On their time off they work driving for Lyft and one day that I had to take a Lyft, Maximo was my driver and mentioned the food truck, and gave me a copy of their menu that he had just picked up from the print shop. So today, since we are in Hispanic Heritage Month, I decided to go visit this food truck and try it out since the food in the color brochure looked very good and inviting. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And La Cocina de Goyita Food Truck in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. Food Trucks are not easy to find. Not all of them are in the same place all the time. Sometimes they move around and advertise where they're going to be in certain dates. Oftentimes they don't have a website of their own for us to find their scheduled days and hours of operation or phone number where we can inquire where they can be reached. But La Cocina de Goyita has it's act together. It uses the address and is listed on the web as being located in the Fresh Asian Super Market off Williamson Road. This address can also be found in their Yelp site. The Food Truck is modern and huge size compared to others. It has plenty of parking and one can also park in the parking lot of a strip mall located next to it. If you're in the mood to eat outdoors, it has three picnic tables covered with a tarp to protect from the sun or rain. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and its food, which by the way it specializes in Authentic Honduran Cuisine. On one side of the Food Truck it has its menu with large pictures of the items and their phone number in large print, for I noticed while I was there that they had many customers that called in their order and then came to pick it up. Interestingly enough, I noticed that none of their menus had the prices listed on them. One had to ask before they ordered and if you paid with credit card they will tell you that you would be charged a dollar extra. When I arrived Jose was there and gave me a friendly greeting in the middle of cooking and preparing many phone orders which he had received for pick up. I ordered an Horchata to drink and a Chuleta dish (Pork Chop) as my main entrée. Then I went to eat it at one of the picnic tables. The pork chop was big and thick, well seasoned, and with only a small bone. It was served with rice, refried beans, Honduran cheese, and house salad. To my surprise he also included a large slice of avocado cut in half and a cooked jalapeño pepper. Everything was very good and the price was $16 including the extra dollar for paying with credit card. By the time I paid, Goyita had arrived and I got to meet her. I highly recommend this place for the variety and quality of their food, seasoned and cooked to perfection, and with very friendly service.

The owners of this family-owned and family-run business are a very warm, friendly, and welcoming Argentinian couple who bring the best of genuine Argentina cuisine to our area. Their menu includes autentic Argentinian Empanadas, which are known around the world as one of the best empanadas. Steak, Chicken, and Chorizo sandwiches. And Argentinian Grill with some of the best cuts of meat around. With plenty of parking space around their food truck for convenient parking, they also plan to have picnic tables with umbrellas for customers who would like to dine on the premises. Today, on its Grand Opening, I went to be one of the first ones to witness the opening of this new establishment and wish them well. Since I already had a previous commitment for dinner, I ordered two ground beef empanadas which are my favorites. They were one of the best empanadas that I have ever had. A special dough stuffed with seasoned ground beef and onions, peppers, olives, and pieces of boiled eggs. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality of their food. While I was there, another customer came by who ordered a Milanesa Steak Sandwich with fries. This is a breaded steak which is then fried. It looked delicious when it was served and I'm looking forward to having one of these next time I come around, with the option of one fried egg on top of the steak. I highly recommend this place for their fresh ingredients and homemade flavor of their food, generous portions, reasonable prices, and warm, friendly service in a comfortable environment.

