I never heard of such a requirement for a "warranty". I asked them for other choices, such as replacing the compressor only and forget the warranty, or install a second-hand compressor. I also asked if the $115 diagnostic charge would be applied as a credit on the final bill. I don't think that was well received. The attendant said she would have to ask the mechanic and get back to me. She never called me back. I guess they figured I was not going to be a pushover customer, so they decided to run with my $115. Meanwhile I got a dealer quote to replace the compressor with an EOM part and warranty for $1300. A mechanic friend of mine advised that I go with the dealer, since private shops often use overpriced after market parts anyway. I never found an auto repair shop that charges more than a dealer, but this is it. THESE PEOPLE ARE CROOKS.
