Where do I begin to write this review for Burnt Glassworks? Would it be the variety of items you can make? Or would it be the phenomenal customer support from Zach and Andy? Or would it be the multiple collections of colors you can select from? Or finally would it be for the items you can buy in their mini showroom? This is the first time I had ever done something like this at the suggestion of my cousin who had also never done it before after reading reviews. She said this is what we're doing. I have to say this was probably one of the funnest events I have done in years! Being able to create something of beauty and not having talent doesn't matter because of the instructions received from Andy. Speaking of Andy, I have to say he is a phenomenal teacher! He explains things in great detail yet in such a way that he is not talking over you or above you but rather with you. He explains by example and by words. He was very patient through the process understanding had never done something like this, and allowed me to express creativity along the way. When it came to the end, describing what the opening of the boss would look like he gave me various options. I cannot commend Andy enough for his outstanding skill at working with others! Now let's talk about Zach who worked the desk and also assisted Andy. He greeted us with a smile, was very friendly and explained to us what the process was going to be. With a fantastic sense of humor and a willingness to be customer centered Zach truly made a difference today as he was the first one we worked with and the last one. From beginning to end my cousin and I had the most fantastic service! I went to make a glass blow snowman. My friend chose it as has birthday activity. I've never done glass blowing before and I'm not good at any type of visual art. However, the staff here is amazing and they were so pleasant and helpful! Each person goes one at a time, for safety, and they talk you through each step of the peace as and are hand one with you through each step. It was so fun and my snowman looks amazing . You were able to pick any 2 colors from a great variety of colors and patterns - one for the body of the snowman and one for the hat. They even had already made examples so you could see some that were traditional (white snow body and red hat) and some that used different color pairs. The 4 of us were done within 45 minutes or so - each taking just over 10 minutes to make. They also have a showroom of already made items in display. I will definitely be back. read more

I really enjoyed my time here at Burnt Glassworks. I had called in earlier to inquire about all the different workshops and classes and for beginners, they had recommended either paperweights, stars, or flowers. I went ahead and chose the flower workshop. Scheduling was a breeze and when I showed up for my appointment, I got to choose from a variety of colors and patterns that would ultimately make up my piece. I was surprised how quick the workshop went-- I had so much fun that I didn't realize 25 minutes had gone by like that. The instructor was really clear with his instructions and it was an overall supportive, fun environment. I don't have a picture of the end product but I will post an update once I pick up the glasswork after it has had time to cool. I would go again maybe to make another flower (might want to make a bouquet as an ongoing project!) or try making a vase or cup. Great idea for a quick date idea. My wife and I decided to make Christmas ornaments. They have a showcase full of color options and there is a selection of textures to pick from. Once you know what you are making, you go back to where the furnaces are. Their staff walks you through the whole process as you heat, blow, and cut your glass. I'm sad we have to come back to pick up the end results, but transporting glass that just came out of a 2000 degree furnace seems like a bad idea. I am looking forward to later this week when we can pick up our creations. read more

This was an amazing activity. I requested this as my birthday gift from my family and enjoyed everything about it. There are several options for classes on their website. I picked the starfish It is in the last row of an wearhouse park took us a minute to find as we didn't see a sign near the street. Parking spots are not really marked; however, we didn't have any issues parking as we went on Saturday and none of the other businesses were open. After we checked in we got to choose our colors. There was a great selection of individual and pre-mixed colors. We were provided safety glasses and given a short safety chat. Colton was leading our session and he was great! He was very attentive and directed us every step of the way. He made sure we understood the steps, we were safe, and cautioned us as we sculpted our masterpieces. Once we were done forming and shaping our art they were place in a kiln to set. They were labeled so we could pick them up at a later date. I was able to pick up our starfish up the following day within the designated hours. They have a board listing the times for pickup. read more

