Tip: If you are getting the naked burrito bowl as takeout, beware of sauces leaking out. The plastic bag with the containers had sauce leakage.
My rating is 3.5 stars. I'm rounding up. The naked burrito bowls were yummy and huge. Both containers leaked sauce.
On Saturday, I came to dine at Kamen for a late lunch. I hadn't been there since it was Kenzo Ramen. Yep, we are talking at least a decade.
I lucked out and got a parking spot next to Kamen, in front of this Burrito Boyz. I had never been to any Burrito Boyz location.
After lunch, I walked two doors down to get a drink at Chatime. I decided to check out Uber Eats. I had hoped that there was a deal for me at this Burrito Boyz.
There was a BOGO deal on naked burrito bowls. Yay!
I specified the following items in each bowl:
- Refried beans
- Rice
- Tex-Mex cheese
- Tomatoes
- Bell peppers
- Whole black beans
- Red onions
- Corn
- Vegan burrito sauce
- Salsa
- No hot sauce
- No protein.
It was weird for me to say no to protein. I had just eaten a massive amount of pork katsu for lunch. I was good to omit protein for dinner.
I sipped my drink at Chatime while I waited for my order to be ready. It was my first time sitting at any Chatime. I loved it and my drink.
When my order was ready, I left Chatime and walked over to this eatery next door. It was clean, but small.
A woman came over to say hi. I let her know that I had an Uber Eats order. She had my food in a plastic bag and handed it over to me. I thanked her and left.
It was cool parked right in front of this eatery. I placed my food down on the passenger floor mat. I thought that it would keep my food safe. Nope.
When I got home to eat, I opened the bag and there was burrito sauce everywhere. Great.
I cleaned everything up. I put one of the containers in the fridge and had the other one for dinner.
The ingredients were fresh. There was a lot of food. Everything was yummy. I was a happy camper and was so full, even without specifying a protein.
My only complaint is how this bowl was put together. Pretty much all ingredients were on the left side, including the vegan burrito sauce (so good!) and salsa. The right side had shredded lettuce, and some beans and corn that had shifted a bit.
My guess is that the person who put together this bowl was likely thinking that the lettuce should remain dry. However, it was so lopsided that the sauce had no place to go but out of the container.
Maybe I should have specified having the sauce separate from the bowl. If the burrito sauce were in a small container, it would have stopped the leakage.
At least the person making the bowls was consisted. Both bowls had a heavier left side and leaked burrito sauce.
Maybe I should have got a burrito for less sauce leakage. Large and small burritos were also BOGO on Uber Eats. Next time!
I had the second bowl the following day. I had made Japanese chicken curry and put that into my bowl. It worked nicely. Don't knock it until you try it when you need more protein.
I'm glad that I stopped by. I will need to remember to get the sauce on the side next time.
