I cannot recommend this opticians. Firstly, they have a policy of not giving out your Pupil…read moreDistance (PD). The only possible reason for withholding this information is to make it impossible for you to get your eyes tested with them, and then go and buy your glasses online. Considering that the 'free' eye tests Scottish opticians provide are actually paid for by the NHS, this seems pretty mean spirited. Also, before I was permitted to have an actual eye test, I was made to complete a questionnaire which asked me questions about, among other things, my mental health. Why this is relevant to my vision I'm not sure, but it felt pretty intrusive. The manners of both the receptionist and the optician (Sam) were brusque and unfriendly. The receptionist even asked me if I was telling the truth about why I wanted my eyes tested (I said I just wanted a check-up). The optician took my glasses away to check the prescription and got a grimy white mark on them which she didn't bother to remove, and then acted personally affronted when I asked for my PD. Incidentally, while browsing through their selection of frames I found a pair extremely similar to some I'd found online. They were £100, not including lenses. Online, they were £25 including lenses and three free coatings.

I enjoyed a very pleasant experience here today.Very friendly and professional team of ladies who…read morehelped me through the various tests and selecting my new glasses. Thanks again for your help.

They have watercolours, prints, oil pastel pieces, little metal figures that you see in quirky gift shops and I also noticed Marilyn Monroe and John Wayne prints if that's something that you're looking for. When I popped in I noticed the shop assistant talking to other customers about a purchase they had made, it's nice to see that they're knowledgeable about the products that they sell and it's not just a case of wham, bam, thankyou mam when they take your money then you leave as in some other shops. I guess this added to the friendly atmosphere that the shop had. I often feel intimidated in art shops as if the staff are wondering if I know my Picasso from my Klimt but I didn't feel like that here. If you're looking for artworks to spruce up your house or as a gift for someone then they have some really nice pieces here.

The stuff in here is safe, welcoming, and suits the suburban location. You won't find anything too controversial, just nice pictures to stick above the fireplace. All the usual suspects are here, from famous artists' prints to that picture of the Glasgow tenement in the snow, and a quite comical sketch of John Wayne. There's also a few more unusual pieces for the chin strokers amongst us, but it all fits together nicely in a way that both Joe Public and art lovers can appreciate.

With a pretty damn decent collection of gear with good pricing, clean products and a limited selection of dead man's clothes, its a definitely worth a gander. And while it lacks the bookish charm of an Oxfam, the selection of books is large and comprehensive. I have picked up everything from academic text books to blockbusters here, as well as some good graphic novels. Apart from the second hand clobber, they also stock new gifts, usually involving lavender. There is a running sale of incense, at half the usual price, ornaments made specially for Cancer Research and a range of storage boxes for jewelry or other small items. And while I can't judge their quality, they do have a glass cabinet of jewelry items that are worth a look if you do want something that might well be vintage.