It was our 25th Anniversary this weekend, so we did a little fun couple's activity: Glass sculpting with the great crew at @burntglassworks. Our project was a heart-shaped glass paperweight. Our instructor made things easy for us and we each took a turn at various steps. We also each picked a color and mixed them together so that there's a piece of both of us intertwined in one heart. And now they offer studio workshops at a local brewery!!! Yup- plan your next night out to King Maker and make yourself something really cool! They offer various workshops and they change with the seasons. Beer steins, whiskey glass, wine glasses, glass ball ornaments, starfish paperweight, glass snowmen and more! This was my first time at the mobile workshop and it looks like they plan to make this a secondary location!!! How wonderful. I absolutely LOVE when local brewers mix with local artists to offer classes and workshops! And King Maker has plenty of featured art throughout their taproom and building! Adam was our Master Glassworker tonight to guide us through making not one- but two items each!!! Vanessa T met me there and made a starfish and a bud vase and I made a glass ball and a whiskey glass. He indulged my wanting something different and we worked through the process together. Grinning ear to ear, both Vanessa and I enjoyed every minute! I had to chuckle when turning the glass in the furnace when Adam said to me how relaxed I was- that most people are nervous and freaking out. I have made numerous glass blowing items over the years at a few different places and hope to take the full blown course someday soon. I crave all things artistic and love working with tools. Oh my goodness, this was so much fun! Earlier in the year I was harassed by family to think up birthday gift ideas. Since I don't have space to store any more stuff, I was looking up experience ideas and stumbled across Burnt Glassworks. Cue a birthday gift certificate to use. I scheduled Hubs and I for a couples class a few days after our anniversary to make stemless wine glasses. Upon arrival we were given options to choose from - stemless wine glasses, rocks glasses, or highball glasses. We choose to make rocks glasses and keep them the same color because who doesn't love schmoopy matching couple stuff. We started by choosing our glass color - there is a wide variety to choose from. We got our instructions and started making our glasses. The instructor handles all of the things where an amateur could injure themselves like getting a glob of molten glass that is 2200 degrees onto the end of a metal pole. The instructions were clear and you can participate as much as is safe in making your glass piece. The owners were awesome guys, fun to chat with, and really made our experience a lot of fun. Once we finished our glasses, they had to rest for 14 hours in what is essentially an oven that slowly reduces the temperature to allow them to cool without cracking. I picked up our glasses the next day and they are so freaking pretty! We've been telling everyone to come here for a fun family night or unique date night. Glassblowing is way better than dinner and a movie! read more

My Mom fell in love with the orange pumpkins and wanted them as favors for her 85th birthday party. Jess was wonderful and made sure all 15 arrived in time for the party. My amazingly awesome wife knows how much I love trying new and different things so for our anniversary she got us a spot at one of Burnt Glassworks pop up events in my favorite part of town, Riverside. 10/10 recommend taking the opportunity to do this any chance you get! I am already looking into other events they are putting on and can't wait to create my next item!! They start by giving you a safety brief, I'm sure their lawyers make them do that, and I get it because basically everything is hot and or sharp or both!! Which, make it much more fun for me! They have a list of items you get to make and a wall of colorful glass fragments you get to add into your work of art! I had wanted to try a class here after seeing friends go to it, and I received a gift certificate for my birthday to make glass snowmen. My mom and I came on New Year's Eve day, and there was only one group ahead of us with an instructor. We were able to check in quickly with waivers, and we picked two colors from the glass counter at the front desk. Melissa was very helpful and kind in helping us start out before we were sent to our instructor, Colton, to begin the glass making. For two people in the snowmen class, it takes about 20-30 minutes from start to finish. Colton was awesome on showing us the steps to take to make the snowmen, from putting the glass in the fire, shaping them, blowing air into the glass to fill them up, and putting the final touch of the hat on top of the body. You are working with 2500° kilns, so safety glasses and closed toed shoes are required!! It was so much fun and interactive, and we had a blast doing it. We are stoked to try more classes in the future and have ideas for gifts! read more

The Burnt Glassworks is a hidden gem that should be enjoyed by us all for a great time. This is my 2nd time here, my first time I made glass pumpkins and this time I made a glass snowman. Such a unique experience with a well treasured art piece to take home. The Burnt Glassworks is hidden in a warehouse behind many other warehouses off of Phillips and University. GPS will get you there without any problems, just know, it is in the back of the buildings. The staff is SO friendly, helpful (picking colors, willing to mix colors, give suggestions, and assist with blowing glass), and talented! Just the mere idea that YOU are blowing glass with the help of these experts, puts you at ease and allows you to enjoy the craftsmanship that YOU are making! Fun is not even a strong enough word for the activity you are involved with. They take their time instructing you, working hand in hand, making sure that you are safe, and doing the glass blowing process correctly. I am truly amazed at the end product and at how quickly you can make a glass item that looks like you bought it right from Murano Italy! We blew glass pumpkins for Halloween and we formed glass chicks for Easter. So much fun picking out your glass colors and designs. They perfectly balance helping enough to guide the participants and keep everyone safe, and allowing everyone to have their own hands on experience. Got a gift card for my boyfriend for his birthday, wanted to find something unique and different to do and he really enjoyed this. The guys were really cool and laid back. They explained everything and made it easy to follow. Now with the hot ovens don't except that you are going to be in there doing everything yourself, because if you did your item probably wouldn't come out very good, ha-ha, but you do participate in most of it and the guys make it really fun.
