out of their way to please and the food!!! Wow! You must try their jollof rice and jerk chicken! What really surprised us was the value for money. Because they accept 'Taste Card' (50% off) the 'Bill Shock' you normally get when a restaurant slaps the bill on the table was more like, 'I can't in good conscience pay that little!' Highly recommend .. A must before you leave Hastings!

We are not spoilt for choice when it comes to Caribbean food in Brighton, so when Cummin Up opened…read moreon the London round I couldn't wait to try it. Its clearly a family business and a number of the younger staff members are obviously still being trained, but given this place has only been open a couple of weeks I can forgive them this. Plus, the laid back Caribbean lifestyle and quick service don't really go hand in hand, no probs I can chill out and wait for my food! The menu is huge and they offer catering and take out as well. However, a couple of the dishes we wanted to try weren't available. It would perhaps be worthwhile for them to reduce the menu and concentrate on doing a few dishes well. I went for the traditional curried goat with rice and beans, plus a beef patty on the side. Not because I really needed it, the portions were huge, I just wanted to try it! The patty was good but the pastry was a bit soft as it was warmed up in the microwave before it was given to me. The curried goat was tasty, not overly spicy, but good flavours. The quality of the meat was generally good but there were a few fatty lumps which were a bit off-putting. The overall standard of the food was good but it didn't blow me away. They also have a good selection of unusual drinks and juices, puddings, plus regularly changing specials. There's reggae music on the stereo, Caribbean memorabilia for sale and a happy vibe here. Albeit the strange name I quite like this place. I'm confident that the food and service will only improve with time and I'll definitely be back to try the jerk chicken and other interesting items on the menu.

Want to try authentic Caribbean food with amazing taste, plus great service and delivery? Cummin Up…read moreis NOT the place. Brighton is a bit dry when it comes to Caribbean cuisine, so when Cummin Up opened I was looking forward to giving it a go. Being of partial Caribbean descent, it's always nice to try food that's a part of your culture, and I love me some Jerk Chicken so I ordered some with a portion of rice and peas for myself and Scott. Now I know my people are somewhat laid back and easy going (see my reviews of any afro hairdresser) so I was expecting to wait at least an hour. Anything before that would be classed as super quick! It was closer to two hours by the time the food came and my god what a disappointment it was. I've eaten jerk chicken a lot in my life. What we had was NOT jerk. The chicken was stringy, covered in a dark tangy sauce. It was vile and didn't taste fresh at all, which leads me to the rice and peas..it had definitely not been cooked that day. It tasted musty and as if it had been refrigerated for a couple of days and then reheated. We ended up throwing it away because it was THAT bad. It's a shame because there aren't really many Caribbean joints in town and Cummin Up is probably the one that everyone has heard of. I'd hate for people to eat there and think that's what Caribbean food tastes like. I'll stick to cooking it myself for now.
