Jay Peas offers fast food Caribbean style to take away but it has a real home-cooked atmosphere and flavour. The menu is small but has all the usual suspects one expects to see from jerk chicken to curry goat and plantain. Perhaps a little surprisingly, you can also get spaghetti bolognese and sweet & sour chicken too! They have some amazing deals like £2.99 for lunch but I stopped here to pick up a snack before jumping on the Tube one evening. I got a jerk chicken quarter. It was full of spice and flavour - I certainly did a lot of finger licking! They're open til 10pm, giving an alternative to the nearby KFC.

I was looking at the menu on the shop window when I was waved into the shop to have a look at the food with no obligation. The friendliness of the proprieters was great - how often have people walked away when they've been afraid of getting a hard sell? I was only after a little snack and they offer a pattie and punch for £2 - perfect. I asked what their favourite pattie was and I bought what I thought they said was 'cheesy beef' but proved on later eating to be chilli beef! The wonderfully flavoured beef had a lot of zing and was encased in a slightly chewy pastry. It's a perfect size for a snack. They also sell chicken and salt fish patties. They also offer more substantial Caribbean meals - jerk chicken, curry goat, oxtail, chicken wings in honey and rotis with various fillings. I was intrigued by their range of home made special Jamaican sauces sitting on the side counter. I didn't have any punch today but there is an intriguing line up of drinks - Guinness punch, pineapple punch and freshly made ginger beer to name a few. I wish them luck with this endeavour and I shall be spending more money in this place in the future