I tried finding more information about this Cuban Food Truck to no avail. Then today, as I was shopping in one of my favorites supermarkets, I hear someone talking in Spanish about how she had dined at El Guajiro last week and how good and genuine the Cuban food was. I didn't want to miss this opportunity to find out more about this food truck, so I asked her in Spanish if she had the address of where it finally was anchored. She gives it to me and tells me that their roast pork sandwich is amazing. That same day I decided to drive in my pearl white Lexus over there, and finally discover the mystery of this new food truck that came out nowhere and had seemed to have impressed all those who have been able to find it and sample its genuine Cuban cuisine. After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And El Guajiro Cuban Food Truck in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. As I was nearing the address that my GPS was guiding me to, I clearly began to see the modern, wide, and colorful Cuban Food Truck parked on the side of Envios Express / Envios a Cuba, a business that specializes in Shipments to Cuba. The food truck was one of the largest and nicest food trucks that I had ever seen. One could clearly tell it was a new food truck, not one of those refurbished old ones. Next to the food truck, the owners had set-up a square gazebo dining room, for customers to be able to relax and shelter themselves from the sun and rain as they enjoyed a delicious, genuine Cuban cuisine. The name "El Guajiro" is a Cuban Spanish term for a rural peasant, country folk. It refers to people living in the countryside, with a hardworking lifestyle and deeply rooted to Cuban national Identity and patriotism. This Cuban immigrants,family-owned business, was established to keep the Cuban cuisine alive among the Cuban-American community in exile, and to share it with other members of our community, so they too can appreciate their unique and delicious cuisine. By this time the owner and his wife came out to greet me with open arms and native Cuban hospitality. They talked about how they conceived and are in the process of developing this business and it's menu. How the recipes did not come out of a book, but out of their heritage of their families home kitchens. I ordered a Batido de Mamey to drink, a fruit that is highly popular in Cuba and the Caribbean, and my second favorite fruit after the mango. To eat I ordered the Ropa Vieja, with rice and beans, yuca, and salad. Ropa vieja is one of my favorites Cuban dishes. Authentic Cuban Ropa Vieja requires flank or skirt steak, shredded and simmered in a savory tomato-based sauce. Key ingredients include green and red bell peppers, garlic, cumin, oregano, bay leaves, tomato paste/sauce, beef broth, dry cooking wine, and often Spanish olives or capers. Each family or restaurant tailors this recipe to their own style and taste. With excellent background music I enjoy, the wind blowing, and seated at a table under the gazebo, I highly enjoyed this food. Everything was seasoned and cooked just right and was very authentic home-style Cuban cuisine. At the end of my meal I was offered a Cafecito Cubano (a highly sweetened shot of espresso served in a demitasse), and had a sliced of in-house made Flan. Simply, delicious. Inside the gazebo dining room, they also had a Domino's table, one of the favorite pastimes of Cubans, to attract customers to come and play. I've eaten at many Food Trucks, but none of them, as clean, with comfortable ambiance, inspiring background music, and amazing food, as this one. I highly recommend this place and am proud of having had the privilege of being the first one to review it.

Yet after stopping, I found a lovely Honduran couple which owned this family-owned business with an interesting menu with such desirable items that would not only make you want to stay for dinner but also make you want to come back for more in the near future. Located off Williamson Road in the Northwest area of Roanoke, Virginia, this taqueria food truck not only makes great Mexican tacos, like its name implies, but other delicious items as well, such as Quesadillas, Burritos, Tortas, Carne Asada, Pollo con Tajadas, and such delightful Specials as Yuca con Chicharron, Tacos Dorados, and the Typical Honduran Dinner. After parking my pearl white Lexus in their small but very convenient parking lot, I headed towards the food truck which also had a closed-in patio with four picnic tables with large red umbrellas so customers could stay and dine there if they wished. Everything was so clean and organized. The food truck had its name together with their phone number in large print written on it. A small sign with its Hours of Operation, and a nice size sidewalk sign with its menu clearly displayed. When I arrived, Leticia, the wife and co-owner of the food truck opened its window and greeted me with a warm welcome. I returned the welcome by immediately speaking Spanish and making her comfortable by speaking her language. We engaged in small talk like it's tradition and she introduced me to her husband, cook and co-owner of the food truck. Then she took my order. I ordered the Yuca con Chicharron (Yuca with Pork Rinds). These are different than the pork rings found in the menus of American restaurants. Here the pork rinds also contained the pork meat as well. And the Yuca served with it came fried. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the food and the food truck with its anchored location. This was going to be an appetizer but the serving was so generous that it was a main entrée by itself. I also ordered some tacos with carnitas and with Chorizo. After all if this was a taqueria how could I leave without having tried some of their tacos. The wife together with a relative prepared the Yuca con Chicharron on one side of the interior of the food truck while the husband cooked the meat for the tacos on the grill located on the other side. To drink I ordered an Horchata, a very popular cold sweetened non-alcoholic beverage. This sweet, creamy, and spiced drink is made from white rice, water, cinnamon, often blended with milk, almonds, or vanilla. This particular one was the Honduran version which contained some other ingredients that made it so special and unique. When the food was ready and after paying with my credit card, I took it to one of the picnic tables which the husband had opened the large, red, umbrella, and started by eating the Yuca con Chicharron. It was so yummy and plentiful. It filled me up. I dranked the Horchata and took the tacos homand orgaze with me to eat at night. I highly recommend this food truck for its clean and organized arrangement, amazing variety of menu items, delicious food, and excellent customer service by a very friendly and hospitable couple and co-owners.

