The atmosphere is really on point here - with module 1 and module 2 classes at perfect times for beginners (see schedule here: www.eastvanbjj.com/schedule/) and competitor/advanced classes in abundance throughout the week(days) and on weekends. This is a very fun yet competitive environment and is one of the closest experiences I've in comparison to training in Brazil or California; the gym continues to improve daily with some of the biggest names (like Fabio Gurgel, Tarsis Humphreys, etc.) making trips to run seminars and top coaches from local gyms dropping by to say hi and train. Skill level ranges from beginners with no prior experience to high level competitors at all belt levels and all age groups. A very positive, welcoming atmosphere makes it very easy to train here. I've been training here since 2014 and the gym has been consistently improving each year in some way or another. For more advanced students, it should be an easy choice, Thomas Lisboa is one of the best BJJ coaches out there and you will also have a multitude of accomplished competitors to train with.

Hi, I started at Budo through the groupon. A 1 hour Muay…read moreThai session was the gnarliest workout ever for me. I then got the 6-weeks unlimited trial, where you can try Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kyokushin karate. If you want to shape up, this is the best deal. You can go everyday and get a round for your money ! Instructors are super friendly and passioned, they can teach you basics for a great work out or make you do some sparring if you look for some challenge. The atmosphere is super friendly, people are great there. Just take the groupon and see for yourself !

It is extremely sweaty and hot in the gym if you don't mind. I went for Monday class, there is not really any structure on the fundamental teaching (although the class description says it is adult fundamental Muay Thai class). The fitness class is good, it is a circuit and plus the heat, you will sweat like a bucket, excellent warm up for the Muay Thai class. I have done Muay Thai before so I know the fundamentals but it might be confusing for someone who has never done it before. The students and the instructors are super nice and friendly. Overall it is very bang for the buck you paid for the groupon. I would go again just because I like the challenges.

The quality of instruction was…read moreexcellent, the ratio of coaches to kids was more than I expected, Franco looks intimidating but he's just a teddy bear at heart who has a gift working with young children. He is able to command their respect while being kind, a knack for maintaining their attention, and has a keen intuitive sense of what kids' need -- when to encourage them, comfort them and when to back off. He knows every single child's name and has an amazing ability to run a fairly large class like a pro. He makes it fun by warming the kids up with "animal name" exercises such as crab. His dojo colleagues clearly have a lot of admiration for him and they seem like a tightknit family that work well together. These are just my first impressions. We look forward to enrolling. One item i wasnt fond of: The small studio layout has a column/partial wall in the middle of the space, which is obviously a structural detail that cannot be removed. I guess it has pros and cons. Pro is that it creates two areas when you want to work in a more separate space; con is that it creates two areas when you want to train in an an open space. This is a minor point, however, and certainly not a dealbreaker.

I didn't really feel comfortable, I was a slow learner because I haven't stepped into a gym nothing in over 2/3 years. They don't really follow up with you either. Or give you a remind notice to make sure you will show up. I kinda felt like it was.. like if u come, u come. If u don't, u don't. Which I find unprofessional because even my lash tech will give me a text or reminder few days prior to remind me about my appointment. So I didn't really feel welcomed at this dojo.

If you're looking to learn joint locks, this is one of the best places to go in the area. Michael Seamark Kyoshi is one of the most proficient joint lock masters I've ever met in any style of Jujutsu. That being said, do not walk in there expecting to master this art in a few months. Joint locks are still a fine motor skill, and it takes a lot of training to be able to use them practically in self defense situations. Seamark Kyoshi does, however, have efficient teaching methods for imparting this knowledge and a friendly, welcoming training atmosphere. He also offers training in law enforcement oriented techniques, being an Advanced Security Training instructor with years of experience as a security professional. In addition to having some of the most painful joint locking techniques I've ever experienced, Seamark Kyoshi is also a skilled shiatsu practitioner, with training in the art a requirement at the higher levels of the style of KoKoDo Jujutsu. Under his skilled hands I have personally received treatment which accelerated the healing of a muscle pull I had. I have never tried the yoga at this school, taught by Diane Seamark, but I have heard good things about it.
