It must have been a bad week for Xcel fitness with me. Having just moved to the area i visited…read morethree Gyms. The first day i went to Xcel and a very pleasant woman showed me around and outlined the various plans. I liked the variety of machines and cardio equipment . While the locker room has a strange layout it didn't matter as i seldom use it. In her spiel and on the web site they pitch their Personal Training ability and how they guide you. So when i signed up i specifically asked how PT works. Well, actually they don't have PT themselves but instead they have independent contractors who work for them. In order to get PT i have to call one of their trainers and organize it myself. This seemed very odd but the woman then handed me two cards and suggested that i call them. Okay, i thought it odd but i took the cards. I then left and called both trainers and left messages with them...twice. 4 days later i still hadn't heard back from either of them. So, i went back to the gym in the morning. The gym was essentially empty so i asked the guy at the front desk if he could walk me through a simple circuit using the machines. He told me sure and that he would be right with me. I wanted to get started so i said i would start on Cardio and when he had a chance just come grab me....50 minutes later i was still on the treadmill and i had watched this guy walk by a few times and chat with friends and wipe down a few machines. Twice i waved at him and he gave me the "be there in a second wave." Finally i finished my cardio and went back to the desk and now he was gone. So I left. 3 days later and still no word from the trainers I went back in and talked to the front desk yet again. I explained the situation and pointed out that no trainer had called me back . The woman at the front desk asked who i called and i literally pulled the two cards sitting on the desk and showed her. She said looking at one card "Oh he doesn't work here anymore"...huh? them why is his card on the desk...That seemed to baffle her as .much as it did me. The other trainer "she hadn't seen for awhile" Huh? She said there was a trainer hanging out there she could call. To be honest I had had it . I explained that on my last trip I had tried to get help for 50 minutes and was ignored. She seemed uninterested. Finally, i decided i would just cancel my membership. Of course , having been a member for a week, and having no trainer call me and be given a card from a guy who didn't work there at all anymore and having been shuffled off by the front desk guy on the last trip she still would have to charge me 75 dollars to cancel. Seriously? To be honest i would have paid 100 to get out of this disorganized mess. Clearly, misinformation and false promises meant little to these folks so it seemed an expensive yet valuable lesson. I ended up joining Spa Athletic where the owner took me on a tour and had a personal trainer call me to set up an appointment an hour after joining. Like i said maybe it was just a bad few days at Xcel but i find it hard to believe that i'm the only one who experienced this. Again, its a nice workout space but thats all i could see going for it after my experience .

I have always been a yo-yo dieter and every few years would take up running for a few months at a time but when it got too hot or too cold I would quit, hating the monotony of the dreadmill. I joined many gyms but always felt super intimidated and out of place and unsure what to do while there, wondering if I was wasting my time and energy by not knowing how to optimize my workouts. Classes made me a nervous wreck, always different faces and no one was there to do anything but get their workout done and leave. I weighed 200lbs, sat on my butt all day at the computer, had major hypothyroid issues, and was desperate to do something but didn't know what to do. I even looked into a personal trainer but the cost was so high and I knew I needed almost daily assistance, not just once or twice a week. For months I had heard my neighbors talk about Burn and encourage me to go and I finally decided to give it a shot. My first thought upon entering was how everyone seemed to know each other, and I was glad I had my girls there so I could cling onto them like a barnacle. My second thought erased the first because SO many women came up to me to say hi and welcome me, simply because they didn't recognize me. Even the head trainer, Ryne, made sure to introduce himself. The thing about Burn is the women there aren't just nice, they are FRIENDLY and it makes all the difference. Everyone there genuinely wants to see everyone else succeed. There is no judgement, only encouragement, pretty much everyone is a regular to their class time so you get to know so many wonderful women. I will not lie that first class I had to keep telling myself "This is the only time it has to be your first day, this is the only time it has to be this hard, if you keep coming it will get easier and you will be so glad you did." I struggled. I was beside a 70 year old woman who was doing so much better than me. We did bicycle abs and I could only lift one leg at a time and after three of them I laid there panting, sure I was going to blackout. We did bear crawls to halfway across the floor and back and were supposed to do five laps. I did one. But I just kept repeating "If you just keep coming you will be glad you did". Two weeks later I did three full laps of bear crawls, two months later bicycle abs were among my favorite things to do. It never gets easier, because we scale everything to our fitness levels(do it faster, more weights added, etc), but I have gotten so much stronger, it helps to know everyone there is on the struggle bus with me, and the sense of accomplishment afterwards is euphoric. Burn is a community, it's a sisterhood, it is everything I have been searching for my entire life. Ryne and Becky are amazing trainers, they genuinely care about the success of each and every one of you. The workouts are always different(I never get bored), always a challenge and designed to give you maximum results. Come to Burn, tell them Lyla sent ya, and I promise you, you will not regret it. 1 year in I have: Lost: 38lbs 10 sizes Gained: So many friends So much confidence So much strength A lifestyle I know I can keep up