No luxurious building with expensive decorations and furniture. Just a clean, cozy, and comfortable little building with a few tables and chairs, a counter where orders are taken and paid for, and a small kitchen behind where orders are prepared and taken out to your table by one of the servers. When I arrived to the restaurant that is well known in the area for the $1 tacos on Tuesdays, I was impressed by how small it was. The main room where orders are taken and paid for and with a few tables and chairs for customers to seat down and eat, is souranded by large windows where light can come in as well as people can look in from the street and see a very clean restaurant full of people eating and others ordering items to go. There is a second smaller seating area, this one with walls and smaller windows. As I entered the door, there were several signs both on the wall and standing on the floor. There was an enlarged colorful menu on the wall, and a floor sign with the days of operation and special daily menus. Behind the counter a friendly employee greeted me and took my order. To drink I ordered a Mango juice, as an appetizer I ordered 2 Longaniza tacos, as the main course I ordered a steak Milanesa (breaded steak), and for dessert a Pastel de Tres Leches. I paid with a credit card and then went and sat at a table next to a wall with an outlet where I could charge my cellphone that was running low in power. While I was there several people came to pick up orders to go; a couple of groups of workers, and some families as well. After all it was a Friday evening. When my food was ready one of the servers brought it to me. All the items looked and tasted delicious. The Steak Milanesa was a bit thin but tasted good. There was a small table up front with all kinds of sauces to put on your food. This is a comfortable little place where you can enjoy genuine Mexican food, alone or with family and friends. Nothing gourmet, just good home cooking.

Hidden in a tiny spot off Williamson Road in Roanoke Virginia is the Pupuseria La Chalateca. And the Pupuseria La Chalateca in Roanoke, Virginia, is the perfect example. The Spanish word La Chalateca refers to a woman from Chalatenango, a department orbits in El Salvador. This Food Truck is owner and operated by a really nice woman from that part of El Salvador, and thus its name. Her sister also works with her here. Located in a small area next to La Oficina Latina, one can hardly notice the Food Truck there. But I followed it's address on my GPS and it lead me to its location with a small three car parking lot, but with plenty of areas to park in its surroundings. As soon as I arrived I walked to the Food Truck which had the menu painted on the truck itself with painted photos of each item. As I was reviewing the menu a very friendly lady opened the window of the Food Truck and gave me a very warm greeting and welcome. I immediately talked to her in Spanish and she was relieved that I spoke her language. After some talk I ended up ordering Pupusas with Chicharron (pork) and Queso (cheese). And to drink I ordered an Horchata. (A typical drink of the area). A pupusa from El Salvador is the nation's beloved national dish: a thick, hand-formed corn tortilla filled with various ingredients like cheese, beans, or pork, then cooked on a griddle until browned. Traditionally served with a tangy cabbage slaw called "curtido" and a mild tomato salsa. In front of the Food Truck was a wooden picnic table with an umbrella to protect customers from the sun. So there was where I ate my food as soon as it was done. The pupusas were the best that I have ever tasted. They were hot, moist and tasty. Who would ever have imagined that food this good would have come out of this food truck! While I was eating several To Go customers ordered and took took their food to go. So obviously the place had already a good clientele. The owner told me that she is looking for a brick and motor place to open a restaurant there. I told her with this excellent cooking I'm sure she'll do well there. In conclusion, I highly recommend this Salvadorian cuisine. The owner/chef, not only is very friendly and has a wonderful personality, but cooks amazingly good. I myself am looking forward to returning real soon to try out her other items from the menu.