I got on my husbands gym membership at the YMCA, I quit. I did 9 Round, I quit.... okay I think you get the point. I quit and there's nothing wrong with that, because those workouts, set ups, places, whatever just didn't work for me. It didn't work for my schedule, my lifestyle, etc. That is until I joined Burn Boot Camp. I've never been a consistent member of anything longer than maybe a month or two. I'll join something and take weeks or months off and my dude will complain and keep asking when I'm going back. I go back sporadically, knowing that this ain't gonna last. I'm not here to sell this place, but I am here to say why this works for me and probably many other women who go. This is my first check in but I've been going since the end of March. I did a trial and then just in time another trial came along and I jumped on that. So it was nice to get a feel of what I would be getting myself into if I actual paid for a membership. Ryne is literally the fitness coach I needed. Idon'twanna pay a ton of money for a trainer and I like being around other women who hi five you and encourage you to keep going and push yourself along with Ryne challenging you as well.. Working out here is challenging (you need that), flexible for my schedule (most days I go at 5 AM, sometimes at 8 AM, sometimes at 6:30 PM). If you have kids and you're a member, they have childcare at certain times. Ryne does personal check ups with you at the camp (after a workout, before, whatever) to make sure you're on track with your goals. PLUS! Sometimes the music be on point. Every now and then the music is a bit corny but luckily there are those around me, including Ryne pumping me up so I can ignore that. It doesn't get any better than this... for me. I would urge anyone to keep searching for what works for you. If you're a serial quitter... maybe you're just bored with where you are, you need some personal attention, maybe you need a little more encouragement or whatever you're doing isn't working for you anymore... give this place a try.

"Let me start off by saying ATA Karate Denver is my first experience with any formal martial arts…read moreschool for my children and I find them to be a 1 1/2 star school thus far. So how do I come to this decision with nothing to compare it to? How can I be so arrogant as to what should be the expectation? One of my children started back in March of this year and the teachers have been patient, encouraging and joyful to be around. However, one of my issues is the turn over of the teachers on the staff. Through the course of 7 months I have personally seen 6 different teachers come through the school and it's aggravating and disappointing for my children and for myself. How does one build a rapport and trusting relationship when teachers come and go? ATA Karate Denver also has issues with equipment orders and getting the correct size for children. When my child started back in March, he was given the wrong size headgear from the start and we had to wait about 2 months before we purchased our own headgear for him. We took our son out of the school because of other obligations and since we were under agreement the school let our daughter take his place. For my daughter who started 2 months ago we're currently still waiting for a chest protector. I find these incidents totally unacceptable and not the proper way to operate a school when safety is an issue. We've also dealt with less than ethical contractual agreement issues with respect to outright lying. When we decided to enroll our son into the school we spoke with some type of manager. He played well in getting my son excited about Karate and wanting to become a black belt. When it came time to discuss cost of tuition and length of contract time things became muddy and dishonest. We were told that the only option available was a 3 year agreement and what the tuition would be. It sounded off but what did we know? So again we asked him was a 3 year agreement the only option available and we were told yes, so reluctantly we signed up. After about a month we found out we were lied to because we talked to other people signing up with less than 3 year agreement and we brought it up to management. At that point we're told that there are agreements less than 3 years and the main office set us up with a satisfactory agreement that we could be comfortable with. So there you have it, that's our experience. Many issues to deal with and our contract will be up soon. Can I say this has been a learning experience? Yes. Can I say we will repeat it? No!, ATA Karate of Denver needs to become more honest, organized and consistent and have instructors stay for more than a couple of weeks. This has been extremely frustrating and I only speak for my family but I assure you that other parents feel the same. Could I recommend this school to you in good faith and honesty? No, look elsewhere and if you have any recommendations please let me know."

My children are learning more respect through the classes and I have seen advancement in their confidence as they take pride in themselves when they "suit up" each week. It is a commitment on the parents part, as well. When I was approached by who seemed to be a recruiter, I was impressed with the assertiveness and self confidence of this young individual. Although I did not sign up immediately, there was no problem in communicating with the management to further understand the program. ATA Karate helps promote current, positive lifestyles for children and also assists in potential future endeavors for participants of all ages. Keep up the great work!
